Spains rise back to its old glory.

10-11-2003, 18:34
For about 300 years, Spain has been a quiet, small nation, very uninvolved with World Wars and world politics. However, recently, Spain has become more vocal about its opinions, its citizens seem to have rekindled the glory of old spain. Intrigued by Spains recent citizen motivation, Portugal has decided to become one nation with spain. Spain is on its way back to the top of the world.

Nazi Germany II sneers at spain, knowing some large nation will eventually annex them, either that or their economy will collapse once again.

Hm. I struggle to believe that Portugal would go for that.. they do have a fairly proud and illustrious history and culture of their own.. but.. oh well.

Given up the Euro too, I see. Seems like a hassle after both nations were already using the same, reasonably strong currency.

Plus Latin America could kick Iberia's backside ;)

....By which I mean to say "Walmington extends its baffled congratulations to the united Iberian people, and hopes that they will enjoy the enclosed fruit-basket and fine diplomatic gold-tipped fountain pen.

"Keep your mitts off the rock though, eh?"
Esamopia

This too comes to Esamopians as a surprise, though a mild and unimportant one considering the chaos and maddness in the world... at any rate:

"Esamopia congratulates this historic union between Spain and Portugal and hopes for peaceful relations and free trade to continue between our great peoples."

My nation was built off the embers of the Spanish Civil War in 2004 (yea I RP'ed it...its in my nation's history thread somewhere on these boards)... and since I didn't take all of Spain to start my empire (I dont have my empire on the geography of Europe) I am pleased to see my grand father's homeland rise up again!

We will support you the entire way and protect you against all foes!.

The USSP thanks the nations who congratulated them, But sends a warning out to Nazi Germany.

DGNT congratulates S&P on their rise back onto the world stage, and offers it protection in the form of a defensive alliance, in case those such as Nazi Germany act against it, DGNTs extensive AMM system will protect it from nuclear strikes, and our army and navy will aide in protecting its ports, or, if you so desire, we can keep our troops in DGNT and move when somebody invades you.

The Empire of North Germania has already given a gift to the USSP as a sign of friendship, but congratulates it still on its unification.

The Kingdom of Crookfur isn't entirely happy with the idea of a spain that tries to shake the world again as they have some histroical issues with imperial spain (being the (secret) sister colony to the Darius expadition (scottish colony in the americas, in what is now panama i think) they were quite annoyed at spain's strangling and general abusing of the fledgling colony).

ps: and no Crookfur isn't in latin america (or the NS analogue) its on a series of island just at the north of the gulfstream in the mid atlantic (located just off the main shipping routes), originally peopled by 3 main groups: vikings, then a bunch of very lost knights templar/ hospitlars and finally by a secret expendition from scotland in the 1600s and then further migration from the UK as a whole over the 18th and 19th centuries.

(So something did come of Scotland bankrupting itself after all? (I mean, besides the UK) 's interesting, Crookfur..

AD 1490s- British (primarily English Protestant) explorers, possibly seeking the new world (some say Welshmen or Bristol fish merchants discovered the Americas) make land-fall on the north Atlantic island now called Walmington on Sea.
1520- Early Walmingtonian explorers continue west, making land-fall in the Americas.
1531/2- Walmingtonian expeditions harras Pizarro during his victorious march on the Inca.
1530s onwards- Walmington cheats death in continued badgering of Spanish imperial enterprises. Several times harbours English vessels on commerce raids against Spain.
1717- Ancient apparently Nordic (Panteran? ) ruins discovered in Norbray, northern WoS.
-extracts taken from A Concise History of Walmington on Sea- Adrift in the Atlantic, published by Black Gull.

It appears that our people have one or two things in common way back.. and we too have cause to be a bit nervous about the Spanish rise..)

Walmington on Sea: indeed (of course on the NS world i think the north atlantic is full of island nations).

It is interesting to note that during the 1200s and earlier, english and scottish fishing fleets were a common feature on the coast of north america (the main reason the pilgrim fahters survived was because the indians (very non pc i know) could speak a good bit of english and were rahter friendly with the fishermen and bird trappers who spent a good section of each year camping in that area...)
