Soldier fires on mob; 10 dead

This afternoon at 4:47 PM, a group of Aziklan nationalists, angered with this new government and country replacing their former home, marched up Patriot Street to the front gate of the military barracks in protest. Across the green to their left sat President Baxter and his cabinet watching the scene unfold. The mob began to pester the guards stationed at the barracks so much that one of them brandished his rifle with a few warning shots to back the crowd up. Infuriated, they seized the man and proceeded to beat them. Seeing his comrade being hurt, the other guard let loose with his MG-42 (The same used during WWII) on the mass of people. Ten were killed while twenty-eight were wounded. The guard is in Portland Regional Hospital in ICU for severe head wounds. The guard responsible for the shooting is going to trial on the grounds that he used excessive force and should've found another course of action then to shoot into the mod so wildly.
The case is set for December 6, 2003 at 11:00 AM.

The guard using the machinegun had every right to open fire on the crowd. Another soldier was in danger of being killed, and he acted accordingly to cease the violence against his distressed comrade. Had he taken the time to find another course of action, the first guard could have been killed.
We would like to lobby for the release of the soldier and the charges dropped.

The nation of Naz1s must also urge its support for the release of this soldier. At the least, banish him to my nation, as I, the Chancellor of Naz1s, could use a quick thinking bodyguard. From the news reports we have been receiving in our nation, it seems as if the crowd was going to kill one of your guards had not the other guard protected him, so it was completely justifyable to open fire.
We shall be looking forward to the outcome of this trial.
Also, should your protestors ever get out of hand again, I request you look into our services (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=99974) to prevent furthur incidents of this kind.

Today, Sgt. Thomas Niles was put on trial for excessive force against an unruly crowd. The preliminary hearing seems to go well in favor with the sargeant, but many of the members of the jury are considered to be townspeople and many others are pro-Aziklan, or anti-Juko you could say, and may very well side with the prosecution.
More news after tomorrow's first hearing.

haha...Just ten, a squad of peace keepers from my nation killed something like 120 when they were stationed in Kajal Mars, of course they had good reason. They began hurling debris and petrol bombs at them and they're commander had been knocked unconcious.

From the news reports ATN has been broadcasting, it seems as if this young soldier's future lies in the hands of a jury who may or may not be biased against him. We ask that, to ensure a fair trial, the jury be composed of random citizens from other nations. We would also like to add our support for Sgt. Niles, he will soon be recieving a rather large fruit basket and bouqet of flowers.

Hirgizstan must also implore you for the immediate release of Sgt. Miles, under the ROE he was acting above and beyond, he acted calmly and precisely, he should be applauded for his courageous efforts against overwhelming odds and Hirgizstan implores to immediately drop the case against Sgt. Niles and have this trial stricken from his long term military record and ensure his full re-enstatement back into the military, if not and Sgt. Niles is discharged Hirgizstan will offer him a place as a soldier in our Glorious military, preferably in the Army's Riot Response Unit (ARRA).

All hell broke lose Sunday morning at around 11:19 A.M. As Sgt. Niles was being transported back to his final day of hearing, which was looking to finally be in his favor, a gunman fired from a rooftop three blocks away, aiming at Niles. The bullet missed but struck one of the sargeant's guards. The city was put into a blaze as guard teams in enfiladed positions proceeded to open fire on the rooftop with their MG-42s. The gunman was hit and killed, but down the street minutes later charged a large group of Aziklan Nationalists. The guards, following orders, shot and killed every member of the 227 person strong mob. Three guards were killed, the one shot by the gunman, and two in a bunker who were incinerated by a Molotov cocktail.
The trial has been postponed and temporary Marshall Law has been instigated in Juko.
More as it develops.

Ancient Terra is now frankly alarmed by the happenings in Juko. The population of our great nation is sympathetic to your plight. If you wish it, we can deploy small units of special forces into your country as a pinpoint strike force and to aid in enforcing the peace. Major Rawne and 200 members of the Elite Terran Shadowcat Special Forces unit can be inside your nation within 12 hours. Please respond to us if you require this assistence.

While Terra awaits Juko's response, a small mobilization operation begins west of Terra's capital, Tellerus. At the immense Tellerus Army Complex, headquarters of the Army and home to over 500,000 men, Major Rawne and his troops were prepping to move out. As 2nd-in-command of the elite Shadowcat Special Forces unit, he would be commanding the small force of 200 men on the scene if they were given the go; Lieutenant General Kolea would coordinate the force from his headquarters in this complex. Inside the barracks that served as the lodging and mustering point for Mmajor Rawne and his men, there was a flurry of activity as the unit prepared their equipment.
As the Shadowcats prepared to leave, their transportation did likewise. Two C-5 Galaxy transports waited on the tarmacs, one would carry the troops, the other one would carry their equipment and vehicles.

Juko, other nations i would like to stress the importance of dealing with citywide riots, and the answer DOES NOT lie in the deployment of special forces teams no matter who they are. Special Forces teams are trained to kill an enemy of another army, rebel force or guerilla fighters, not rioters in a city. Trust me, during the dark days of the inception of the Hirgizstanian Government there was the most brutal riots the region has ever experienced. After martial law was declared by the barely-in-power government, around 1000 loyal troops armed with limited weaponry put down the riots in the city of Krana, where the Parliament used to be. They did use force but they did not use special forces tactics, the men eventually became the very first Army Riot Response Unit. There is a limited number, something in the region of 550, part time ARRU soldiers, they are currently on stand down with the rest of the Unit but they could be in Juko within a day or two.
However, i must warn that outside interference in this situation may be fatal and cause an impromptue 'grasp for power' while the country is in turmoil. I must implore Juko to use domestic forces as far as possible and then call for help, and if it gets that bad then the Shadowcats would be more than welcome i presume.

A standoff has ensued between Trooper guards and more Aziklan Nationalists near city hall next to the courthouse. As Sgt. Niles's trial continues, 20 MG-42 wielding Troopers have been fending off a 1,000 member strong mob. The situation is getting out of hand and General Howell has stated his intention to deploy more soldiers in the city and possibly call on outside help. As marshall law stays in effect, the situation boils, hopefully not to the point of overflowing.

Twelve hours later, the Terran Shadowcats were over Juko Airspace, trying to obtain landing clearance. Lieutenant General Kolea grimaced as his C-5D transport jostled around because of turbulence. He had never liked flying.
Of course, it wasn't entirely the turbulence that had put him in his bad mood. If his troops didn't get landing clearance soon, he was going to parachute them into Juko.

The case proceeds as planned. The guards are keeping mob attacks at bay as the case enters its seventh hearing, out of eleven. Yesterday, one of the plaintiffs was shot and killed in a crossfire, so the case was put on hold for two days.
The case is swaying back and forth; no side seems to have the upper hand.
Meanwhile, fighting still continues outside the courtroom.
More as it develops.

Yes, yes Iam aware...Poor, poor Soric is what I meant  hauled off on the Black Ships, and Corbec too.
Having moved into the more densely populated area's of Juko, the special forces teams began to "go native" stealing local clothing from houses and other assorted items that they may need. The rifles they were carrying would be an issue. They had decided to store them in safe spots, carrying only their silenced pistols in public. The search began, the troopers would find and kill the people responsible for convicting the downtrodden Jukonian soldier.
