Fishing Boats Vanish

28-11-2003, 00:59
Ten Fishing Boats vanished North of Cluster Alpha 7's oceanic drilling operation this morning.
The weather was perfectly calm.
Visibility was 80%.
No distress signals was received.
No rational explanations have emerged so far, although one navigator has claimed that foreign nuclear submarines, which could drag fishing boats underwater by their nets, often test their vehicles in the area, despite it being legally owned oceanic territory.
Such activities are an infringement on the sovereignty of Cluster Alpha 7 and could provoke serious international action.
The Cluster Alpha 7 government and the families of the lost citizens is today pleading for an explanation to the disappearances

For reasons of operational security, the Shildonian Navy is unable to divulge the locations of any of our vessels. Furthermore we cannot comment on the capabilities of those vessels, for the same reason.

The Commonwealth of Cowes denies any involvement in this incident.

Is there not any monitoring facilities installed other than the reliance of distress signals then? Surely some nation has radar or monitoring facilities of this region.

What are the numbers? How many are missing?

The Allied Provinces of Comdidia is currently searching all SONAR, sateillite images, and otehr monitoring equipment to see if it picked up anything about your ships disappearing. We would like to know roughly what time they disappeared and how many.

-Prime Minister John Foster

Reports from the fisheries ministry estimate that 54 personnel missing.
There is still no word from any of the vessels.
Cluster Alpha 7 has dispatched a fleet of submersible probes to investigate the last known locations of the vessels.
All co-operation from foreign naval bodies in the area is greatly appreciated.
Our press office is still awaiting contact from the Ministry of Intelligence who we gather are investigating as of yet confidential matters surrounding the incident.

This is to announce that the High Command of the Cluster Alpha 7 Oceanic Division would greatly wish to converse with the High Admirality of Shildonia as soon as possible.

This is to announce that the High Command of the Cluster Alpha 7 Oceanic Division would greatly wish to converse with the High Admirality of Shildonia as soon as possible.

The High Command is most welcome to send a representative to the Admiralty Command Centre in Saphire Port. However, as we mentioned earlier, we are unable to discuss whether any of our vessels were in the area at the time of this alleged incident.

Cluster Alpha 7, 10am local time
A crowd of protestors bombarded the Shildonia embassy this morning with rocks and other debris.
It has become the general consensus that the government of Shildonia is aware of certain circumstances contributing to the the disappearance of ten vessel's yesterday.
The governor of the international sector appealed for calm and reaffirmed that the Cluster Alpha 7 administration would point no blame until answers were found.
He did assert, however, that Shildonia's reluctance to share naval details would hamper the search.
Meanwhile in Alpha Cluster 7's oceanic region, no further traces of the missing vessels have been found.
Oceanic probes and an array of aeroplanes are scouting the area.

The vessels vanished yesterday at 9:45am
Hopes are fading

Tahar Joblis denied all responsibility, pointing at Shildonia's "long history of imperialist action against civil vessels" in a statement released tuesday.

A Lapsian catfish Gunboat was patroling near those areas the other day looking for drug and other contraband runners. Soon after the time these ships were reported missing the commander of the vessel reported having found some wood which resembles the materials used in many merchant essles. The wood was in extremmely good condition and it is assumed to have being onlyn their for a short time. Prior to the report of the missing vessels the ship also spotted a submarine several kilometers away, the vessel was not identified or IDed.

Lapse would like to offer any assistance nessacary to Cluster Alpha 7 to investigate these missing ships

Aboard a Vizzen patrol ship

Radar operator: Sir, picking up a vessel 20 degrees to port, just beyond our territorial boundry.

Captain: Heading?

Radar Operator: right for us Sir, but not moving very fast if at all.

Captain: Let's check it out then. ALL HANDS ON DECK! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

After several minutes the unidentified vessel is in visual range

Captain: Hail them and have the boarding party stand by. Helm, pull up along their starboard .

Helm: aye aye Sir

Boarding Party Commander: We're ready to go Sir. Doesn't appear to be anyone on deck. It's flying Cluster Alpha 7 Colours.

Captain: Send over the boarding party to check it out.

After several minutes of searching the vessel the boarding party commander reports back... Sir, no crew or passengers are aboard. Looks like she was abandoned a few days ago. All systems are still operational.

Captain: Hmm <pauses> Well, since it's adrift in international waters, I claim salvage rights for the government of Vizzen. Secure the vessel and let's tow it back to Vidren.

Due to the increasingly unstable situation in Cluster Alpha 7, all non-essential personel have begun to be evacuated from the Shildonian Embassy.

In other news, the 105th Maritime Reconnaisance Wing began an excercise today called "Operation Ortsac", which includes the fictional scenario of searching for a missing submarine. An Admiralty Spokeman denied the excercise was connected to the situation in Cluster Alpha 7, saying it was organised several months earlier. When questioned about the events unfolding near Cluster Alpha 7, the spokesman refused to comment, again citing reasons of operational security.

An anonymous message was received today in the Fisheries division of Cluster Alpha 7 Oceanic Operations.
It claims that the missing vessels were largely 'targetted' and subsequently sunk by a certain organisation known as "Operation Tetra".
Cluster Alpha 7 is currently investigating the claims.
Rioting outside the embassy of Shildonia has ceased, after all non-essential personnel were evacuated from the complex by helicopter.
Public opinion is shifting very rapidly.
Rumours are spreading concerning the recent terrorist actions in the country perpetrated by the Nation of "Cluster 4", who face eviction from this region following a terrorist campaign allegedly funded by their government.
Suspicions are being raised over whether or not Cluster 4 is involved, directly or indirectly with the disappearance of the Cluster Alpha 7 Fishing vessels.
Meanwhile, one of the vessels, void of its crew, was discovered by the Vizzen Naval division earlier today.
The families of the missing crew now believe their relatives to be dead.

So

The civilians of Cluster Alpha 7 are beginning to suspect Cluster 4 of attacking their fishing vessels?
Wouldn't it be politically convenient if Cluster 4 was found guilty?
Then Cluster Alpha 7 would have a legitimate reason to eject Cluster 4 from "The Mullweeno Homeworlds".

We will fight for our right to remain in our homeland. But we will fight politically and legally. Know that you tread on a perillous path when you attempt to rouse your population through propoganda.
And who is to say it wasn't your own intelligence ministry, Cluster Alpha 7, who sank your ships?

This is Veronica Chu reporting for Vizzen World News. Navy officials have confirmed that earlier today a fishing vessel, set adrift in international waters, flying the colours of Cluster Alpha 7 was siezed and towed to Vidren Harbour. Officials report that no crew had been found aboard the vessel, but there appeared to be no signs of foul play. An undisclosed sourse within the navy has said that a video tape taken from the vessels onboard survailance camera shows some disturbing images. When contacted about this, the navy denied any such video exists.

Information concerning the terrorist organisations of Cluster 4 remains closely guarded by the Mullweeno Quadrangle authorities. Investigations are being made into links between Cluster 4 and certain terrorist organisations. All details concerning the missing vessels are being carefully collected and examined. Co-operation from the neighbours of Cluster Alpha 7 at this time is greatly appreciated.
