At approximately 12:43am on the 12th of December this year a large explosion was reported on an island off the south coast of mainland Celairdor.

The island lovingly named "The Isle of the Wolves", after the nation's national animal, has in recent months been used as a prisoner of war camp for prisoners from the conflicts with The Horrible Psychotic, however all communications with the prison camp were lost.

Reports are somewhat sketchy at present and the government is warning that all civilians should remain clear of the island and where possible move northern. Some civilians are reported to have heard an explosion, or seen a flash in the windows, however due to the time of the event noone, at least noone that has yet come forward, saw what happened.

Rumors are coming from the consipracy theorists that this is a result of a failed experiment to create the nations first nuclear fission reactor. These theorys are based upon the fact that Celairdor appears to have a large uranium mining industry, however does not in fact export any. the Conspiracy nuts are claiming that the uranium was being stockpiled on the Isle of Wolves where Celairdorian scientists were attempting to process the impure uranium into a usable form.

The government is yet to make a formal comment as to what occured other than to deny the conspiracy theories, however send out their condolences to the families of the 20,000 (estimated) prisoners that were held on the island, and the 25,000 (estimated) soldiers that were guarding them.

The government has issued a press release regarding the blast, within which it says, :

"As rumors have guessed, the blast at the Isle of Wolves on December 12th was in fact a nuclear blast. Our metereologists assure us that the fallout is being directed South-east, and that homes in the south of Celairdor mainland are still inhabitable.

Our scientists have also stated that it is almost certain that there are no survivors.

The government has decided to sell off all remaning uranium stockpiles in order to fund research into other sources of power. The Commonwealth currently has in the region of 1,500 tonnes of Uranium in a classifed location, and will accept bids from other members of the United Nations only."

Conspiracy theorists are rumored to be in shock about how right they were.

Your citizens are still not safe. The radio-active material from the explosion will be absorbed by local livestock and crops, as well as the lighter radio-active material being absorbed into the rainfall.

The government of Celairdor thanks you for your concern, and indeed already knows about such concerns. It is however hoping that the citizens will not find this out for another few weeks.

Our weathermen (ooc : cant spell the -ologists name for them) have predicted that there is only a low chance of rain within the next month, December fortunately being the start of the commonwealths warmer season, and all scientists that are a part of the program are of course under the official secrets act. Unfortunately due to the level of education it is not likely to be long before the facts are known by all.

The facts about the weather predictions and such considerations as food supplies in the case of an emergency were taken into consideration by the relevant departments, in case such a disaster happened. It will unfortunately not lessen the effect this dramatic loss of life and huge amount of pollution upon the populace of Celairdor, but it will hopefully help the commonwealth make it through this hard time.

Celairdor itself is a collection of 5 islands. The Isle of Wolves is the smallest of these, and lies some 50 miles south of the Celairdor Mainland, the largest. all other islands lie on the eastern and north-eastern coast of Celairdor and so the distance to the Isle of Wolves is the reason why it was chosen for the tests.

The Republic of Ozymandias IV Civil Defense is willing to ship 250,000 KI pills to protect Celairdorian citizens from the fallout.

The commonwealth would like to thank you for your aid, and requests that it be dropped in the airbase in the North-West of Celairdor, "Nightingale Airbase".

The KI pills shall be distributed to the areas where they will most likely be needed.

In other news, a convoy of 20 government vehicles has begun travelling to the south of the region. The vehicles are equipped with shielding from alpha and beta emmissions, and are transporting scientists and other associated professionals who will assess the damages done to the mainland.

You should advise people not to eat the local fish until levels of radioactive material in the local fish fall to safe levels.

The Great Nation of the Soviet Union will donate 20 million dollars and 2,000 Radioactive clean up crew to help restore the situation.

A single C-130 transport with an escort of six F-15 E Strike Eagles will deliver the KI pills within the hour.

On the advice of the Holy Latin Empire the health department of Celairdor has issued a press release.

"People of Celairdor, no local fish should be eaten from the southern seas until further notice. This is inrelation to the risk of radioactive materials entering the food chain which would lead to health risks if consumed."

Kamrad Stalin, the nation of Celairdor will recieve the 2000-strong cleanup crew, however respectfully declines the monetary donation. The government has planned for this eventuality and believes that it has enough in the way of funding to deal with such an operation.
