N00b Revolution!?

07-12-2003, 01:23
Yeah. All you n00bs and newbies out there - don't try to revolt against bigger nations. You'll end up dead (or at least annexed). It is not a smart idea to start a revolution of n00bs. Larger nations still have better techs. Also, don't try one sided polls, either. Use better spelling and grammer and learn how to roleplay. Common sense.

In real life, if you owned a young nation, you wouldn't be going around to the US or Russia and saying "You are an opressor" and "I will attack you." You'd end up dead. Also, in real life, if you were typing documents to other nations, you'd make them official and correctly spelled. You are called a n00b not because you are a young nation, but because you don't use common sense.

Who would attack a stronger nation? Not us.
07-12-2003, 01:41
For instance, I am small yet have been RPing since about a week after my creation. Only one person has ever called me a noob - and since then I have learnt from my mistakes which he pointed out.

It's okay to slip up the first couple of times. Just learn from what you did wrong and you'll be okay. But when you keep screwing up and making no effort to correct it, that's when people call you a noob.

Also when I see really lousy spelling and lack of punctuation I am much more inclined to pull out the Ignore Cannon and blast away.

Tht's not how annexing works. Annexing means that they cannot make a difference to any rp's in here without the permission of the player who annexed them. (or at least i think that's how it works - don't quuote me on this, i'm probably wrong)

I'm a n00b here, but I don't think I'm inclined to act it, since I have some experience on other various forums, RPs, and such. It does get annoying, though, so I've compiled a n00bie do/don't list.

1. Don't post stupid topics.
2. Don't say stupid things.
3. Don't wage war on people; do you think France waged war on neigboring countries when it was first born? (Wait, never mind, that answers itself. )
4. Do be courteous.
5. Do have fun.
6. Do act responsible.

I'm a n00b here

TWEEEEEET!

Wrong answer. There is a difference between a newbie (someone new to the game but trying to learn the rules) and a n00b (someone new to the game, ignorant, poorly educated, unwilling to learn the rules, and incapable of intelligent discourse or spelling).

See the difference? A newbie makes a mistake, takes his or her figurative lumps for the error, learns from his or her mistake, and moves on.

A n00b makes a mistake, gets dumped on by all and sundry, refuses to admit he's wrong, blames everyone else for the problem, cries and sulks and generally makes even more of an ass of himself until he decides to flamebait, spam, or both, then gets deleted.

You do not appear to fit in the latter category because:

A) You are capable of correct spelling

B) You seem to be capable of intelligent thought (deduced by the presence of actual cogent commentary)

and

C) You spelled several polysyllabic words correctly (a n00b wouldn't even be able to identify a polysyllabic word)

At last individuals who have the gift of talk. During these past days I have been clicking threads done by these noobs and trust me their hell to read. I've been posting, "this does not make any sense" posts left and right. Their filling up the forums and threads that look good are runned by these noobs. There are also threads regarding the war against Sketch and is being headed by a noob state. There I have at last steamed off the last of my week old anger and let's talk about this a very rational perspective.

PLEASE to all newbies read the rules before you go into action. Also just follow the advice of the posts above. It might do you some good.

Funny, I was talking about this earlier on the "Anti-Sketch and Big Country movement" thread:

N00bs of the world unite! You have nothing to lose... But an RP war.

Seriously though, if any of you small countries start warmongering to "get back" at the older nations, you will get your asses handed to you. Or at the very least will look stupid and inexperianced.

several sites I use lump all newbies together, intellectual and not-so-intellectual alike, together until they earn their stripes.

Happens here, too. I've been guilty of it myself- assumed every newcomer was a n00b.

I frequently tell newcomers that they should spend several weeks doing nothing but reading posts by other nations. This will show the newcomer both the perils of n00bity and the benefits of well-written posts. It will also give the newcomer a good idea of which nations he or she would like to roleplay with. Even players using the same technology may not have the same roleplaying style. Read the threads that interest you, making note of which players have a style you can live with and which ones get ignored or verbally harassed.

Just spelling properly puts you several steps above the average newcomer, but poor spelling is not necessarily an automatic disqualification. Many of the players in the game are not native English speakers. Since I speak more than one language (an admitted rarity among Americans, I admit), I'm aware of the horrible illogical rules and exceptions inherent in the language. Many intelligent people have trouble learning English- especially learning it well enough to carry on detailed and specialized conversations which occur frequently here.

1. Probably the lack of exposure to RP games and forums alike.

3. Possibly a wrong mentor.

Actually, it's quite handy to be able to type quickly in leet. My misguided friend Daniel, who happens to be a hacker (or 'h4xoR) can type as quickly in leet as in English or French, and if you don't want to be electronically 'over-heard', then leet is a simple easy code to use.

Agreed. Most 1337 speak is used by vets to mock n00bs who mispell everything while being morons. As the worst of these are the preteens who love to claim to be 1337 h4><0rz, 1337 tends to be equated with the n00bness.
