At a press conference in Dras-Leona today, President Maverick announced the new space program. The following is an audiotape of the conference:
“Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to unveil our space program. It is our intention to set up a temporary colony on the Earth’s Moon within the next seven years. Two spacecraft are under construction. One is to land on the moon, and the other act as a ‘Conveyer Belt’, providing supplies. The purpose of this colony is purely scientific, we do not wish for a military presence on Luna for many years yet.”
“Mr. President; where are these ‘spaceships’ being developed?”
“I’m sorry, but for security purposes I cannot tell you that. I’m sure you understand.”
“Are there any plans to visit other planets in the solar system?”
“No, not at the moment. Our main goal right now is the moon.”
“When will blueprints of the ships be made available to the public?”
“As of this moment, blueprints for both ships are being made available. They are in the final stage of design, so they are not likely to change.”
“How many people will be required to man the ships?”
“The colony ship, which has been dubbed the ‘Cosmos’ has a crew of twenty, while the supply ship (called the ‘Streamliner’) with only require a crew of three, to save room for supplies.”
“Do you have an idea of how much this will cost?”
“I do not have exact figures, and I don’t want to give imprecise information.”
“When will the ‘Cosmos’ and ‘Streamliner’ be completed and ready for launch?”
“Sometime during the next seven years, all other information is sketchy at best.”
“Thank you, Mr. President. We have no further questions.”
“It was my pleasure”
