News: Research leads to first nuclear power plant

VERDONIA F.D., Veridon (AP) - Since the discovery of Uranium in the forests if Veridon, scientists working for the Veridon government have been working around the clock to find a use for this mineral even though mining had continued. Today, the Veridonian government announced plans for the first nuclear power plant in Veridon to be built.

President Michael Girardi's response to the step was, "It is a great thing to have found a use for such an abundant mineral in our nation and I hope we will be able to use this technology to its fullest." The president also noted that the nation was also looking into the possibility of nuclear weapons.

The first nuclear power plant is scheduled to be built some 10 miles from the center of the capital of Veridon. The capital is currently fueled by more than 5 coal power plants which are scheduled to be demolished as soon as the first nuclear power plant is up and running smoothly.

Isn't that a little too close to your nations capital. We suggest 100 miles away in case things go awry.

We have faith in our scientists and we have extensive safety procedures in place. We assure you, a repeat of Chernobyl will not happen in Veridon.

Congratulations on building your first fission power plant. Moontian hereby offers to take all of your waste products, which will be used in our power plants.

We'd sugest you keep a few of the old coal plants around and maintained to provide backup power; at the very least, you'll have to take the reactors offline every few years for maintaince, which can easily take weeks.

Thank you for your offer but this has already been overly-discussed in Veridon and the decision to keep the waste has been made. The waste will be used for research into the half life of the uranium being used. It will also be used for research of safe disposal methods.

Thank you for your suggestion. After discussing the idea it has been decided that we will keep two of the coal plants for backup purposes. It may prove useful if a problem arises as it does with every experimental technology.

Where are you going dump the radioactive waste from the plants?
You can't just leave the stuff lying around. Deserts are great for that purpose ...

Where are you going to dump the radioactive waste from the plants?

As stated earlier, we will keep the waste under close observation for purposes of understanding the half-life of the waste of the uranium we are using. We will also use the waste for research into the uses of it. We have also recently uncovered a salt formation in a region in Veridon and we can also bury the waste in the salt cavern and seal it. The salts will kepe the radioactive wastes away from other natural formations hopefully long enough to allow the wastes to no longer be a danger to Veridon. But Veridon will firstly use the waste for research purposes before disposing of the waste.

nice PURPLE bumpthe Warring Deathtrap congratulates you. we believe in nuclear power, but use solar and wind power when our nuclear plants are down. we recommend these to you as your secondary power, if your economy can support it.

Nah; coal should be sufficent; he already has the plants, and it's only a backup power supply. Solar and wind are expensive to impliment, and if he was going to build enough to create a viable backup production capasity, he might as well forget the nuclear plant as solar and wind are cleaner and often cheaper to maintain, despite the higher costs to build.

Veridon has already decided to keep two coal reactors up and running for when the nuclear power plant goes down. I believe coal power to be more reliable than wind or solar seeing as if the sun is blocked and there is no wind (which is something of a semi-common winter day in Veridon) we are basically not able to handle the power loss. For this reason, Veridon's government has opted to keep some coal power plants running.

Because Hutu would be forced to import coal, which would make it dependent on other countries, and we were willing to help fund alternitives. Meanwhile, backup power supplies like this would only be used intermittently, and they already have them in place.

It is not hypocritical, it taking multipule factors into account.

I encourage people to voice any and all questions they may have about Veridon's nuclear power plant however I strongly discourage the introduction of personal feuds into this thread.
