Leader of Deep Space Pirates Trial [Future Tech RP]

26-11-2003, 20:11
The leader of the Deep Space Pirates was arrested today by the EGS Fist after his fleet was totally destroyed by other spacefaring nations. He was brought to our capital planet, where he will be tried for treason (he was once a citizen of my country) and piracy. More background information can be found by clicking here. (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=96019)

He is having his trial today. This is the first half. You must vote either guilty or innocent. This poll will last two days. Over the course of the two days, nations will come in with evidence and witnesses. When the poll ends, the verdict with the most votes is what he will get (this simulates the jury results in a fair trial while still RPing). If found guilty, there will be another thread, this time with the poll with choices death penalty or life in prision.

Deep Space Pirates would not be able to continue as a nation if their leader is found guilty. If found innocent, the leader would be released and his nation would be probably rebuilt. The trial starts...

P.S. Only nations previously involved in the Deep Space RP (the one I linked to) will be able to provide witnesses and evidence, but other nations will be able to comment and vote.

That was Independant Pltuo. I always do that.

I would vote, but I need more evidence to go either way. We are thus waiting.

The Free Land Of Froggyliciousness calls it's Supreme Chancellor to the stand.

*Supreme Chancellor Lance Johnson comes to the stand*

SC Lance: I was directly involved in this conflict. The pirates were threatening colony vessels with virtually no armaments. Our ships warped in after a distress beacon was issued. We destroyed the pirates with virtually no losses, but they were ruthless in attempting to kill us.

Convincing enough evidence.

The Nomadic Peoples of the Great Space Fleet sends its witness, the High Commander, to the stand.

"I am the newly elected High Commander," he said. "I was also there. We had diplomat guests on our ship. It was then that we noticed the Deep Space Pirates were nearby. We were threatened, then they were threatened and we sent out the only defence we had - a few hundred fighters. However, other fleets were with us and they chased the pirates away." He paused.

"The Deep Space Pirates came back with a bigger fleet. That is where this man threatened us," the High Commander continued. "His fleet was destroyed by our allies and he survived in an escape pod. The only reason he was caught is that the Holy Empire of the Great System tricked him. One of my ships was damaged and just recently repaired." He took one last pause. "That is where we are today. This man was their leader. I reconize his voice anywhere." The speach ended and the High Commander stepped down.

In his defense, the supposed pirate leader called his wife to the stand.

She said, "I am his wife. I always know where he is. He is not the pirate leader. The pirate leader died with his ship. This man you have arrested is a matenence worker that was kidnapped and forced to work on the ship. He simply lied and pretended to be the pirate leader when he was in the escape pod so he could be rescued."
26-11-2003, 23:22
"Objection!" the High Commander shouted. "I reconize his voice anywhere. That man is the pirate leader!"

The prosecution brought forth Exibit A and Exibit B. They were both data disks that had recorded transmissions on them. They played the first one. This was from a threat received. The man was no doubt the Deep Space Pirate leader.

"This is the Pirate Command Vessel. Surrender your ships or be destroyed! We have our weapons powered!" boomed an evil voice.

The prosecution then played the second one, the one sent by the man, who was then in an escape pod.

"This is the leader of the Deep Space Pirates," a man said over a staticy connection. "We will no longer harm your vessels. Our entire fleet has been destroyed, but please spare my life! I will never attack you again if you do!"

Both voices were the same. It was clear that the Deep Space Pirate Leader and the captured man were one and the same.

Desperate, the pirate leader changed his defence plan. He called himself to the stand.

"I am only a victim of words," he said. "Words and threats are empty. I called myself a pirate and I threatened a fleet, but I never actually robbed anything. You have no proof of me ever stealing. I may be guilty of treason, but I am not guilty of piracy. The max sentence for treason is 45 years. After all, its not even high treason. I plead guilty to treason, but innocent to piracy."
26-11-2003, 23:43
The prosecution saw this coming. They took Exibit C, which was a picture. They walked it up and showed it to everyone. It was a picture of a damaged colony ship.

"Assult with attempt to steal," the main prosecution man said. "That is piracy. As for treason, we've already got your confession for it." The evidence was great against the pirate leader, but it was up to the jury to vote....

Guilty!

Guilty!

Just vote.

Torontonias
27-11-2003, 02:09
The Federation of Torontonias had a High Science Command Ship in the vicinity, we saw how the pirates attacked, but we could only watch as we have very little armaments ourselves.

-This is only to reenforce the pirates guilt-

Unfortuneatly we did not have any background information so we cannot provide new evidence to show that he is guilty of piracy

Be sure to keep up with the Deep Space Thread (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=96019), the Future Tech RP thread that covers the events of the region of Deep Space. The Deep Space thread is the main thread, this is just a subplot.
27-11-2003, 02:48
In the other thread:

As the trial commences, a dark plot forms. A group of radical revolutionaries against the Emperor ready a few corvette class ships. They readied blastor rifles and blaster pistols and headed toward the Imperial Supreme Court building. The rebels had heard that there were national leaders there, but they didn't know how (un)lucky they were. They head toward the building....
Sarapin II

OOC: It seems that the voting has ended, and my vote not required. But I will put in my testimony anyway.

Official testimony against the leader of Deep Space Pirates
Presented by Yepp Skywalker, Secretary of State and official reprsentative of the People's Republic of Sarapin II

The Sovereign nation of Sarapin II finds the defendant guilty as charged. Follows is a partial recording of Captain Piett's report from that sector, shortly before leaving:

...Space pirates are hiding in the debris field and making raids on the Great Space Fleet. However, it seems that they are beeing kept at bay by large space fleets in the vicinity. Despite this, one colony ship has been heavily damaged...

Disclaimer: This testimony may have been corrupted sometime between the time we recieved this and now. Thank you.

End of Testimony

OOC: I did not copy and paste the quote, so it may not be exactly like the report in the other thread. Hence the disclaimer.

*SC Lance steps up*

Your honor, I would like to make a statement. Upon further review of the sensor logs, this was found.

*SC Lance shows judge sensor logs*

Here we have stolen speeder bikes, illegally modified Stouker Concussion Rifles, and a few stolen freighters. This shows further piracy. However, I ask that this man have a more lenient sentence than death or life in prison.

*SC Lance steps down*
27-11-2003, 05:02
Fine. Because the suspect confessed for one of the two charges, the sentences will be either 50 years, 30 years, or 20 years in prision. Just give it one more real-life day before the sentencing trial begins.
27-11-2003, 13:05
It looks like most people agree that this man is guilty.
27-11-2003, 13:47
We recomend that, as the majority of the people think he is guilty and the evedince is overwhelming against him, you end this part of the trial and start the sentencing.
27-11-2003, 16:25
The pirate leader has been found GUILTY. There is no more need for these displays of politics. The second trial thread - the sentencing will start soon.
