Due to the recent reestablishment of the GDODAD, senior members of the West Midlandian government have decided to reform the military. Its previous focus was national defense, so a second branch of the Midlandian Armed Forces will be created to deal with offensive situations. Extensive training and re-training will be conducted, this time focusing on terrain and tactics outside of what a soldier might find within The West Midlands. This should increase the combat ability of Midlandian forces outside of the homeland.
The ranks of the MAF are expected to increase by 100%, effectively raising infantry numbers from 750,000 to 1,500,000. In addition to that, another 1.75 million support personnel will be called up to deal with the rising number of troops. Aircraft and naval production will increase. It is expected that another battle group of naval vessels will be built in addition to the two already in service. Tank/artillery production will be increased only slightly, for there’s already a large amount of ground weaponry within The West Midlands.
While the pacifistic people of The West Midlands are concerned by the increased military presence, they agree that the country should be defended from threats here and abroad. It is expected that taxes will increase until the construction and reformation of the Armed Forces is completed.
Prime Minister Watts gave an official response to concerns about the rise in national defense…
”We live in troubled times, it’s as simple as that. Whether it is due to the efforts of the GDODAD or not, the world is quickly becoming a dangerous place. It is in the best interests of The West Midlands to arm itself against all threats. I hope that my people can rest easy now that we are ready to combat the evils of the world.”
There has been no official stance taken by the government as to the “GDODAD situation,” but people assume that The West Midlands will side with the Anti-GDODAD forces, due to its democratic views.
