Bigmensitan successfully launches its first space satellite.
It's not a recon or military satellite though (although those are planned for the future). It was actually made in a joint effort between our space agency and a local t.v. company.
The Company's name is Dish T.v.- Baby! Inc., and this satellite will enable Bigmenistan citizens (as well as citizens of other nations nearby) to recieve satellite t.v.

It was launched early this morning (at about 6AM), and was kept secret until the un-manned rocket reached space. After that the story was broke to the public.
The rocket the satellite was carried to space on looks like this-
http://www.eifcentral.org/images/rocket.jpg
The entire program (including the construction of the rocket) cost approx. 23 billion dollars.
The satellite is in space, and the salvagable parts of the space craft have re-entered Earth and splashed down into the Sea of Bigmenistan, where military personnel picked them up.
Reports from- Dish T.v.- Baby! Inc. are saying that the satellite is working as was planned, and that citizens are recieving their extra t.v. channels.

Does this satalite have a TV camera or the ilk on it?
Bokaslavia, sents our cangradulations to you on your giant leaps into the space tech.
We too are working on a satellite program, but for military pourposes.
OOC:
Does this satalite have a TV camera or the ilk on it?
No, just a dish that beams down t.v. signals.

OOC: Pitty; I was going to park a 13km long Battleplate(the KHGV Jagged Razor of Methodical Dismemberment, to be specific) in front if it, with some of the crew waving from one of the few windows(it's a warship, afterall), and Admiral Hayes holding up a sign reading 'Welcome to the Space Age' :D 8)

We congradulate you as well but at the same time offer our support for launching future satellites as we also have the technology to launch satellites.

Thanks, and I select the Bigman City orphanage.. Millions of children are orphans there, especially considering the small-pox attack a while back.

OOC: how many separate channels can the satellite "beam" down to earth?
By the way, the correct term is transmit ;-) i hate it when people use incorrect terms for subjects dealing with space

What kind of support are you talking about, R&D? Financial?
OOC: btw- I wish you'd wise up and build that missile defense space station with me dude, that's not that big of an upgrade from the space program you have now.... :?

read my above post ;-)
how many separate channels can the satellite "beam" downm to earth?
About 400.
Sports from around the world, movies, news channels from around the world, etc.
The company offers many t.v. packages. Included are customizable sports packages, etc.
a Dish-t.v. Baby! Inc., dish service cost about 25 dollars a month, if you'd like some coverage.
BTW- if so, then don't wire it to me, wire it to the company.

Not bad for a small satellite. Not too bad at all. Congrats

oh and if you ever need Expendable launch vehicles, Credonia sells them (and we can launch your natinos satellites for a small fee). See the storefront if your interested. http://www.geocities.com/credonia/
Cool, I'll have to tag that for future reference.
I believe that I'll use this thread to detail future missions in my space program.
Bigmenistan announces that it has launched it's first military recon satellite.
It was launched a couple of hours ago on board a rocket, and the satellite was dubbed- SAT 2. This satellite will be able to zoom in and take any kind of recon photo imaginable.

The rocket took off at approx. 4PM ET. The vehicle broke apart in it's various stages, until the satellite was launched. The rocket then re-entered Earth's atmosphere and splashed down into the Sea, where it was picked up by Navy personnel.
We tested it out, and had it take a picture of Bigman City Intl. Airport. The images taken look promising for future exploits-

Once the news of this 2nd satellite broke to the public, there were mass celebrations.

What type of rocket was it launched atop of? What are the specs of the satellite? What is the satellites image resolution? (if the latter is not classified)

Kaukolastan congradulates Bigmenistan on its induction into the space age. We have tracked the surveillance satellite and have set up a big banner beneath its orbit that says, "Hi, y'all!" You should be able to see it by 0400 hours. We send you a bottle of champaign to christen your program.

1. The same rocket that the previous one was launched on. That one was dubbed- Space 1, this one was dubbed Space 2. Both of which were self designed.
2. Mass 668 kg
Length 4100 mm
Diameter 1984 mm
Power 380 W
Pointing accuracy 0.5 arcsec
Telemetry 900 Mbit/day
Life Expectancy 20 years
3. That picture that was shown above is about as good a resolution as it can get. Seeing as how it's a very basic satellite, it can't take color pictures, or read the liscence plate on your car.

We thank you for your champaign, it is very appreciated. It's going to go straight to the people in the space agency (right after I take a big swig of course).
We also saw your banner

The company that launched the first satellite goes by the name of- Dish T.V. Baby! Inc.
I have recieved word from their CEO that they give their thanks to you for your offer, and that they want to go through with it.
So now just contact my Space Agency to work out all the details (Bigmenistan Space Agency, is it's name  )
In an offical statement released by the BSA (Bigmenistan Space Agency) this morning, it was announced that 2 more additional military satellites have been launched.-
"The Bigmenistan Space Agency has taken a major step. 2 more satellites have been launched over the past 4 days. 1 of these is a high resolution detailed recon satellite, for military use.
This satellite can zoom in and take colored photographs. It is a major upgrade from the last recon satellite that was launched, which couldn't even take color photos. The 2nd satellite that was launched is a civilian satellite that was funded by our Science Department and our Enviornmental Departments. These satellites will allow us to guage the health of the Ozone layer, and it will allow us to conduct studys on how much the holes increase annually. Here is a photo that was snapped by the recon satellite-
http://www.spaceimaging.com/gallery/ioweek/archive/00-05-15/himalayasthumb.jpg
It is of the Bigmenistan- Northern Whisky Mountians.
The reason why these 2 satellites are major steps in our Space Agency is because they were transported to space on-board Space Shuttles. The 2 shuttles were funded by the Government and were dubbed- Space Shuttle Infinity, and Space Shuttle Galactica. Both of these shuttles were manned. A total of 6 Bigmenistan astronauts went into space and dropped off the satellites. Their names are- Dwight Smith, Buzz Cougar, Sandra Cook, Mitch O'Donnel, Tony Davidson, Roger Philps.
The 6 astronauts on the 2 shuttles both were able to safely drop their cargo, and return home. Once they entered the atmosphere they glided down to Earth and safely landed."
===============================================
He then took some questions, the major one was about the cost of the programs-
"The 2 shuttles each cost about 2.5 billion dollars, the enviornmental satellite cost about 2 billon, and the military recon satellite cost about 5 billion."

Because your a godmodding n00b I'm withdrawing this and since you are a n00b you don't understand my tech level doesn't support space stations but you don't get that through your head o yours.
I wasn't aware that launching a satellite is god-modding. But oh well, I really had no interest in your offer anyway.
