Kilean state TV- 12/16- Army Day.
Kilean's falcon-and-septre crest is shown onscreen and martial music plays. State TV announcers tell of a "breakings story of great national importance"
The grainy image is shot from a low-grade camera on a fixed mount. The dull, cold grey of Kilean's western desert stretches as far as the eye can see. There are a few pre-fab towers and small outbuildings. Several sounding rockets go off, creating a line of vertial paralell smoke trails.
Suddenly, the screen goes white, and the image slowly returns to the screen, the camera is shaking as dust is thrown up all around it. The massive fireball rises slowly over the wasteland, distorting and boiling as it cools, stretching into a terrifying mushroom shape.
"...a twenty six kiloton uranium gun type device in the western desert, marking a new achivement for the Kilean armed forces, and further assuring our right to self-defence and national safety." The talking heads drone on, happily confident.
They slickly cut to another, far higher quality camera, this one on a tower in Capitol Square. Goose-stepping troops wearing air force blue and the golden shoulder tabs of ground security troops branch march past a reviewing stand. Kilean's president, flanked by the army general staff, wave to the troops proceeding the real stars of this parade.
There are four trucks, rolling slowly through the square. They are massive vehicles, used as tank transporters most of the time, but now they carry something different. On their massive trailor beds rest sleek white cylinders embazoned with the Kilean national flag.
"in celebration of national army day, the president has chosen today, december 16th, to show the full might of our armed forces to the world. These missiles and their warheads- both totally kilean-made- show that our glorious armed forces will harness all the power of science and kilean industry to insure the safety of our people"
The voice-over was clearly a military press officer. The camera stopped its panning shot of the parade and cut to a press room where the man previously doing voice over stood before a large diagram of the missiles.
"the test carried out today in the western desert was a bold statement that Kilean is now and shall continue to be a nation that will be able to defend itself with any and all means possible."
The breifer leans back, confident. "on behalf of the Kilean armed forces, I wish you a plesant Army day. that is all."
As state TV goes back to regular coverage, the president smiles at the missiles rolling past him. Kilean has shown its hand. Now its time to wait and see.
<OOC: Kilean has for some time had a nuclear weapons program. the bomb tested was a 26kt uranium gun bomb using uranium from kileans extensive mining industry, refined in nuclear reactors that supply most of kileans electricity. The missiles are SM-01 "riverbed" ICBM's. They can carry one warhead with a yield of 80 kilotons. They are liquid-fueled, and have a CEP of approx. 800 meters and a range of 1,600 kilometers. They are adapted from Kileans domestic space booster, the KS-2.
As ICBM's they are crude first-generation models, and kilean has only 20 in inventory. The kilean nuclear arsenal consists of approx. 60 weapons, all uranium gun type, first-generation atomic weapons, except for the plutonium bombs in the ICBM's. The entire program has been secret until now, when kilean decided to reveal its arsenal to the region.>
