Sign-ups are now closed, the entries are in.
(OOC: (IMPORTANT!!!) this is an open tournament for a freeware Javascript-based game called MegaMek (http://megamek.sourceforge.net/index.html). It is an unofficial, online version of the Battletech tabletop strategy game.
I encourage all nations of any tech levels to take part in this. Even if you have never played the tabletop game before, you can quickly learn how to play this game. All the usual pencil-and-paper work done on the tabletop game is conducted for you by the program.
Battletech is a turn-based hex wargame. For those of you not familiar with those terms, it means movement is done on a map divided into hexagons, and all actions in the game are conducted on a turn basis. However, all movement and weapons damage is calculated simultaneously. Here is a picture from the game:

A game requires at least 2 players. Here is what you will need to participate:
-Megamek v0.29-stable-6 which is available from the download page of the MegaMek site: http://megamek.sourceforge.net/index.html
(the filename is MegaMek-v0.29-stable-6.zip, remember to download the STABLE copy, not the dev copy. Once it's downloaded and unzipped, run MegaMek.jar if MegaMek.bat does not work. They're both the same program.)
-The ability to directly connect to a host through a TCP/IP connection. If that sounds complicated to you, don't worry, it's not. Find out if you have a firewall on your computer. If you don't, you're fine. If you do, find if you can go around it or if you can disable it temporarily to play the game.
-Time and the will to play it. Games can last for a few hours due to the strategy element of the game, connection speeds of players, or simply large games.)
Regarding when we will play this, we can decide that once we have enough people signed up. My target is some time next weekend. Or, if we get a flood of players interested, possibly tomorrow. The game rules such as the weight limit and tech level will be decided later. I will explain any questions related to the game if you have any. Just ask. Keep it IC if you wish.
FYI, there is an in-game chat in the program. If you wish, we can keep discussions in there roleplayed for added effect.
---
IC: Benderland is issuing an open war game using its BattleTech war game simulator. The tournament is open for all nations of any tech level. The winner will recieve a cash prize of $150 billion USD.
No actual pieces of war machinery are required, all you need to send is a representative or team of representatives. However, we suggest that the participants you send are adept at war strategy. It will not be an easy game. We will educate your players on how to operate the simulation modules.
Security will be on hand on the premises, and the game will be broadcast on a television network. Broadcast rights are free for participating nations.
