Description
The M113A5 APC is designed to transport 12 fully equipped infantry and it's crew of 2 soldiers to the battlefield and support them. The main improvements over the older M113 models is the addition of armor, mobility, and weaponry.
In the area of protection new armor has been added to the bottom and sides of the vehicle. Tungsten plates have been added to the sides, supported by ceramics. These plates and ceramics gives protection from RPG fire. Also Konkakt-5 ERA comes standard, giving protection from HEAT and low caliber APFSDS rounds. Skirts have been added to the tracks to protect those against threats.
The M113 can comes standard with the Arena-5 APS. An instant scan radar detects incoming ATGMs and throws a grenade at them, either destroying or disabling it.
The M113A5 is airtight and is equipped with an over pressure systems that ensures that only good air leaks out but no bad air leaks in.
The two fuel tanks are outside of the vehicle, placed on the back. This greatly reduces the chance of fire. Additional fuel tanks can be added to give the vehicle increased range and mobility. Range of vehicle with standard fuel tanks is 500km
The vehicle is powered by a 550 horsepower diesel engine that gives the vehicle the ability hit 65 mph on paved roads. A new suspension system increases cross country mobility. The vehicle is amphibious and can hit 8 mph when going across water.
The M113 can be airdropped from a C-130. 3 M113s can be fit into a C-17 because of the M113s light weight, only 16 tons.
The M113 has also received a giant upgrade in weaponry. The turret is designed to be fully customizable to your army and needs. One M113 can be armed with a 25mm Bushmaster while another can be armed with a Kornet missile launcher. The turret can take a 106mm recoilless rifle, a Hellfire missile launcher, a .50, and whatever else you could possibly think of.
The M113 can be turned into a artillery piece in less then 20 minutes by opening the top hatch and putting a mortar in. The M113 usually accepts 81mm and 120mm mortars but a 140mm or 155mm could easily be fit.
The M113 can also be fitted with a mine plow for getting rid of mines or digging defilades. The M113 makes a great engineer vehicle.

Cost: 1.8 million USD for this powerful and versatile vehicle

OOC: I don't think vehicles with ERA can be airdropped... Besides, if a shell/etc. hit the ERA when crew's dismounting, it is very hazadrous.

Dank you

The M113 may be an old design, but it still kicks the ass of newer things, especially when upgraded

Why can't it be airdropped? If you're worried about the ERA then you can strip it off and use it for something else, like pancakes.

This also makes a great AA platform. Two vulcan cannons can be mounted along with a stinger missile system.

I am not sure that could hold 12 infantarymen still with that turret.

Besides, anthing could hit that and bye bye infantary.
Johnistan
30-11-2003, 00:16
It has that turret and still holds 12 infantrymen in real life (thats the Italian version of the M113)

Well, the M113A5 is protected against RPGs and 30mm projectiles on the front and the flanks, making it a well protected and mobile APC.
