The voice of the Council today deflected numerous questions about the current basket case economy of Mangala, stating only that "we're working on that."
Mangalan government spending has skyrocketed in the last few years, including the purchase of several spacecraft, the construction of a diplomatic compound in Mangala, and large amounts of foreign aid. It is also suspected that Mangala recently paid out a large bribe to Pilon colony Mars to move them out of the Hellas Sea. Sources inside the government also admit that a large amount of money has been diverted into unnamed off-planet accounts.
"Essentially Mangala's problem is that they are trying to fund too many projects at once, while still limiting economic options in the nation," said noted economist Phil Lizzaro. "Their recent refusal to allow uranium mining in national forests was the kicker, as our already tiny uranium mining industry left for greener pastures."
The Mangalan Minister of Commerce claimed that a revision of the budget was being conducted but would not specify details.
