The Art Of Declaring War

Declaring war. Some nations are doing it n00bishly, and without reason. If you want to be a decent RPer,

1. Turn off the caps lock
2. Find an IC reason
3. Make a formal statement
4. Make sure you have the amount of troops that you should considering your nation size.

BAD:

I DECLR WAAAR ON U BECUZ U YLLED AT MEEEE
I SHIP OUT

7,000,000 AIRCRAFT CARRIERS
1.000,000 SUPER-CLONE TROOPERS WITH NUKLR BOMBZ
1,000 INFINITE NUKE MACHINEZ

Good:

I declare war on *nation name*. This nation has *insert reason here* *your nation here*. I have bought these troops

*insert troops here*

*insert ships here*

*insert aircraft here*

*insert other stuff here*

Age and relation to war

If you are a one month old nation, you probably shouldn't be declaring war. In fact, you probably shouldn't, regardless of age, unless you have upwards of 90 million people, and upwards of 10 billion military budget. A

Buy or produce?

If you want equipment, you must buy it or produce it. If you have a new nation, you may not have the budget to buy it, but would a new nation suddenly produce military equipment? No, it would produce agricultural goods, etc (needs of the new nation). Think about it. Also, if you have a new nation, you're probably not going to have a huge army, or even a concern about military. So it's best to wait a while.

Colonization-and the art of Colonize-modding (colo-modding)

It's fun to RP space nations. I myself are a "near-future" nation with a small fleet. But saying 100% of your military budget is going into colonization of a new planet is not realistic. Even if that was so, a new nation's military budget is pretty small. Someone might try to put their ENTIRE budget into colonization. This is just horrible. Your ENTIRE government budget? You'd have to cut every single government program, etc. It's better to put, say, 60% of your military budget in every year, and just wait a few days RL. Is that too hard?

This is a (real) example of colo-modding:

Ok

Today and issue was sent by General Hein to mobilize all of the Sebecean combined forces to begin the invasion of Jimi Jo Bob. Ships are being loaded. Two command carrier groups have jumped into subspace this morning. Hein ordered SSC Juno to contribute the main force. When the fleet is mobalized over Jimi Jo Bobs area, they are to comince planetary bombardment. They are also ordered to begin to annex the conquered territories into the Greater Sebecean populace.

Note: He declared war on me, I'm only defending

Note: Sebecean colonies are 100% military, and SSC Juno is about 160 million, plus the rest of the Sebecean Dominion Nations

OOC: kids, this is a phenomenon known as puppet-wanking. it is using your puppets in a conflict. everyone will hate you afterwords.

No its called colonization.

This is mostly directed at M-Pire and Max inc. which have been n00bs over the last week, violating all of the above "rules", and godmodding excessively.

I will right now..I'm not aiming for a sticky, since I'm kind of new, but that would maybe help the II board right now.

Actually, November nations should be November 2003 nations to distinguish them from November 2002 nations.
The same for december and all other months.

don't forget to mention the problem of "well my space colony puppet is 100% military, and that isn't puppet-wanking, it's colonization"

Just as another example I'd like to give the type of war declaration I use when necessary.

The nation of Grimdale has endured repeated insults and slurs from *insert country here* despite multiple attempts on our part to resolve this in a peaceful manner. You have brushed aside repeated warnings of what the consequenses would be. Our patience is now at an end. As of this date Grimdale is now at war with *insert country here*.

Of course, insults and slurs aren't a serious reason to declare war in RL, but it applies very strongly to NS. Of course, it's better to be attacked by someone, and then attack them back. A much better reason for war.

You did a good post. You know more about colo-modding than I do. I just simply "moved" to FroggyWorld, and didn't RP it.

But note how the insults themselves are not the reason for the war. The refusal of the other country to come to a peaceful compromise is the reason. Not all war start over territory. I've had several that have nearly started over very small incidents that escalated rapidly by the refusal of one or both sides to backdown in the slightest.

I don't see the harm in using one other nation..but how many can people make these days? Having a ton of puppets won't help you in a war, especially if you create a ton at one time. Crappypants, one of my other nations, (Oppressor D00d is my third one) is the one (if i could choose) I would take to war. That's it. Plus I'd probably RP both sides (Leader Of Crappypants, blah blah, Leader of froggyliciousness, we accept, blah blah) to make it more "realistic".

in a war, though, any good NSer will tell you that that isn't fair, unless you have your puppets fight each other.

Sometimes, when I'm bored, I create nations just to fight and destroy. Those nations are not "puppets," they are "target practice" and my troops need it.

Ah yes, puppets/colonies/provinces/states/etc; the reason using them in combat is considered cheating my many is because it allows you an unfair advantage by effectivly bypassing the normal growth curve. Even if you're only taking one puppet, you're still cheating, just to a lesser extent than you would be if you'd taken more.

target practices work too, but otherwise they're unfair.
