Maropian Coast

Somewhere in the East China Sea, near the Sakishima islands
A single lifeboat bobbed up and down where there had once been a grand fleet that was to bring the end of the war. General von Strauswitz, commanding the fleet, was still unsure what exactly had hit them. The rebels, trying to erase the government's bases, were now almost lost. Without their fleet, it would be unlikely that they could recover. All they could do now was defend the only asset they had: Bonstock itself, and its population of over a billion souls.
Dawn broke, and the men in the lifeboat watched as a giant submarine, clearly of the Los Angelas class, broke the surface, jutting out on top of the waves. The lifeboat rowed over towards it, and it unfurled the colors of the United Socialist States of Bonstock, the Revolutionary government established after the October revolution.
Two men, shivering in the water, bobbing up and down, looked to the sub, and swam over, fighting for their very lives as they swam. They were hoisted up into the sub, the sole survivors of a fleet crew of over 140,000. Debris and bodies still floated everywhere.
The sub then went under the surface, turned, and disappeared under the waves.

The Revolutionary Council was disheartened. How could their fleet be just gone? What had happened? Who was to blame? Could the war still be won?
Ragged and dispeareted, General von Strauswitz, commander of the Rebel Forces, got up to the stand.
"Comrades, I bring you saddening news. Our brave comrades of the 1st Amphibious Fleet have been murdered by our enemies. A hundred thousand young Bonstocknians, comrades in arms, are now at the bottom of the ocean. Everyone asks, 'who did this infamy? Who commited this murder?' Well, I know. It was everyone in Bonstock who supports the government on Maropian Coast. Anyone here who gives a simple hint of liking the old regime. Blood, my comrades, must be repayed with blood.
"We must destroy all in our country, who to this day are undermining our war effort, strangling us from within. Any group who supports the old regime will be destroyed for their murderous acts. We will repay our enemies many fold.
"As of now, our secret police organizations will round up anyone suspected of supporting the old regime. They will be dealt with extensively. We will not allow this infamy to continue. This is the last massacre of our comrades.
"I seek your assistance in finding these murderous traitors. They could be anyone. Your neighbor. Your father. Your son. Your brother. You must look everywhere for traitors. If you find them, do not treat them well, just because you have feelings for them. They are the enemy, and if you dont get them they will get you. And you will ask 'why? Why betray me, when I refused to betray you?' These traitors have no concious, no feelings. They must be silenced before they murder again.
"So join us in this, comrades. It is the only way we can defeat our enemies. Only by fully uniting can we ever hope to defeat them. You must act now, or they will kill you first."
The council aplauded, and voted unanimously to promote the General to Field Marshal, the first time any Bonstocknian had been given such a title. They voted to give him power over all of Bonstock so as to help victory. Von Strauswitz knew his was his day. He rejoiced at his new power. And he made plans for the new order. All of Bonstock would now suffer the pangs of murder, war, and death. There was no turning back now.
