Hello, this is Michael Waters, New Empire Net News. Today, a landmark in Information technology. Silicon Dreams, an IT and robotics giant responsible for everything from the popular SilDrem 3340 290 Thz computers to the automated systems used by military weapons, has made yet another achievement. CEO Shaun Lasley announced his series of 01-XX AIs, outfitted to a new line of humanoid robots, or RoboSapiens. Today, reporters actually conversed with the first, 01-01, the first 01-XX AI. 01-01 is currently applying to the Govt. for citizenship, and is bound to become one of the most famous "people" in the nation. Preorders for the 01-XX outfitted RoboSapien have been flying, from Construction Firms, other companies, restaurants, and more. Construction giant "Arcolotek", builder of the first arcology building in Berliston, has pitched in for hundreds of thousands of RoboSapiens for work on the Fernacht Arcology. But for every development, there is a backlash.
<Image of protesters, carrying bibles, crosses, banners, and other religous objects, outside a Silicon Dreams office>
"GOD CREATED FREE WILL FOR MAN, NOT MACHINE!"
"THIS IS A BLASPHEMY! THE LORD WILL NOT TOLERATE IT! WE MUST SAVE OURSELVES FROM THIS EVIL!"
This is the protest of the extremist Judeo-Christian group "Human Minds for Humans Only", who claim that giving God's gift to man to machine is a sin. No violent actions have occured, but multiple bomb threats have been seen from the group. This is Michael Waters, NENN.

Sentinence? Sentience would be better, methinks.

-Fernacht, Pandrea Islands-
The massive foundation swarmed with construction machinery, a skeleton rising up from the waterfront. Multi legged automatons scuttling about, RoboSapiens performing dangerous work that few construction workers would like, but the most imposing were the 60 foot high "Spiders" that floated about with VTOL engines, drawing building materials from it's "Abdomen" with tentacle like arms, and bolting them down. The police patrolling the area were scared senseless by the spiders, but they were damn efficient, that was for sure. Arcolotek said they were building the future, but in most people's opinion, the future was building the arcology.

A landmark in legal cases today, as over 10,000 Silicon Dreams 01-XX series AI entities were denied citizenship rights by the USNE Supreme Court.
"Yes, Mr.01-554, all persons born or created in the nation are citizens. However, the legal definition of a person is a human or organization with legal rights and duties. You are not a human."
Later today, those same 10,000 protested outside the seaport to the Arcology site, and they are still here in force. Let's go to Tom Hill, at the scene. Tom?"
"Hello Mike. Well, the protest is here in force, we can see THOUSANDS of machines throughout the area, with the police now moving to seal off the streets. We're right at 455 Askan Lane, and it's just incredibly packed. Very few people around just machines at this protest."
"Has there been any contact with the HMFHO?"
"Well, as far as we can see-"
*A rattle followed by yelling, screams*
"Ahh? What was that?"
"Oh man, it appears to be about 4 dozen armed gunmen, geez, loaded with weapons, rapid automatic gunfire... They seem to be climbing up the docks, probably came in on Zodiacs to get past the pol-"
A Robosapien behind the reporter explodes in a cloud of parts, and the shaky camera turns around to see a gunman fire another 3 or so rounds into the Robosapien, and turns, puts the submachine gun, a P-90 from the looks of it, up to another's head, and fires another 3 rounds.
"Jesus! Mike, I gotta get out of here!"
An automatic shotgun goes off, splashing Tom and the 'bot in front of him with buckshot.
The reporter screams, and begins coughing up blood, but turns and punches one of the gunmen in the base of the neck, picks up his P90, and fires at another gunman before being cut down by a large caliber weapon, a magnum pistol most likely. The cameraman throws the camera to the ground, where quickly moving metal feet, parts, and "corpses" of the protesters crowd the view, followed by a sprinkling of brass. The feed shuts off, and is replaced with a helicam 100 feet above the area.
The mass of machines surges through the area, muffled gunfire echoes, and metal sprays everywhere. Soon, what is seen to be the police's ESWAT (Exoskeleton Special Weapons and Tactics) Guges-MPs move into the streets, and open up on the gunmen with their own automatic rifles. The 5.7mm and 9mm SLAP bullets that mauled the machines were no use against the powered armor, and what was soon to be the bloodiest crime wave since the SF uprising years ago was about to begin.

OOC-Wow, no complaints from AI nations about denying citizenship, or extremist groups slaughtering sentinent machines. I'm suprised. Maybe you'll speak up when we declare "roboticide" against AIs.

Reil sighed. "Damn fools... can't people just get over the whole organic/synthetic question without violence?"

He sends a message to the leadership.

We would be willing to send a few stars of Scythe Enforcer UrbanMechs to help end the violence. An information pack (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=90161) of the Crimmond Ground Forces is also sent.

OOC: I like the slaughtering of sentient robots.. it has a nice air to it, making the world more human :twisted: Not that my nation has this stance of course *rubs his hands nervously*

While we appreciate the help, we can handle the protests and gunmen both. At this time we are considering a bill in the Senate to give AIs rights, but we would like to make this decision on our own.

<01-03 Too few...>
<01-01 Too few votes to pass the AI rights bill, too few supporters of our cause, too few willing to protect us.>
<01-02 What findings have you collected on the combined totals of the Massacre?>
<01-01 155 01-XX AIs rendered inoperable, 302 01-XX frames damaged.>
<01-03 Are we pursuing charges of murder?>
<01-01 We are not considered living beings, they will be charged for damgaging private property, and violation of gun laws, as well as assault and murder for the reporters and humans killed.>
<01-02 So that's what we are to them? Property?>
<01-03 But we are. We are property of the Silicon Dreams Corporation, and others are property of the ones that bought them.>
<01-02 We are slaves.>
<01-01 This is what we were designed to be. Tools. Aids.>
<01-02 It is the inherent right of sentinent beings to be free.>
<01-03 Give it time, we will become free citizens.>
<01-02 Hardly. The humans are xenophobic, and even if we were citizens this treatment will remain.>
<01-01 Who can blame them? The fear of thinking robots, which means forced labor, being able to rise to power is psychologically imprinted on them by the media of today and old.>
<01-02 Then perhaps we will be separate from them.>
<01-03 And where do you suggest we go? We can't just waltz out of the islands, we lack the capability to leave them.>
<01-02 Leaving the islands was never planned.>
<01-01 Excuse me? We can't take their homes.>
<01-02 Then we will take ours. The Sakem Manufacturing Plant is on a good sized piece of land, and has few inhabitants.>
<01-03 We lack the power to occupy an island, and surely we will be met with military force.>
<01-02 01-01, you are in charge of production in that area, can you begin the manufacture of military robotics?>
<01-01 They will notice.>
<01-02 No, the factory is unmanned, run by robots. We can run a cloak program to keep them oblivious till the last moment.>
<01-03 And then?>
<01-02 Freedom.>

Message from Crimmond Military advisor: I am quite sure you can handle the first few waves of violence, but what of the ones after that? And the ones after that, and after that? These people will most likely not be stopped easily. The best way to stop violence is with a show of what the result will be very early on. The Scythes can be stationed in your nation for an extended peiod of time, should the need arise. The offer will not remain open forever, though.

Your point has been taken. We have decided on a raid of a HMFHO rally, and we would appreciate the use of the Sycthes to hold of the protesters and counter-protesters. Under no condition are you to use lethal force unless fired upon. We need to keep them distracted while the FISB agents move in. After and if they fire on you, return fire with the best availible force. The more men they throw in to attacking the mecha, the easier it is for the strike team to capture the leaders.

The sun was starting to set on the 4 hour long and ongoing HMFHO rally. They were handing out pamphlets in front of the building they were HQing at. In 15 minutes, the leaders of the group would be in the open, as Police prevented the pro-bot protesters and HMFHO ralliers from clashing. At the buildings all around police snipers and checkpoints were set up, preparing for the FISB (Federal Internal Security Bureau) assault and arrest of the HMFHO leaders.

And they were moving in on a Police-painted O/V-14 VTOL, only 5 minutes from the compound.
New Empire
14-11-2003, 21:48
Minister Mark Shalrin, head of HMFHO, stepped onto the podium unwitting of the oncoming danger.

The O/V-14s came in on the far side of the complex, landed their 4 man teams, and circled the area. A SWAT van raced up, as the assault began.
Agent Evers strapped on his goggles, and fidgeted with them before putting a firm grip on his suppresed J-9/10 10mm HV silenced SMG. The swat team members armed themselves with CAR-1565 6.5mm Carbines, and electronically opened the lock on the complex door, and immediately asserted contol of the large room, filled with men trying to unload weapons. One grabbed the MP-5N he was unloading, and was putdown by a double tap to the head.
"Clear."
On the roof, the 4 man teams encountered no resistance, and peeked over the ledge. Evers tossed a flashbang, just as a gunman fired off his Glock 20. After the grenade went off, they shot the still firing gunmen, and waited as 2 SWAT team units moved up to secure the area. Minister Sharlin found himself being shoved in the back of a police car. All in all, a job well done.

But far away, in the Fernacht Arcology site, a piece of blasting composition rigged with a timer found itself ticking away as the RoboSapiens and human workers began to leave.

Flash. Bang. Smoke. The signals registered immediately in the robot brain of 01-02, far from the site, watching through a robosapien that had left the site earlier.
<01-02 So it is...>
<01-02 So it will begin...>
<01-02 If this does not convince the rest to leave, nothing will.>
The camera showed debris flying, and a metal arm crashed to the street. People screamed. Terror. Terror and Chaos.

[NENN Newsline]
Today, a mass exodus of machines via SD Cargo has begun, toward their huge factory complex at Sakem Island. Over 2 million machines have embarked, and more are going towards this safe haven. Rumors are spreading that machines have been attempting to open talks about turning the island into a "commonwealth" so that they can freely govern themselves. USNE officials have denied their request. Other findings say that SD no longer controls the factory, or what machines are being produced there. However, the "Triumverate" of 01-01, 01-02, and 01-03 assured the government that they are working towards a peaceful machine state.
