Human Clone created; what to do?

A band of rogue geneticists who call themselves "The Geneses" have recently announced that they have successfully cloned a human being. The actual cloning took place about 10 years ago. The clone is a male child named Frank Mondevarious. He is normal in almost every way, except inasmuch as he is abnormally tall; about 5'4" in height. Frank is currently living with an adoptive family, which is also unaware that he is a clone.

Aaronak law has banned the practice of human cloning except by government-licenced researchers. The law provides for huge fines and moderate jail time for the leaders of The Geneses, but we have no clue as to what to do with the boy Mondevarious.

Therefore, we apply to the world community for help in this matter. Currently, Mondevarious does not know that he is a clone. Furthermore, we do not know who the boy is a clone of. What should we do with this child?

He's still a human and should not be discriminated against.

Do this, stop further cloning and let him live so you can see how cloning affects the human as he grows up. I suspect he will age much faster and die early (Dolly the Sheep aged faster than normal).

Dictators will use it to clone themselves. Reminds me of an episode on Red Dwarf where a whole society was based on Rimmer clones with Rimmer in prison!

I say: Start experimentating with it and start researching what you would be able to do in the medical sector, don't start cloning people! This could be the answer to many diseases.

What do we do when the clones become self aware ?

It makes me remember the movie Gattaca (great movie, supreme!), and that's why I am opposed cloning human beings. But that doesn't mean cloning is bad.

Isn't that a contradiction? How can we experiment with cloning if we shouldn't clone people?

We know cloning itself is bad (at least for now); that's why its illegal. But our problem is what to do with the clone himself? Should we tell him he's a clone? Should we study him? Should we put him in a lab and run tests on him?

Huh? Define "self aware."

Why not just let him live like a part of normal society

I'd say, don't try to make them look to special, try to give them a normal education and from the minut it would go wrong (believe me, tha press will destroy gis life), psychological support is the only option.

If the boy is healthy and happy, I see no problem. He can come and live in Klimburger if he wants.

I think you should tell him he's a clone.

If you have 50 people stuck on an very small island, and they are isolated for 500 years inbreeding will happen. In the end, all descendants will have the same genetic flaws and it cannot be bred out because all on the island are related.

With cloning, it is worse. The same genetic problems with the cloned persons bloodlines is continued as you clone the person further.

Cloning can create a second option to donors, and therefore could it be the cure to leukemia (I don't know how it's written in English) and many other diseases. The Idea is that you start clining cells (sorry, I can't give you a proper explanation in English, so you will have to start with this).

The Scarecrows accept that this boy, is still by all approximation, human, therefore he is, under national law, a child. He needs parents, a loving home, and people who don't care about age, colour or creed.

We would gladly accept Frank. Cityship Hiigara is currently maneuvering on a docking course with her sister A'tuin, although it will gladly send an entourage to pick up Frank. Say the word.

I would never clone a human  But you can clone organs .. unless you would have the same problem as with humans..
13-12-2003, 15:46
I think u should let him live as a normal part of society. He is a human being just like the rest of us, and like the rest of us he has a soul. To deny him the rights of the rest of the populace would be like denying a twin rights. All a clone is is like an identical twin of somebody. They are still two diffrent people with diffrent likes and dislikes. Also don't tell him he's a clone because the media would destroy him and it might have a psycological affect if he knows he was a replica of somebody.

We're not deporting Frank, or arresting him, or anything like that. But the chance to study a real human clone is, some of us think, too good to pass up.

If you wish to study this boy as he grows without outside influence may I suggest a "Truman Show" type solution.Create a small closed community to study him as he grows.Do not do as they did in the Film and just mold him into staying but build multiple smaller communities as a form of Holidays so his suspicion will be elliviated.
African Commonwealth

The African Commonwealth is very interested in this cloned human male - If Aaronakia would share the results of however they wish to study him, the Commonwealth will open it's recreational and military industries to the nation of Aaronakia.

We are considering hiring a detective agency to follow and record him full time. The problem with that is that he may eventually figure out that he's being watched. Another idea is to put a radio tag in him, like they do in whales and other endangered animals. The problem with that is, is this an invasion of his privacy?
Daniamania

The soveriegn nation of Daniamania would like to put forth its views on this subject.

Although we support genetic researching for medical purposes, we believe that going so far as to create a clone of a human being is to create much potential for danger and unrest. Rebel elements could grow their own armies, terrorists could create suicide clones, and much more mayhem could result.
Because of this, Daniamania hereby declares that any attempt to send this abomination into our nation will result in a conventional and/or a nuclear response.
You have been warned.

Let people clone if they want to.
There is nothing wrong with it for scientific purposes.
16-12-2003, 20:30
We support this tremendous discovery and feel that the boy should be integrated wit society....but be examined bi-weekly to see his status. Just make up a story he has a disease to throw the press off his tail. I feel that he should be brought into the sharade though because he'll have to be told sooner or later....preferadly later so the results are not biased. Alteronia will share it's results of spacial investigation in exchange for this information. Also, we could be discussed into the trade of goods and services.

If this Mondevarious child is the clone of someone successful, say, a doctor for instance, do not attempt to turn this child into a doctor, because it is not merely genes which determine a person's abilities and skills, but, also social development at certain finite periods. It this child does not have the same developments (which he will not), there is no reason to assume that he too would equal his predicessor.

The nation of exetonia supports cloning and the discovery of this boy we do however, join in the condemming of the group that has done this. Exetonia has the same laws and until recently was on the verge of cloning the first perfectly healthy human organ. We wre about to publish our results when an accident happened towards the end of our recent civil war. We would suggest the following:

1: You should tell the boy of his origins and then, keep a creful eye on his physchological development.
2:Check for rapid ageing and problems caused
3:make sure thew child is accepted as a normal human being and given the same upbringing. This, will be difficult but, in essence this child is a normal human being just 'born' in a different manner.

We would like to send scientists with our research to meet you and this marvelous wonder of human science no matter how illegal the process was, it is a scientific wonder and one that should be shared with the world.
