War for Independence

27-11-2003, 14:06
After the United Bigtopian Freedom Fighters attacked Nanakaland's Fort Bigtopia (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=97603), it became clear that they were active again. They claimed they wanted freedom, but people were ignoring them because the majority of people were happy being under Nanakaland's temporary rule. However, the UBFF drafted a Declaration of Independence for Upper and Lower Bigtopia (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=97610).

Nanakaland sent more soliders and asked help to get rid of what is commonly known as a "terrorist organisation." The United Bigtopian Freedom Fighters responded by paying Holy Mercenaries, a rival of Nanakaland, to fight Nanakaland in Bigtopian soil. With the increase of the tensions, war is expected to be soon. The UBFF rallies loyal supporters and the Holy Mercenaries army is on the way....
27-11-2003, 14:09
The Holy Mercenaries army arrives at the northernmost point of the Bigtopian River. The ruins of Nanakland's Fort Bigtopia was thought as an ideal meeting point for the UBFF army and the HM army. Holy Mercenaries awaits the UBFF's forces - we fear war may be comming soon.
27-11-2003, 14:14
Nanakaland Intelligence has detected the Holy Mercenaries' army in Upper Bigtopia. They sent a warning. One thousand Special Forces arrived in the area where Fort Bigtopia used to be, they were only an hour away from the HM army....

TRANSMISSION TO HOLY MERCENARIES
The UBFF is a terrorist orginization. Most of Upper Bigtopia is against them. Pull out or you will be fired upon.
END OF TRANSMISSION
27-11-2003, 14:19
The UBFF soldiers met with the Holy Mercenary soldiers. The UBFF army was an unlikely army. There were 5,437 men - all of the current soldiers supporting the UBFF. The freedom fighters were armed with weak weapons - the kind you can buy in a gun store. The UBFF and the Holy Mercenaries then fortified the ruins.
27-11-2003, 14:25
The soldiers were uneasy because the Special Forces were hiding throughout the area. They couldn't leave the area or else they would be ambushed. They had to attack now. They had no choice. The soldiers prepared for combat.
27-11-2003, 14:26
The Nanakaland Special Forces turned around and hid in the area. Only 174 were able to be seen from the enemy. The soldiers looked at their enemies. The UBFF was actually rallying an army.

"We need some reinforcements!" a Special Forces man said over his intercom. It would take a while before reinforcements arrived....

The Nanakaland Special Forces turned around and hid in the area...

I saw that comming. They are Special Forces, after all.

We will aid Nanakaland with their operations against this threat on two conditions...

That all people of Bigtopia will be given Nanakan citizenship, with all the rights tat come with it.

Also we require that Bigtopia become part of Nanakaland.

If Nanakaland can agree to that we can commit our forces to aiding Nanakaland in Bitopia.

The Shot Heard 'Round the World
One of the UBFF soldiers looked at the 174 Special Forces of Nanakaland that were visable. He shot his pistol right at a Special Forces man. The shot was a bullet proof vest, so we don't expect casualties. This shot started the Bigtopian War for Independence.

The soldier that was hit in the vest was knocked out with the force of the bullet, but his bullet proof vest saved him. The man was Special Forces Comander Thomas Jacobson. In retaliation, the Special Forces that had surrounded the area opened fire on the enemies.
27-11-2003, 14:42
Shocked by the opening of fire so soon after they had arrived, the mercenaries hesitated to get their weapons. That was a fatal error. Despite greatly outnumbering the small Nanakaland force that was present, many mercenaries were killed before they were able to return fire.

Thankfully, the UBFF had an army there that kept the fort in mercenary/UBFF hands as the mercenaries readied for combat. Finally, the soldiers fired from the ruins of Fort Bigtopia and into the Special Forces that were surrounding the area.
27-11-2003, 14:48
The Special Forces finally had casulties. Thomas Jacobson, managed to get back onto his feet just in time to sound the retreat. Out of the thousand Special Forces that arrived, only 532 survived. The Special Forces retreated until they reached the nearest city.

At the city, Thomas Jacobson met up with the reinforcements. The Nanakaland soldiers regrouped and prepared to storm the fort, this time with more than infantry. They readied Standard Nanakan Army Helicopters, a well rounded type of helicopter used for both agressive actions and troop transport, along with Nanakaland Assault Tanks. The second attack would be much stronger, but now the enemy had time to fortify parts of the ruins....
27-11-2003, 14:50
Intermission of Combat
The combat is paused as Nanakaland readies a second wave of forces. Diplomatic actions are still allowed.

EDIT: This gives people time to join the RP. It also gives Holy Mercenaries and the UBFF time to fortify the ruins of Fort Bigtopia. Oh - and it gives me some time to take a break from NationStates. This pause will probably last a few hours unless Upper Bigtopia, the thread leader says otherwise.
27-11-2003, 14:57
Agreed. The first battle is over - a victory for the UBFF - so to be realistic we should wait before having a second battle in the same location.

Yeah, but diplomatic actions between nations can still continue.
27-11-2003, 15:02
Did I mention that this intermission gives time for allies of mine to come against these terrorists and lowly mercenaries?
27-11-2003, 15:02
No.
27-11-2003, 15:03
No.

Very funny.
27-11-2003, 15:04
I wouldn't be talking if I were you. I won the first battle of this war!
27-11-2003, 15:05
That's only because I retreated to get a stronger force. Now lets stop talking. It's supposed to be an intermission!

OOC: Hmm. Who to help? The oppressor or the freedom fighter.

IC:

King James IV declares McLeod03 to be neutral in the conflict at this time, but threatens that use of violence against civilians will not be tolerated. ANY breaking of human rights, and we will get involved.

Nanakaland isn't an opressor. It is just that the UBFF wants freedom by force. By the way, the UBFF isn't that popular even in their own nation.
McLeod03
27-11-2003, 15:44
OOC: One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.

Just because you think he isn't an oppressor, doesnt mean the country people don't either.

In the thread "the UBFF Returns," Upper Bigtopians openly criticize the "terrorists" and thank me (Nanakaland). The UBFF are oppertunists. I did nothing wrong, they just want rule of Upper Bigtopia.

27-11-2003, 15:48
OOC: Hmm. I suggest caution, if you launch too harder attack, popularity might grow. (I.E. Vietnam style incident)
27-11-2003, 15:48
The UBFF is a minority in Upper Bigtopia and they fight every regime that was ever in power in this country - they want power. Most of the nation hates the UBFF. Nanakaland isn't an opressor.

EDIT: However, if civilian casualties start, the UBFF might gain support.
McLeod03
27-11-2003, 15:50
OOC: In that case.

IC: Two transport ships filled with Royal Marines are dispatched to Upper Bigtopia to try and keep the peace between the two sides until differences can be resolved.

Kihameria will send over 15 J-F 357 (©) prototypes to Nanakaland, and we will place them under full control of there military forces.
27-11-2003, 15:52
In fact, the UBFF split the region of Bigtopia into the patchwork of nations it is today.
McLeod03
27-11-2003, 15:53
Then maybe trying to unify the regions by mediating with the UBFF would be a sensible idea, instead of bombing them into the ground whereby you probably wont get rid of them all.
27-11-2003, 15:57
I will see what I can do for peace, but remember the UBFF attacked and destroyed Fort Bigtopia, met up with mercenaries in the ruins of the fort, and opened fire to my troops that where in the area.
McLeod03
27-11-2003, 15:58
Peace is always the best option. The troops will arrive in about one NS week. Please refrain from major attacks until then.
27-11-2003, 16:04
Okay. Remember, they have a base in the ruins of Fort Bigtopia.

Peace is always an option, the onyl variable is how long it takes to get there, and what sacrifices have to be made by both sides.
27-11-2003, 16:17
Peace is always an option, the onyl variable is how long it takes to get there, and what sacrifices have to be made by both sides.

What I meant is that both sides have to be willing in order for peace to work. Otherwise, the peace is fragile and will shatter.
27-11-2003, 16:51
From our base in Burgston City, Lower Bigtopia we are sending the 1st and 6th infantry divisions (both veterans from the earlier wars here), the 13th Armored Battalion (50 M-1A1 Abrams tanks) and the 8th Helicopter Detachment (10 Apaches, 10 Black Hawk helicopters).

Also two restored Cleveland-class light cruisers bought from Keam last year (read: yesterday) have taken up position off the coast of upper Bigtopia)

I put these at the command of Nanakaland, who I'm sure will do a good job inm restoring order to these lands.

OOC: That last bit is only because I'm going over to see family all of today and stuff my face with turkey and other such goodies.
27-11-2003, 17:48
UBFF,

Do you accept a peace treaty?

From,
