Ferrussia addresses UN assembly (Update: Resignation!)

Ferrussia

UN Headquarters, General Assembly Building

The Ferrussian Ambassador to the United Nations stood amongst debate over the recent passing of the Labor Union resolution. Grabbing the microphone, he tapped it first to be sure it was working.

"Ferrussia," he began, "is reeling. I've recieved word that the stock market crashed a good 683 points today. Economic outlook for the fiscal year in Ferrussia just dropped to an across-the-board loss in every major industry. The recent "Author's Union", formed under and inspired by the Union resolution, has recently demanded 50% royalty rates for every author in the Union! This means the entire Book Publishing industry, the heart of Ferrussia's economy, must increase prices just to make ends meet!

"The point I bring, my fellow nations of the UN, is that this sort of resolution is not only damaging to our great nation - setting our national budget plans back an estimated 15 years - but is thought acceptable to more than half of the active United Nations! We cannot allow such travesties against our national soverignty - perhaps the UN would like to tell us exactly how to run our military next!

"Ferrussia has always believed in democracy. But this is not democracy - this is lunacy! Ferrussia is Ferrussia, not Free Soviets, or any other country. We cannot be infringed on like this. As such, the People's Republic of Ferrussia will be officially withdrawing from the United Nations, unless the UN can come up with something to at least attempt to alleve the damage done. If such a proposal does not come as the next vote, we will officially resign from the UN.

"We send a plea to other sensible nations to join us, and we will vote with our feet! If the United Nations is too lost in the "betterment of the world" to take care of its member nations, then it is not the place for any self-respecting nation! Let the United Nations become it's own country - Ferrussia will not take part in such a doomed organization!

"Again, I plea to any sensible nation to propose something to stem the tide of soverignty-stealing resolutions, and make the UN a better place - or else to be done with it once and for all! Ferrussia will not stand for this, and we hope the world is not so deluded as to allow this power-hungry organization to remain with your support!

"I have more important business to attend to than this... this joke of a democracy! My assistants will answer any questions."

With that, he walked out of the General Assembly room.

The represenative of Ansteorra was obviously fresh to the U.N.: his briefcase was still new and polished, ready to change the world. He listened to Ferrussia's speech.

As the ambassador brushed by him, the represenative followed.

"I agree with you," he called after, following down the hall. "Perhaps it would be wise to work together."

He coughed - realizing the naitivity of his words. But they would do.

RE: UN

We have long since left the United Nations, based upon the same premise. We objected time and time again to such ludacris resolutions, but nonetheless, they continued co come. We felt your pain, and we are more than willing to help with the economy (since we left, we aquired a $42,000,000,000,000 budget :) ), but encourage you to leave the UN at once, lest a second resolution irreperably damage your economy.

Sincerely,

Subject: Applause

We applaude your effort, and recently resigned from the UN in protest of such measures. It is our belief that most of the nations that voted "Ay" did so without knowing the consequences.

Again, we believe wholehartedly in what you are doing, and should you require support in the future, don't hesitate to give us a call.

Sincerly,
Cpl. Facehugger, Primier of the USSCF (United Socialist States of Central Facehuggeria)

"Yes, this recession truely is terrible. We've had caviar three times this week, and we can only afford two holidays this year. Our youngest son has been getting bullied for wearing clothes that are three weeks old. Worse still, my private jet has been repossesed because I couldn't keep up with the repayments, and I'm afraid I won't be able to buy a new Jaguar, looks like I shall have to make do with my trusty old BMW.
Truely this is the winter of our discontent."

The Allied States of Terra Alliance agree fully with the opinions and objectives of Ferrussia and Ferrussia's supporters. We stand fully behind their actions and will also withdraw our nation from the UN if reform is not forthcoming in the immediate future.

At a recent press release, President Yavlinsky condemned the UN's recent actions, saying that he "will not allow communists to run our nation." He reaffirmed the UN Ambassador's deadline of the next resolution, and commented that if a proposal is not in the works within one week, Ferrussia would resign from the UN.
Omz222

The Omzian "Puppet" Ambassador at UN, the 26 years old Jovin Kursuk, snored again. The snoring sound behind the sign "Omz222" can be heard seats away. Wearing a dirty black suit with a red-and-blue-striped tie, he lied again the chair.

His responsibility? To make sure the Delegate in Omz222's region is endorsed on the list.

Suddenly, he woke up from the dream in his nap. "Must be that dream where I ate a 10-pound chocolate again..." Saying this to himself loudly, he wiped his mouth, looked at the Ferrussian ambassador, and slept again.

What's the point of listening to the speech when he is not supposed to do anything in the UN except sleep and make sure that teh delegate of Nasicournia is endorsed?

OOC: More for showing why I'm in the UN :P

"Silly capitalists, still attempting to run a nation on an old and failed system. Our advice to the government of Ferrussia is to seize control of all private property. That gives the government the ability to make any demands of their workers they need. So long as it is done fairly, everyone benefits. Thus it functions in Edolia."

Thank you, Edolia, but for the time being, Ferrussia and it's people are quite satisified with the Ferrussian capitalist system. For with a truly gifted leader such as yourself, your system indeed works splendidly. The trouble is finding a successor to such a brilliant leader who does as well as the first.

"Indeed. That is truly a problem that we have faced in the past and it has only been since the ledgendary leadership of Derik von Blatterschplitt, my own father, that Edolia has grown to be the nation that it is. It is for the reasons that you mention that I have been pushing our nation towards democracy. I would suggest to you that you steer your people in the direction of supporting these proposals. Make peace with the unions, if you will. There is nothing in the resolution that disallows a union from freely giving up certain rights and privilages in exchange for guarantees from the government.

There is another issue that I believe our two nations would do well to discuss. Recently, Edolia has found itself lacking in the way of economic flexability. We have tried to build a nation that combines the equality and freedoms granted by socialism with the economic power and flexability of capitalism but so far we have failed to fully merge the two systems. Our intelligence indicates that our nations share certain allies, notably Fyreheart and it might be beneficial for both powers to create a stronger relationship. Perhaps we could agree to an exchange of advisors? We would be very interested in hearing your ideas on how to incorporate the flexability of capitalism into our communist nation."

OOC: I assume you are a modern tech nation? If so, it may be best to move these discussions to my diplomatic thread (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=94743), which is very busy right now, but I'm sure we can deal with it.

In light of recent events, the People's Republic of Ferrussia would be highly interested in an exchange of ambassadors, which, with any luck, could eventually become the establishment of permanent diplomatic relations between our two nations. As such, we would be willing to host an envoy from Edolia in Kiev's beautiful Mariinsky Palace, or would otherwise like to send our own to your great nation.

We hope you accept this offer, and look forward to the benefits we can recieve from one another.

<<OOC: That thread seems to be rather busy and I don't want to just jump in and interrupt with a completely different topic. If you don't want to continue the negotiations on this thread, we could do it via telegram. Oh, and we are indeed modern tech.>>

"We would be honored if your nation would host Wang Xiaoping, one of Edolia's most respected economic theorists who, since immigrating to Edolia from China rapidly rose to a position of respect in the Edolian government. He is at the forefront of the "Blatterschplitt Communism" movement in Edolia which seeks to combine capitalism and communism into a more perfect economic theory. We would also be honored if for a second phase of this conference, we were to host an envoy from Ferrussia to discuss a stronger political relationship between our two nations. We would love to show the representative our capital city, Blatterschplitt, the true City of Lights."

(OOC: Let's just keep it going on this thread, then.)

With the Omz-Sniper Country war insuing, and the probability of involvement looming overhead, I'm very sorry to report that the diplomatic corps in Kiev are a bit overloaded at the moment. We are in a time of great diplomatic communication, but as such, your envoy will not be able to meet with any significant members of the government. A top economical adviser and ambassador will be able to meet with your representative in a day or so, and transportation from Ozyn AFB to the Mariinsky Palace will be provided.

We have recently discovered that you are allied with our great friend Omz222. This information has been seen as a starting step for negotiations with your nation, and we look forward to being able to fellowship a friend of our mutual ally.

Our best wishes to you and your great nation, and may our nations' ties grow stronger every moment.

While the Kingdom of Crookfur fully understands Ferrussias action we still have to pause and wonder about how this resolution has affected so many countries yet managed to leave Crookfur rahter unscathed (not that i can remeber how i voted on that one).

"Yes, we are indeed allies of Omz222 and many other members of the former RGGA alliance. Though Edolia was never a member of that alliance, we kept close ties with it and many of its members, including Fyreheart, Omz222 and Nankin are now allied with us through the United NationStates Anti Oppression and Tyranny Organization (UNAOTO). In fact, we would like to invite Ferrussia to apply to join that alliance. Though we have a screening process and three day waiting period, with so many allies of Ferrussia already in the alliance, there is no doubt that your nation would be accepted."

United Nations Headquarters, General Assembly Room

The Ambassador to the UN stood again, to make a final speech.

"Ferrussia is outraged that, despite our cry for some sanity in resolutions, the next proposal on the vote is to restrict our military incomprehendably! In response to our plea, we have recieved a slap in the face! And for what?

"They propose to keep our military from using landmines. LANDMINES! For heaven's sake, we just used air-dropped land mines to cover the defense of a crutial airfield against attack! Without the landmines, the airfield would have been lost, and hundreds of brave Ferrussian souls, as well. We will not be so easily spat upon by this disgrace of an organization!

"I do not feel the need to further argue our case - the utter insanity of this bill will NOT affect our sensible nation! I fear we stand nearly alone in this mindless crowd, and we will do so no longer! I urge all sane nations to abandon this shipwreck! Ferrussia will not fund this organization, or be subjected to such maniacal laws any further! We are resigning from the United Nations as of now!"

With that, he grabbed the plastic nameplate in front of his position and snapped it on his knee, throwing the two pieces onto the floor in the center of the room. He grabbed his briefcase, motioned for his aides to follow, and walked out of the corrupted halls of the United Nations forever.
