ITD Nation News: In a surprise turn of events the nation government has revealed an assassination attempt on the president and permanent dictator of the ITD. Earlier reports had said that the president had been killed, but we now know these rumors to be false. Government officials have not been forthcoming with any further information regarding the attempt on the president’s life, but they have made it quite clear that those responsible will be punished most severely. The ITD, in accordance with laws passed earlier in the year, has made several attempts at calming any political unrest, but these attempts have been met with strong resistance. Dissident factions have made several terrorist structures in the nations underground. These structures, at least the ones the ITD knows about, have been destroyed and their inhabitants paraded on the national networks, beaten on air and then killed. Although no connection between the assassination attempt and these terrorist factions have been found, the government is looking into all possibilities.

In other news: The recent world anniversary has led to thousands of arrests. Government Security Secretary Mikael Romult has asked citizens to "...remain calm and to go about their business. There is nothing to be concerned about..." All of those arrested have been placed into slavery in accordance with federal law.

<President of the ITD> The attempt on my life was blown out of proportion. There was no attempt persae, but a known dissident was captured on the premises and placed under arrest. He had a weapon, but never got a shot off.

<President of the ITD> Yes, I do not understand why people dislike the way things are going. The economy has never been better and our national defenses are top notch!
<Reporter> Well... political freedoms are very few... perhaps the dissidents are angry about the lack of civil rights in ITD?

Todays ITD News: The government has announced the capture of the terrorist member who has been accused of the attempted assasination of the President. Government officials, after a careful review of the facts an information regarding the capture, have made the following statement to the press:

"The culprit, who will not be named at this time, was a known terrorist affiliate that the government has been observing for some time. He was captured in the Sector 12B, the capital, after an extensive search of his home. The official reason for the search of his home will not be discussed."

No official word regarding the condition of the prisoner has been released. The President was not available to comment.

The ITD urges every other nation to vote against the Freedom for All amendment. This amendment would take away the rights of the international leaders to control their citizens.

A recent report on internal corruption and inefficient governing practices has prompted the President to make the following decree.

"I, being your supreme ruler and leader, have made a serious decision. ITD will no longer have a legislative body. The National Senate has angered me because of their mocking and sarcastic attitude toward my laws. All Senators have been arrested, and will be put on trial for corruption and treason. If I hear one more report of rogue politicians mocking and disobeying laws, which have been legally signed into being, I.... well I wont be responsible for my actions."

This response was prompted by the Senate's recent overrule of several of the Presidents laws. The Senate had also dismissed several bills, which the President himself had written.

The ITD Secretary of Agriculture & Interior, Son Bosman, announced earlier today the plans to uproot the majority of the [remaining] national rainforests in order to harvest the very rich uranium deposits found there.

"We are one of the world’s new nuclear powers; as such we must remain competitive. These deposits mean more jobs and money for the nation."

Several groups have already called foul over the plans to mine the forests, but these groups were quickly dispersed with machine gun fire from a riot control patrol.

Riots broken out earlier this morning as the President announced plans to sell nuclear weaponry to several know foreign nations. The riots centered in the capital, Sector 12B. The announcement came as a shock to the evil liberal minded people of the capital, and their true colors were shown as the riot patrol guards sprayed the crowds with capcaicin, the active ingredient in pepper spray. The crowds were then beaten to death and their bodies burned; Film at 11.

The leaders of the state religion, which changed every so often to suit our gracious and all knowing president, who has given us so much to live and be proud about, and who would never harm a reporter's family for the sake of making a point..... has announced that, while christmas is canceled this year, a new holiday "President Day" will be celebrated by everyone. All workers will recieve a 15 minute break, they will report to their designated lunch halls, and they will be given a small, unflavored, rice square. Then they will be sent back to work, and work 15 minutes past their scheduled dismissal times.

<Kim> Cannibals clashed with local health food activists today as the government decided not to allow the flesh of the citizenry as a food supplement. This decision raised concern among cannibal groups, who cited the decision as "a blatant and obvious attempt to discriminate against our peaceful and well meaning people". Health food activists praised the decision based on the fact that human flesh contains too much sodium for a well balanced diet.

<Jim> What with the population being well over 700 million, many people are wondering just how much more bigger can the nation get. Professor Johan VonBankterbraten from the University of Sector 12B is here to talk to us about this problem.

<Professor> Thank you, Jim and Kim, I am a big fan.

<Kim> It's not hard being a big fan when you are the only news network in the nation.

<Jim> Correct, Kim. Now, Professor. Is the population too big???

<Professor> Well, you have to look as several points to determine whether the population is too big. First, can we feed all these people?

<Kim> Can we?

<Professor> Yes, if they do their share of the work. Larger nations always have the problem of feeding the citizenry, but if each individual does their fair share then I don’t see why this would be a problem.
The next problem would have to be housing, can the nation house the people. This was covered earlier, and is being met with the tall living structures. The government is obviously taking care of this.

<Jim> All they have to do is find the money to build them, which by the way, the poll is back in. It seems a 53 percent majority think that the government should pay for it with their own money. 2 percent thinks that big business should pay for it, and the 45 percent thinks that the people should pay for it.

<Professor> The government will just increase taxes, its what it does best.

<Kim> Sure is, Professor. I paid 80 percent of my yearly wages in taxes last year. It seems everyday the tax rate is different.

<Jim> Well, continue Professor.

<Professor> The third and final problem would be finding work for the new citizens. As the minimum working age decreases, and the population increases, we will need to find jobs for all these new people. This wont be easy.
<Kim> They could always join the military.

<Jim> Well, they can't be news anchors, those positions are filled
