The Boa Vista Presidential Election promises to be one of the most closely watched event in the country, as it can affect the nation's future adversely. The following are the candidates for this year's presidential election

1. Antonio Carmona (Liberal Empowerment Party of the Commonwealth)

President since independence, Antonio Carmona is highly regarded by the people of Boa Vista and its territories. His approval rating have never fallen below 70%. He and his wife of 20 years, Maria Florinda Carmona, is much like JFK and Jackie Kennedy.

During his term, the president has been vital in strengthening the economy, forming alliances with other nations, drafting a constitution for the home region of Pacifica, establishing extensive social welfare benefits, and protecting Boa Vista against foreign aggressors. If he is reelected, he vows to tackle the high tax rate of the country, continuing to establish Boa Vista's reputation abroad, and form more alliances with other nations.

With the issue of Boa Vista's two controlled territories, Sao Jorge and New Spartha_, the president promises to give them greater autonomy in local affairs and give them adequate representation in the Boa Vistan Parliament. He has vowed to eventually give these territories the status of "Free Commonwealth States".

2. Jose Gannady Perreira (Boa Vistan Conservative Front)(CANDIDACY REVOKED DUE TO CRIMINAL CHARGES)

Perreira is a successful businessman and politician known for his gentle manners. However, many doubt that his ultra-conservative policies will cost him a lot of votes.

As a member of the Chamber of Councillors from the city of Beira, he voted no on issues such as the ratification of the Credonian- Boa Vistan Alliance Treaty and the Social Welfare 2003 Act. He is widely viewed as an isolationist and a person that will eliminate welfare.

With the issue of Boa Vista's two controlled territories, he once proposed to integrate them as districts and deny citizenship to all people living in those areas. He has since backed off from the position. He is still believed to hold thoughts about lessening the degree of autonomy of the local governments there, however.

3. Cecilia Fernandez (Boa Vista First)

As the only female candidate for this election, her campaign is viewed as a novelty. She hails from the far-right party of Boa Vista First, long known for their hatred against immigrants. While serving as a lawmaker in the Chamber of Deputies, She had once proposed a bill that will remove all immigrants and people "not of Boa Vistan blood" from the nation. These people accounted for 20% of the population and the proposal was met with massive oppositions. The bill never reached a committee and she resigned as a result of the uproar.

If she is elected president, she vows to bar all people "not of Boa Vistan blood" all constitutional rights. She also calls for Boa Vista's withdrawal fron all international organizations and alliance treaties. Finally, she vows to invade all othr countries in order to establish a supreme country.

With the issue of Boa Vista's two controlled territories, she vows to turn them into "prison colonies".

4. Carlos Cavalho (People's Force)
Carlos Cavalho is an active member of the Communist Party (People's Force predecessor) and is a adamant believer in pure Communism. As president, he will nationalize all industries and group the people into production units to work in factories. He vows to phase out the government in 10 years.

With the issue of Boa Vista's two controlled territories, he vows to maintain status quo.

BREAKING NEWS FROM TDC NEWS CHANNEL 2

Presidential candidate Jose Gannady Perreira has admitted that he had violated various laws during his chairmanship at a major corporation in Boa Vista.

Recently, an employee at Boa Vistan CompuTech Corporation has revealed various documents that indicated Perreira was involved in insider trading, money laundering, false revenue reporting, and fraud.

Perreira is currently under arrest and because of this, his candidacy for the presidency is revoked by the Commonwealth Electoral Commission. The Commonwealth Supreme Constitutional Court and the Parliament have expressed their support over the Commission's decision.

President Antonio Carmona has commissioned a independent investigator to prove that he is not involved in this. Perreira's supporters are calling the election a fraud and they also accused the President of rigging the election.

President Carmona made the following statement after a meeting with Cabinet officials:

"I have nothing to do with this, I just knew about it when I turned on the TV this morning. I am as shocked as everyone is. Mr. Perreira is known intenationally for his honesty and his good manners. His withdrawal from the race will prove to be a loss to all Boa Vistans."

TDC will bring you up to date with the Perreira Scandal as it happens.
