The Dominion of Eredron has officially announced it's plans to send an unmanned spacecraft into space followed by a manned shuttle; the Consul Supreme has voiced his approval for a plan to have the Eredron flag planted on the moon within the next ten years.

The Senate voted earlier this morning on the creation of the Eredron Space Exploration Agency (ESEA) with a split vote of 260-45. Opposition was largely from the Reformist Party.

The city of Danfalls will be home to the Agency's future headquarters, with the planned launch site less than 20 minutes away. Top universities in Eredron have been conducting extensive research and planning on sending a man into space for over five years, receiving extensive grants from the government; nearly two hundred of these men will join the ranks of the ESEA, as will many from the Eredron Air Force.

With an expected viewing audience of over thirty million, the Dominion of Eredron prepares to launch the ESS-1, an unmanned spacecraft, into an orbit of the planet.

The launch will take place at a launch site south of Danfalls, where the security precautions are overwhelming. ESEA has coordinate with the Eredron military to protect against a possible terrorist attack; defense measures have been taken to protect the spacecraft, launch site, and crowd from a variety of possible threats.

Four hours later..

Despite initial concern and worries, the Eredron Space Exploration Agency confirmed minutes ago that ESS-1 had succesfully made its entry into space, and begun its three day orbit of Earth. No problems have arisen so far, and officials remain optimistic that the mission will be a success.

ESEA Director T. Harris also announced that the ESEA website, www.esea.er will begin broadcasting a live feed of the spacecraft's external monitors.

The people of Eredron celebrated today, as the first Eredron spacecraft has returned, after orbiting Earth for three consecutive days. The spacecraft, ESS-1, was assigned to gather data and test the capabilities of current Eredron equipment; over 50 hours of video was recorded using various filters, approximately 3,000 images taken, and several samples of space dust collected.

The success of the ESS-1 mission will undoubtedly provide a boost to ESEA funding, as well as public interest in the program. Eredron's first manned space shuttle launch is expected to take place sometime in the next two to four years.

Breaking News

Good Evening. We interrupt tonight's programs to bring you this breaking news bulletin. Approximately twenty minutes ago, the ESS-1 exploded. The space shuttle was re-entering the atmosphere when ESEA lost radio contact; no details have been released as to the nature of the explosion.

A naval rescue team has been dispatched to the Southern Sea, where the ESS-1 spacecraft crashed.

As the ESEA investigation into the ESS-2 crash comes to its conclusion, having decided the crash resulted from mechanical failures in the cockpit, the governmental space agency is preparing once again for a space flight, and is ready to come back in full swing.

"Naturally, we grieved for the deaths of those brave men," an ESEA official said today. "However, the best way to honor the memories of those men is to go forward with what they started, not abandon it."

The Eredron Space & Exploration Agency has announced that ESS-3 will launch in 3 months, with a lofty goal: the moon.

"We realize the concerns many would have with sending another manned shuttle into space - we had concerns ourselves. That's why we've spent eight months analyzing the problems of the ESS-2. We have fixed these problems, we have [improved] upon the design, and we have taken extra measures to ensure the safety of our astronauts."

The identities of the future crewmen of the ESS-3 have not been released yet, nor have images or design schematics of the space shuttle.

Under intense pressure by the Eredron government, the Eredron Space and Exploration Agency has released details of their plans for the lunar colony, which Eredron's top scientists have been working on for over five months with the aid of international cooperation.

Concept Photo of the Lunar Base

The Eredron space program, which has so far cost over nine hundred billion Marks, received a boost in funding and public support after a successful moon landing. Seeking to capitalize on this, Consul Supreme Drakes hurriedly created the Lunar Base Initiative, seeking to begin work on an Eredron moon colony by the end of the decade.

Although detailed schematics and information remains classified, ESEA has confirmed the base, as currently designed, will initially have the capability to house ten astronauts for two months, self-sustained. They will receive energy from stored batteries, as well as solar panels.

Concept Photo of the Inter-Relay Communications System

The base will be able to remain in constant communication with Earth through the IRCS, which will also monitor the condition of the base, as well as the astronauts housed within.

Although an Eredron lunar colony is still years away, each day it becomes closer to a reality.

The ESEA has announced it has begun working on components and segments of Eredron's first lunar colony, designated EC-1, in the ESEA facilities at Danfalls.

The moon base, expected to be roughly 600 sq. ft in size, will be assembled in space through several space shuttle launches before being grounded on the lunar surface. Solar panels will provide the primary source of energy for the crew of 7 that the base will initially be able to support, as well as the laboratory and telescope to be housed within.

Further information to follow.

James Allard sprinted through the streets of Eredron. It has been five years since the disastrous battle against the Hordes, resulting in the death of his older brother. Now, James has forsaken his life as a mercenary and has become oddly enough a private investigator in Eredron. Four months earlier, James Allard had picked up a job from one of the widows of the astronauts killed aboard ESS-2, to find out if there was a government coverup. As time passed, James became convinced that the Eredron Space Agency was trying to cover something up, something extremely sinister. Resolved to get to the bottom of the coverup, James pulled some strings and landed with an interview with the chief manager of the Eredron Manned Lunar Program.

For a moment, Colonel Jones looked puzzled; he quickly remembered the interview he had agreed to participate in, and smiled. "Ah, Mr. Allard; come in, please. I'm always happy to answer any questions about this great space program."

He leaned back, eyeing Allard cautiously. Of course, I can assure both you and Mrs. Albrecht, the crash was caused by a malfunction, as was announced."

After a brief video stream showing the astronauts of ESS-11 in space working on the lunar base, the Director announced the project was on budget and ahead of schedule, and had proceeded without delay once the project was resumed following the missile strikes at the launch site.

Even as construction continues on the expanding lunar base, as the last of the Inter-Relay Comm. Satellites was placed in orbit, ambitious plans continue to come out of the research facilities in Danfalls, from the minds of ESEA's brightest.

Seeking ways to reduce the cost of space launches, engineers have designed a series of improved space vehicles and submitted them to the Senate and Consul.

Among them is the EXS-1, a "space plane" that will take off as a traditional plane, reaching its maximum altitude before using a rocket booster to break out into space.

Also included is the EXR, a small vehicle designed to fit inside the EXS-1's internal bay, and act as a space taxi, shuttling men and material to the lunar surface; this is a vast improvement over current protocol, which calls for a lengthy transition from shuttle to the moon.

EXS-1

If approved, the ESEA estimates it will be three years before the EXS-1 could be launched.

Applauding the efforts of the Eredron Space & Exploration Agency, the Consul of the Republic announced this morning plans for nearly thirty civilians to inhabit the lunar colony for a two month period and become the first non-ESEA personnel to do so.

In his bi-yearly address to the Senate, the Consul outlined the progress of the lunar colony thus far, and the space agency's continued exploration of the solar system; among the ESEA's future projects is the launching of seventeen deep space probes, continued expansion of the lunar colony and the addition of over a square mile of above and underground fuel and supply depots, a runway and a space vehicular storage area.

Currently, the moon colony is capable of sustaining twenty inhabitants for seven months; the ESEA hopes to triple this capacity before the decade is out.
