R&D Website Hack - WEAPON IN DEVELOPMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: THE MERTA PROJECT

Status: The theory behind The Project seems to be valid. The computational checks and double-checks are holding up. At this stage the scientists are sorting through to make doubly sure that activation of the device will not effectively charge or destroy atmosphere of the Earth, causing widespread catastrophic loss of life. They seem reasonably sure this will not occur.

Funding: While we have some of the world's best and brightest minds working on The Project, we MUST devote more funding to this if it is to succeed. The elaborate laboratory setup itself cost us a fortune, and that is money which could sorely be used by other sectors of the government, not to mention the standard military, if they were to find out about it.

Prognosis: Next week we should begin the first lab tests of the underlying principles involved in The Project. It works on paper and on a chalkboard of equations, now will it work in the real world?

Covert Operation Reqs: The enormous energy demands of any prototypes will be difficult to hide, especially with the recent reports of a spy operating under deep cover within the program. We must be extraordinarily careful to maintain all possible appearances of normality.

Maipupu May Be Developing Secret Weapon

By ZAMHA WANHEDI, Associated Press Writer

MAIPUPU - Today an official Maipupuyan website was replaced with what was purported to be a scanned copy of a top secret government document.

This document indicated that the Maipupuyan government is engaged in some sort of secret weapons program, in which there appeared to be some belief it could possibly "destroy the atmosphere of the Earth."

A government spokesperson denied all knowledge of any sort of major weapons program, and she pointed to the small Maipupuyan population and military as indicators that the report was falsified.

"If we were engaged in some large scale military research project, don't you think it would be a little hard to hide in a nation as small as we are," quipped Kalula Puwama. "It just isn't possible."

Several experts around the globe considered the isolation of the islands of Maipupu to perhaps explain why something like this could go unnoticed by the major powers.

"Come on, nubes stink at arpying. Don't worry about it, it can't be real," an anonymous source was quoted as saying, a message perhaps distorted by the satellite phone he was using.

This possible development in a world already rife with a plethora of weaponry and constant rumors of war seem to forbode ill for this part of the globe. If any consolation can be taken from this story, it is in Maipupu's past dedication to its long-held democratic values.

OOC: Heh; reminds me of the H-bomb scientists who were betting that the weapon'd ignite the atmosphere and burn the planet to a crisp, even as they were preparing to detonate one 8)

Even though I doubt you have the budget to do this (Look at your creation date) the Free Land Of Froggyliciousness is considering..measures..to ensure you do not develop a super-weapon.
