9:00 PM, Tellerus
Inside the immense 130-story ATNN Broadcast Building in Tellerus, crews bustled about. The 9:00 news were about to go live. With a nod from the technical crew, the lead anchor, a pretty woman with brown hair, began the broadcast.
"Hello, and thank you for joining us on the Ancient Terran News Network. I'm Melissa Ariya..."
"And I'm Koushiro Iyagi. We have several news reports for you tonight. For our first story, we'll take you live to downtown Tellerus, where Karoly Haden is reporting on an anti-government rally."
The scene changed, and a woman was shown standing in the rain in downtown Tellerus. Fierce winds whistled in the background, while sheets of water poured down from the sky. Surrounding the woman were massive skyscrapers, each of them at least 90 stories tall. In the more immediate area, however, hundreds of protesters walked around, chanting anti-government slogans and setting fire to dolls that vaguely resembled Emperor El' Jonson, Prime Minister Karn, and other prominent members of the Terran Government. The roaring flames cast little pinpricks of light into the background. The woman began speaking.
"Thank you, Koushiro. As you can see, several hundred men and women are out tonight, protesting in front of the massive Shadowmeld Autos Showroom on the bottom floor of the Dimoran Corporation Skyscraper. They're angry about Prime Minister Karn's latest decision to life tariffs on the import of Gradenk's Shadowmeld Autos into Ancient Terra. As you probably already know, the extremely versatile Shadowmeld "Logrim" SUV has been selling like wildfire in Ancient Terra, and most of the protesters are those that've lost their jobs due to slightly declining sales of Terran-produced autos."
The image cut to an earlier video taken during a short press conference with Prime Minister Karn. The young man walks up to the podium, ignoring the hundreds of camera flashes blinking at him.
"After great thought, the Terran Parliament agreed to lift tariffs on the import of vehicles from Gradenk, one of our most stalwart allies. We hope this will result in increased sales at auto dealerships nationwide, as well as stimulate Terra's slightly declining foreign trade."
The image cuts back to Karoly Haden as she stands in the street, rain still beating at her coat.
"As you can see, Prime Minister Karn is unconcerned with this protest. He stated that this decision will be 'For the greater good' of Ancient Terra. Still, these protesters are obviously not too happy about it. Back to you, Melissa."
The shot cuts back to Melissa, who is smiling at the camera.
"Thank you, Karoly. As our next story..."
She trails off as a sheet of paper is passed to her. She reads it, and then looks back up at the camera.
"Well, viewers, it looks as if we've got a report just in!"
The words "Breaking News" flash up on the screen, followed by a computer animation of a Terran battlegroup firing missiles at some offscreen target. This is quickly replaced by Melissa again, although the words "Breaking News" remain at the bottom of the screen.
"Welcome back to ATNN, this is a Breaking News update. According to Terran Naval Command, the destroyer ATN Westshire Tide was attacked only minutes ago in an unspecified location. There's very little information on the attack as of yet, however we do know that Westshire Tide retaliated in some form, and that she was damaged. The extent of the damage is not known, however we will keep you updated."
The report ended, and was replaced with a hastily compiled computer animation of the Westshire Tide firing missiles, followed by an explosion. The image of the explosion was replaced with the words "Terran Assets Attacked" in massive silver letters. Across the nation, people hurried to their TV sets and turned to the Ancient Terran News Network.
(ooc: Feel free to jump into this RP. Somebody is going to need to claim responsibility for the attack on Westshire Tide. However, don't just go out and say "I attacked your destroyer!" I'd prefer if you were a nation of at least 200 million people. However, any size nation is allowed into this RP.)
