SAN LAVAS, FOSDAM (AP) -- After a year and a half of revolt, rioting, terrorism, civil war and decades of disdain from the citizens of Natoria, the oppressive government has finally been officially declared overthrown.
U.N. officials and military and political analists have foresaw the inevitable crumbling of the Natorian empire months in advance. The major key of evidence of the collapse came after Natorian dictator, Amadan D. Natus was assassinated during a speech at his palace on the outskirt of the city of San Lavas. This, the fourth attempt on Natus' life in the last 6 months, came when the Natorian military was all but defeated, with most of it's troops defecting to revolutionary groups, and local militias.
The country who's population once peaked at 7.5 million strong, has lost over 2 million citizens in the last 18 months. Many citizens escaped through Natoria's borders, but most of the loss is attributed to deaths, mostly in skirmishes between Natorian Guard and militias, or from the amount of famine. The famine which was a backlash by Natus after most of the country spoke out about their position in the national crisis. "The numbers were overwhelming," said former Natus advisor Simon Rech "I for one can't blame the citizens for their actions. 70% had, in one way or another, lashed out against the government. Natus' response was stealing, and cutting off food supplies." But the evil dictators attempt at starving his own citizens, only made them hunger for freedom. "Starvation is a weapon" Rech concluded.
While leadership of the war-torn country has yet to be officially decided, there has been a council set up by militia leaders, and politicians who were all but outed from office during Natus' reign. They are currently composing a new constitution.
"While I would like to believe we are close to becoming rebuilt, the truth is much further from fact" spoke council member and former Natorian military leader Lamar Burton "we are currently writing our constitution. But it is a slow process. Our most important priority is to first, refurbish our food supplies, rebuild our cities and buildings, and get our children back in school." All of this, of course, left little time for celebration. "We have been getting down to business for the last 2 weeks. We have given ourselves a time limit, and we aim to achieve our goals."
One of the goals, would be to get the local currency, the dalor, up to 3/4 of it's former value within 12 months.
"Our economy has suffered badly." said San Lavas representative Francis Bilay "But most of our factories have been left untouched by the militias and military. 50% of our factories are working at their former capacities. Many of them have to have restoration work done, and a good amount have been set up as shelters for the injured, and for those who have been left without homes."
The citizens of this country have all been at hard work, yet continue to mourn their losses. But the death of the past does not stop them from working towards a brighter future. Althought millions in relief funds have been offered to the hopeful nation, they are careful to accept outside funding. Natoria as a nation never had allies, but one of the first moves the council made was to align themselves and join the nearby United Emirates. "Alot of people question our move to join the U.E.. Alot of them wonder why we decided to align ourselves with them. They say the U.E. nations never intervened with the sadistic oppressive regime of Natus," commented Lamar Burton "But Natoria was a poor country before. And joining this allegience would help to boost our economy, make military allies, and hopefully open borders that have not been crossable for decades. We are willing to bury the hatchet and anger of our citizens towards these countries at the same time we bury our own horrible past."
After being asked about the debate within the newly formed Council: "The council has only decided one thing unanimously" Burton shined, "The new name of Natoria is Fosdam."
Fosdam, in the local language, means perserverance.
