The Development of Superior Naval Technology in the USSCR

The Magneto/Hydrodynamic Propulsion System:

The Magneto/Hydrodynamic Propulsion System, or Caterpillar, consists of two tunnels running the length of a submarine hull, a series of impellors in the sides of the tunnels, and a cryogenic plant. Using the Caterpillar Drive renders a submarine totally silent, as the system doesn't draw on the main reactor as much as normal drives do. The tunnels themselves are insulated to reduce cavitation within them, as well as any vibration that might give away the ship's position to another submarine. Even the occasional rumble heard has been dealt with by means of revamping the Cryogenic Plant and further insulation incorporated into the tunnels.

The 941AX is the first of the Type-II Typhoon-class, or Typhoon-II, and is somewhat larger than normal ships of this class, in order to incorporate six more missiles, the tunnels, impellors, and the cryogenic plant. Plans gathered from the Soviet Union were used to build these SSBNs.

(note: This is the layout of the 941AX save for the impellor drive doors.)

The 941 AX also has a backup diesel-electric plant that is both small enough to fit in the hull, and large enough to keep her batteries sufficiently charged so that the vessel can still operate almost normally at periscope depth. The 941AX design has had a partial refit, and instead of carrying 26 ICBMs, she now carries 20, with the forwardmost six tubes converted to launch Guided Cruise Missiles, making the SSBN an even more potent weapon in battle.

The front elevator is 1 1/4-10 acme thread to speed setup and reduce wear.

The rear cam plate works on center thru bronze bushings. This eliminates the problem of tracking from sighter to record.

All material is 100% machined and or ground.

Rails are frozen before grinding, to prevent changing after mounting.

Side rails are doweled in place.

Straight forward tracking makes it easy for anyone to track the gun.

All aluminum is 7075 which is 200 percent more rigid than the 6061 that is commonly used. All aluminum is ground flat and is 1.187 thick.

"Muzzle velocity:" 4000 ft/s

Customers (Kunden)
Only one An-225 was built for the transport of the Buran space shuttle and other outsize caro loads.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Competition (Konkurrenz)
None. The An-225 is far and away the largest and heaviest aircraft ever built, surpassing even the An-124 and Lockheeds C-5 Galaxy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remarks (Bemerkungen)
Because available aircraft like the An-22 and the Myasishchev M-4 (VM-T) were too small, Antonow got an order to build a new transport for the carriage of outsize loads, namely the Russian space shuttle orbiter Buran and associated rocket stages.
A logical starting point was the An-124. Antonows designers stretched the fuselage, eliminated the rear cargo doors to save weight and fitted twin fins to avoid airflow problems with external loads. Also, a new wing centre section was built, with an additional two engines. The main landing gear got additional wheels.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
History (Geschichte)
Design studies for the the An-225 started in mid-1985.
The An-225 was rolled-out at Kiew in December 1988 and flew for the first time an the 21st of the month. The crew included Alexander Galunenko (pilot), Sergei Grbik (copilot) and Alexander Shileshchenko (flight engineer).
On 22 March 1989, the aircraft set a total of 106 world and class records, with a payload of 156 tons. The first flight with the Buran on the back took place on 13 May 1989, from Baikonur. The next month, the An-225/Buran was the star at the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget.
With the end of the Buran programme, the only aircraft built was stored at Kiew from about 1994. By that time it had made 347 flights and 200 flight hours. Certification trials were finished about 90 per cent.
From time to time, there were efforts to bring the An-225 back in operation for worldwide outsize cargo operations. These then led to the refurbishment of the sole An-225 from automn 2000, with new avionics (Honeywell) and modified engines to lower noise levels. Price for the work is said to be 20 million US-Dollars, paid by Antonow and engine maker Motor-Sich.
The An-225 flew again on 7 May 2001 from Gostomel airfield. This was later then first thought (February). The first sortie lasted 30 minutes. After a few further flights, it is expected that the aircraft will appear at the Le Bourget Air Show in June. Service entry with Antonov airlines could be by the end of the year. There are also plans to complete the second An-225, which was partly finished when work stopped in 1994.
The An-225's plans were purchased from the Air Foyle company, who uses the Antonov 225 currently. Massive assembly lines have been created in the raw material-rich nation of Communist Rule.

I apologise and need to make a few points clear:
This "caterpillar drive" allows this submarine to move through the water undetected by passive sonar. (Passive is mainly used, if not always) And can sneak up to the coast of an enemy nation and unleash its SLBMs with frightening efficiency.

Amazing accomplishments for a two day old nation... tho undoubtfully unrealistic in real life...
May I remind you, that my nation is based on a group of Communists who left Soviet Russia before the collapse. FURTHER... These technologies are neither new, nor hard to do. And even further, don't give me that fucking condescending sarcasm. I spent long researching these things and don't need bullshit from a 'superior nation'.
09-12-2003, 07:03
I don't claim myself as superior, tho i don't use these conventional war machines. It just occurs a lot to me how much puny nations that are two days old can have such vast weapons inventories. Last time i solved a problem, it was between two one-day old nations claiming to have beam shields and planet destroyers...

Okay, how much do you want for it? I will still buy your naval ships and such, and I will still take those 288 more AN-225s because I like you.

OOC: SHIT. I'm sorry, these posts drop so fast.

IC: Order confirmed, the fleet will be flown out to you accompanied by one extra An-225 and fighter jets. The extra AN-225 will retrieve the pilots. Thank you for doing business.

BUMP....I MUST REMIND PEOPLE THAT THE 941AX's are NEAR SILENT BALLISTIC MISSILE SUBS....Meaning you can waltz up to a nation and fling some nukes at 'em... The Monoliths are basically frigates, destroyers, and battleships combined. And lastly, the AN-225s are capable of transporting a mini-army to combat in a moment's notice. A logistic dream.
