Air-to-Air: Interception of enemy aircraft in a defensive operation, or grasp of air superiority over enemy regions by using both "beyond-vision-range" (BVR) and short-range air-to-air missiles (AAMs)
Air Interdiction (AI): Low- or medium-level attacks using guided and unguided ammunitions
WEAPONS
Seven stores stations, one under the fuselage and six under the wing, up to 4,500 kg.
Air strike weapons include laser-guided bombs (LGBs) and various unguided ammunitions.
The baseline variant mounts new armament, including RVV-AE, R-27T1, R-27R1 and R-73E air-to-air missiles and KAB-500Kr guided bombs.
Also, the new avionics comprising:
the weapons control system built around the Kopyo radar;
the helmet-mounted target designation system;
the multifunction display and the HUD;
new navigation, communications, ECM and video recording systems, the Karat integrated monitoring and flight data recording system.

The cockpit has hands-on throttle and stick control (HOTAS). The cockpit is equipped with a head-up, wide-angle holographic display, which provides aircraft control data, mission data and firing cues. A collimated, multi-image head-level display presents tactical situation and sensor data, and two touch-screen lateral displays show the aircraft system parameters and mission data. The pilot also has a helmet-mounted sight and display. A CCD camera and on-board recorder records the image of the head-up display throughout the mission.
