Well heres a tip, you have a very small army. Less then %O.5 of your population is in your army. Wow...
I have roughly 4 Million soldiers, and over 10,000 Tanks. You might wanna step that up a bit. With my 4 Million Im still staying well below %5 of my population.

I would hope so, 5% is quite high. 2% is the standard for military nations I believe.

Wow, we are in awe of Arribastan's divine ability to maintain and logistically support 60,000 M1A2 Abrams battle tanks. We would also like to obtain the technology, being Stone Age Americans, to resurrect ourselves. According to the Bible, the only person able to resurrect himself was Jebus... I mean Jesus.

But remember i wont call the reserves too easily, only when my nation is under direct attack.

I now that my army is actually really huge, and im propably godmodding

Im also not going to increase the number of my troops until i have lowered the prosents to something like 2,0 and 5 or something like that.

Islam-Judaism's military consists of the following:

100 devastator tanks
5 spectre gunships
1 tactical nuclear submarine

10,000 regular troops armed with the later model ak-47's and gear

I JIZ - islam judaism intelligence zenith, 5,000 personal, 2,000 of which are field agents - counter part would be CIA, MOSSAD, or KGB

alpha delta omega foxtrot - our special commandos, 6,000 of these, specially trained - counter part would be delta force

this may seem small for a country of 900 milliion, but we are allied with several large powers and do not require such a powerful military

Well, seeing as we try to push quality over quantity, our forces are relativly small, but the incentives to join and stay are rather high - Full family medical, optical and dental, housing and a nice retirement package.

The forces themselves are small man squads using hit and run defensive tactics and infiltration and sabotage over mass destruction. In the event of a war we prefer to take out select targets rather than harm civilians and innocents.

Our typical soldier trains in HTH, CQ and high accuracey firearms from 9mm sidearmes to .30 and .50 lond range rifles. He is equipt with body armour, thermal googles and communications gear. We do not believe in wars of aggression but understand the need for a strong and LETHAL defence. Our military is there to defend, not attack.

"For every inch of ground the aggressor must pay with the life of a soldier. If enough of them die they will turn on their leaders and end the fighting through mass uprising."

Agreed, anything more than that would put a damper on your economy.

Although, for small nations that would be like what... barely 2-4 million or something, so I doubt any "newbs" will take the advice.

Did you mean the M16 or the M16 series of weapons? I usually assume the series of weapons because most people don't bother calling the guns by their real name. The firing 100 rounds in a row was not for the M16, but some variant of the M16A2 (I think).
The Colt M16-A2 5.56mm treated with CLP encountered a jam at 1093 rounds with and continuous jams thereafter, until total failure at 1570 rounds. The M16-A2 treated with MILITEC-1 did not incur a jam until firing 3954 blanks.

All Army personnell are being issued M4's.If that's true, it's a bad decision. The M4 is less reliable, shorter ranged, has less stopping power, etc.

My nation is very, very small. Yet we focus much on military and our econmy is classified as "Powerhouse". Where would that put my military.

Also, if your countries econmy is based on Uranium mining, does that give you a little edge when it comes to holding nuclear arms?

I am new to this RP thing.

The m4 is simply a toned down version of the m16. The M4 is based off the m16. The m4 is used more by Special forces and other specialized units then anything else (I also think the rangers use m4s)

And yet still less than a third the size of the glorious Choson People's republican army and air force (which admittedly soaks up a budget greater than the entire GDP of Japan- just don't tell the masses).

Presently ancient Japanese Type-99 7.7mm bolt action rifles are being replaced en masse by the native Type D-86 bullpup assault rifle in 6.5mm. The Type D-86 is essentially a (heavily) modified AK clone making use of significant stamping and pressing, and displaying a pretty awful finish. Hurrah for collectivist industry!

The Drapoel are relieved to be scrapping the late production Type-99s (while the better made models remain in reserve et cetera) which probably killed more republican soldiers than Christian invaders.

The D-Type K-50m sub-machinegun in 8x21.5mmD (a gun with PPSH family ties) is also being widely issued to infantry (arguably too widely).

But I now find that I can't be bothered detailing the entire military- it'll only have been blown up and replaced by the time I've finished anyway. Damned imperialists!

And yet still, "Today, the PLAAF has become the largest air force in Asia, and the third largest in the world, with a total active strength of 400,000, controlling nearly 4,500 combat and support aircraft, over 1,000 surface-to-air missile systems and few thousand anti-aircraft artillery." (sic)

Two nations (presumably the USA and.. Russian Federation?) have still larger air forces, and those nations are, in NS pop-based terms, relative newbies.

Anyway- The United Kingdom of Victoria and Salvador Military-

Being relatively newly independent, the nation has yet to properly organise and equip large parts of its military. Heavy artillery, sub machineguns, and capital ships are all sadly absent, amongst other short-comings, shortly due to be rectified by the evidently substantial defebce budget.

Naval expansion programmes are likey to receive tens of billions of dollars over the next few years.

As you can see, V&S really only has the bare bones of an effective military force, and vast spending is going into addressing that short-fall.
04-12-2003, 05:49
Well I figure I have 850 million population and a Thriving economy adn even though some have said 4,000 is alot of aircraft, it is still fewer than the active US Air Force, not counting Navy, Army, Air National Guard and Marine Corps aviation assests. And well the United States has about 250 million pop and well, my economy is at least stable if not thebest in the world. So I think my force is just below the upper limit of what I can have. Also to justify my large air force you should note the small navy. I probably should have mentioned that this nation, "The Joint Military Forces of The American Alliance", is entrusted with the defense and protection of a region which at one time contained 20 nations. The story goes as those 20 dwindled to 8 the JMFAA absorbed refuges and seized military technology and equipment, but still much of the assets have been purchased on the international market.
04-12-2003, 07:13
Well, we may be small, but as our population increases we will strive to increase our defence forces.

A break out of out de-classified numbers can be seen here. (http://www.loresinger.com/Hourglass/CTMB.htm)

OOC-I have to ask - Why would any military EVER give out it's forces, especially detailing what you have the way folks here do? That's military suicide! Every weapon has it's weakness and if you tell your enemies and potential enemies what you've got, you are giving them information that they can use against you in times of war. The break out of forces I'm giving for my military is what the UN and public see... ;)

Most of what's given out here is probably not exactly difficult to find out- many of the systems in service in V&S are made by private contractors, or else imported at the tax payers' expense. The public know much of what we have... just like the British public can perfectly easily find out how many Challenger tanks are in the British army's service.
04-12-2003, 15:04
Only a very small amount (see bottom) of our men are on duty. Due to our economic crisis. (the labour union took us from very good to struggling then we left the UN and it went down from struggling to basket case.)

Please note a lot of the equipment was given to us. I made a lot of websites for different countrys storefronts.

There have been reports from the current conflict in Iraq of weapons jamming.Every gun jams.
Thus the OICW is being stepped up, and due out in 2005.The OICW is not going to be replacing the M16.
All Army personnell are being issued M4's.If that's true, it's a bad decision. The M4 is less reliable, shorter ranged, has less stopping power, etc.

All Army personnel are NOT being issued the M-4. Mortar crews, paratroopers, special forces, etc are. The next rifle to be issued is the M-16A4

The M-16's replacement, the XM8, currently still has a long way to go.

The M-4 IS shorter ranged, that's all you got right.

Skibereen maintains a strict standing army of 320,000 troops.

20,000 are dedicated logistic persons.
Our Armed forces as it were are all former guerrillas from the civil war.
Armed predominately with AK-47's and various other light arms.
almost all military vehicles were destroyed during the civil war.
what remains is:
50 T-60 tanks

120 'White' Armored car half tracks.
around 2000 varied troop transports(mostly soft skinned, WWII-korea era)

32 Huey Choppers(of which only 6 are gunships)

We only have 10,000 uniforms(those are reserved for our border gaurd so our neighbors dont mistake them for bandits).

Skibereen does not train conventional military tactics as a conventional army has not stood here for a hundred years.
Rather our armed forces wear civies' they use mostly civilian vehicles with little or no markings.
Our populace has a garaunteed right to bear arms and compulsory military service. Training every able bodied man and women from age 16 to 35 in the basics of guerrilla fighting, and having 75% of our army being vetran guerillas themselves who spent there entire combat tours on Skibereen soil give us our defense.

However given the enormity of some of the conventional armies, and lack of nuclear weapons, assymetrical warfare would be our ONLY option in combat against most.

horah for the little guy.

that's all you got right.Wrong. The 5.56mm round can not fragment at a decent range with such a short barrel, the barrel and forend rapidly overheat, and the shortened gas system works under greater pressures (increasing ROF and producing more stress on the moving parts, thus decreasing reliability).

OOC: ok I dont if this M-16 AK-47 debate is or out of Character, but either I have say something.

The jamming 'legend' about the M-16 comes from vietnam, the orginal un-modified M16's were absolutly not suitable for actual combat conditions, any I say again any combat conditions.
There were designed to be precision weapons, excellent range for an assault rifle, fabulous accuracy for a cartidge in a full auto or semi-auto weapon, but like any precision piece of machinery a graet deal of maintenance is required, so for the introduction to the field the level of maintanance to the weapon working was unexpected, unexpected weapon failure in combat makessoldiers nottrust the weapon. US GI's seeing their NVA and vietcong counterparts using AK's that really can be buried in mud and fire instantly without even clearing the barrel were with good reason, pissed.
Breaking down an M-16 versus breaking down an AK is the difference between putting in stitches in a cut and doing surgery on a severed artery.
I could show my 8year old daughter how care for an AK and she could keep it working, you have to be TRAINED on the M-16, you only need to be SHOWN how to operate the AK.
The AK-47 has absolutly superior KnockDown, no way to argue it, it's round is very comparable to the .30-06 round, if you hunt you know what that round can do. The M-16 round is .223 cal, or it is a .22, great velocity good accuracy down the range(far exceeding the AK) but 0 knockdown.
You shoot a man with an M-16 in the arm, and he can keep fighting, maybe even with that arm, you shoot a man with an AK in the arm, and you could very easily blow it right off.
to make it short.
range, accuracy, technical superiority=M-16
power, simplicty of use=AK-47.
urban combat, jungle combat, give me the AK(cause in the city, you are not shoot over 300yards)
in any teritory where you readily get 500yard shots I will take the M-16.
Both weapons are good, for there purpose.

The so called "jamming legend" does come from Viet Nam, and was not because of the rifle itself, the jamming was instead caused by the improper type of ammunition being used.
between 1965 and 1967, several major problems, centering on the direct gas action and the lack of maintenance equipment, occurred with the M16 in combat because there was no one entity to manage the overall production process of the M16.21

The use of ball gunpowder left a very sticky residue in the barrel and the gas tube of the M16. Since the barrel wasn't chrome-plated and no cleaning equipment and/or lubricants were available, it hardened quickly and soon made the rifle inoperable. The residue also caused spent casings to become stuck in the chamber and the rifle suffered a rim shear extraction failure, where the bolt's extractor tore off a portion of the end of the spent casing, leaving the rest of the case stuck in the chamber. Because of the ball gunpowder's ballistic characteristics and the rifle's buffer's light weight, the M16 fired fully automatically with a cyclic rate of between 850-1000 rounds per minute, well in excess of the normal 750-850 rounds per minute. Compounding this comedy of errors was the lack of training and instruction given to those troops who were issued the M16.22

Beginning on 15 May 1967, the problems were investigated by a Congressional subcommittee, headed by Representative Richard Ichord, a Democrat from Missouri. After seeing the M16 malfunction firsthand during tests at Fort Benning and Camp Pendleton and traveling to Vietnam to assess the problems, the Ichord Subcommittee report, issued in late June, 1967, stated "the much-troubled M16 rifle is basically an excellent weapon whose problems were largely caused by Army mismanagement."23 To correct the M-16's fouling problems, the formulation of the ball gunpowder used in the 5.56mm M193 Ball cartridge was changed by reducing the level of calcium carbonate(CaCO3 - limestone, used as an acid neutralizer to extend shelf life) from 1% to .25%, less than half the amount shown to clog the M16's gas tube. A new heavier weight buffer was developed to reduce cyclic rates back to normal. A cleaning kit was developed, along with a new buttstock able to store the cleaning kit in the rifle. Finally, a massive training program on how to properly maintain the M16 was instituted

I don't know you, nor where you get your information from, but from that statement, I would have to say you don't know what the fuck you are talking about, no offence.

Every offense taken.
Let me educate you.
There were two major problems with the earlier M-16s. When first designed, the ammo spec called for what was referred to as "stick" powder, which was a cleaner burning powder, albeit with lower power. Most small arms experts at the time condsidered the M-16, with stick ammo, to be virtually self cleaning.
However, when the Army deployed the weapon, they did so with the more familiar "ball" ammo. Ball ammo is dirtier, which had two effects, clogging the gas tube, and fouling the chamber.
The second major problem complicated the chamber fouling. The original M-16 was fitted with an open flash suppressor, and in wet conditions, moisture would run into the suppressor and down the barrel by capillary action, aggravating the chamber pitting problem.
When fired under these conditions, the excessive heat caused by poor gas flow, would over-expand the cartridge in the pitted chamber, and it would jam.
Where I get my information from is very simple, 6 years of active duty in the United States Armies' XVIII Airborne Corps, with two combat deployments.
Now take a wild stab at what weapon I was issued, then take another shot at what was more often then not in the hands of the 'bad guys'?
Also my brothers that are right now in Iraq, are oddly enough experiencing jamming problems with their M-16's.
It appears the M-16, just like in Desert Shield/Storm does not do sand well.
I am proud to say my father served in Vietnam, and in 1967 he and his( 2/18 ) recieved their M-16's. Massive problems, constant, even after every 'fix'.
Third my father and I have both seen what a .223 does to a man.
which is why not either one of us own an AR-15(M-16) or any variants.
You are lucky you have never actually seen what an AK-47 does to a person. I however have seen men peppered by M-16 fire and not even balk, until a vital spot is hit.
I don't know where you are getting your information, but maybe you should check into reality. You obviously only think you know what other people are talking about.
