The Armed Republic of Great Mateo unveiled the result of a years long joint military construction project with the Federation of the Eternal Flame during a large opening ceremony at the presidential mansion today, ending speculation over what the long gossiped about 'Project Ember' truly was. FEF President Reiko Hidama was absent from the day's events, as he was busy with a similar ceremony in his own nation.

From the stage on which GM President Teo McGrath gave his speech today, the only portion of the new facility visible is a series of massive blast doors in the hills around and behind the presidential mansion. Details given during the ceremony, however, reveal the complex to be much more than just an underground bunker. Centered around three major hubs under Teo, the port city of St. Thome's, and Ft. Zom, Project Ember spans most of the nation. Each hub is in essence a small subterranean city and military base, with housing areas and supplies to support upwards of a million people. The hubs are heavily fortified, with a series of nuclear blast doors blocking each entrance in from the surface. Connecting each of the hubs is a series of fortified underground tunnels, each with several high speed, heavy cargo mag lev trains running back and forth between the hubs. A seperate line from the largest hub under the capital runs northeast, connection the GM controlled portion with FEF and the FEF controlled portion of Project Ember. Branching off from these lines are other various tunnels and exits to the surface that allows troops and military supplies to be transported acroos the country rapidly and to the surface without leaving them vulnerable to attack. Built into the upper levels of these rail lines and branches are many defense areas consisting mainly of AA and missile launch facilities. Three underground airbases are also under construction as well, each designed to house a wing of airplanes consisting of three squadrons. The complex also encompasses a series of hardened sub docks in the city of St. Thome's. Provisions have been made to expand the complex even further over time, with hubs near or under other cities and\or towns.

According to the press release given out by the GM government, construction began shortly after Great Mateo's founding. Originally planned to be a massive series of interconnected hubs spanning the entire region of the Reformed Alcardian States, construction of a GM and FEF only facility began when tensions with other nations in the region began to rise. With construction finally nearing completion, estimated final costs are now in the hundreds of billions.

The completion of this project has caused a great deal of Turmoil within GM. Several large protests were staged today by citizens furious with the government over keeping such a huge, financially demanding project secret. "There is no need for such a thing as this 'Project Ember'," says Teo resident Beth Kapler. "Our nation has been at peace since its creation and has no enemies. To spend such a huge portion of the hard earned cash we have taken away by taxes is absurd! This is just another step in the government's plan to turn us into a totally militaristic nation."

Other citizens are much warmer to the idea. "I love it!,"exclaims Seargent J.P. Lewis (ret), as resident of the northern city of Kartha. "Our nation is now nigh invincible in the event of a full scale invasion, something every country should strive for in this day of constant global violence. Just look at what Reformed Alcardia did (referring to the opression and booting of several nations from the RAS by the Alcardian government after its leader, Nicholas Everdale, went insane), what if they had decided to attack as well? I feel much safer now that the government has invested in something like this."

President of the FEF, Reiko Hidama turned off the TV and looked to his advisors. "Seems like Teo has gone insane, there is no Project Ember in the FEF."
