We apologize for the interruption of the regularly scheduled program to bring you this special news bulletin. This Morning Scientists from The Protectorate of Komanthor and The Armed Republic of Indra Prime
announced they have started researching Ion Powerplants & Engines
for any possible Space & Earth Based applications. Stay Tuned to this news station for breaking news regarding this new research.

I hate to be a spoilsport, but an "ion powerplant" makes no sense.
An ion is a charged atom, that means an atom that has either less ore more electrons than it has protons in its core. In the first case, you have to put in energy to eject an electron from the atom, in the second case you'll have to get the electron from somewhere, through a process that will consume energy. Thus you can't use ions as a powersource.
An "ion drive" may propel a spaceship but has to get electrical power from a solar panel, for example. This is already in use to hold satellites in their orbit. You may expect a low acceleration, but high top speed compared to a "reactive drive" (a rocket engine that burns two chemicals like hydrogen and oxygen). If you invent a "micro-fusion reactor" or something like that, you might propel a hovercraft with an ion drive, with the restrictions mentioned.

OOC: As a matter of fact there is a design for an ion engine that is not being considered, one that we are implementing. It utilizes ions that exist in normal space and in water in multiple forms. Basically what this does is takes the abundant forms of ions that exist out there and converts them into a viable powersource. (and just FYI this is theoretically possible in the real world. I have a degree in Engineering Physics working on one in astrophysics. so believe me, it is possible.)

Sterwin has a terain that you may consider as being sutible for a research department operating the more dangerous (read: highly explosive) experiments. The majority of Sterwin is desert based, and if you were to conduct any experiments in Sterwin, you would of course be able to bring in any military hardware you believe necessary to secure the safety of the research.

Sterwin would be willing to contribute personel, equipment, and finances to this project. If you have any specific requirements, then, please TG us with whatever you need.
