The Road Not Taken (Space, Modern, Past RP)
With a crash the Warfleet burst out of hyperspace, Captain Hunkeers rolling over to vomit off the side of his bed.
A messenger came running through the barracks a second later, announcing it to all those who hadn't yet realized the obvious, "We're back in space! All hands to their stations!"
"Damn pilots, they should warn us before they do that!"
He makes his way to the viewroom, taking cautious steps as he regains his equilibrium and attemtps not to stumble over the dim objects barely seen in the Glofly light. Once there he asks for an immediete report.
"There are 12 planets in the system. The outer 5 are all gas, but the inner 7 might show some promise."
"Good, light up the lanterns, we need to organize the fleet. Once the head Warmaster gives the signal, move the ship in towards the closest solid planet."
OOC:
Okay, this is based on a short story I read. FTL travel (at least as this species has it) is extremely simple. Humanity could have stumbled upon it at any point in history. These people did, and most of their scientific advancement was in that area. Everything else stagnated, except for the FTL they are amazingly technologically primitve.
They are currently at about 17'th century technology. Front loading, single shot muskets. No electricty (hence they use Gloflies to light their ships. Think big fireflies), no cars, no computers. No advancement of any kind. However, they have FTL travel, and have formed quite an extensive Empire across the Galaxy.
This RP will be about the encountering different nations of different time periods. We'll get some space nations to meet some of their ships. Some modern nations who maybe had their probes stumbled upon (we've sent a bunch out in real). And some past nations to have their planets visited.
Remember, they have FTL but that's it.
I'm interested. I have an 8 planet system, the last four planets are gas, and the 3rd is the most habitable, although I just recently hired another nation to adjust the orbit on the fourth to make the equatorial region of it habitable. I'll give you more info on my nation after your answer.
((OOC: I'm game, but for now, I'm going to <tag> this till I see an opening))

OOC: Neat idea. I think this fleet showing up in my New-New Jersey System (see region "Cspallan Space") would be interesting. Its a system of 4 planets, all gas giants. New-New Jersey is a habital moon of the fourth, and they mine the giants. Its on the each of our space, fairly lawless, and "a wretched hive of scum and villanry."

OOC:*Notes*Coool.Ill have a shot at it.
Commander Shi'ert stood on the bridge of the patrol group flagships, the Frigate Treker II. Flanked on either side by destroyers, he scanned the system, hoping to find traces of life to trade with. Something registered on his console, anouther ship. . . no, several of them.
"Coms, open hailing frequencies with those ships, see if you can get a responce."
"Aye sir."
"take us closer, shields to diplomatic levels, all crews, go to phase two alert, prep the scouts for launch."
OOC: I can play any. I have a good picture of Future, Modern, and Past Xanthal, though all I play is Future Xanthal. I'll let you decide which, if any, you want to meet.

Actually, I wouldn't mind playing an alien race. My nations histroy is documented here (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=90987), and during that time we sent a huge chryoship Called Oman'Zee out into space. It has yet to bee heard from again, and this may be the time for it to emerge. :P I'll RP through that puppet, (700+ million) if you like.
ooc: I feel stupid. What's FTL?

(OOC: FTL = Faster than Light (generally travel))
The ships of the fleet begin to organize themselves, the head Warmaster's ship leading the way. As they head inward towards the 5 solid planets Captain Hunkeers continues to lurk in the Mapmakers room. He's willing to put up with the constant complaints from the viewers over the low quality of their spyglasses, since by being there he is able to be bathed in constant light from the systems sun, rather than the feeble glow from the cages of Gloflies.
"Lantern signal from the Warmasters ship!"
(These guys don't have radio, they use flashing lights to communicate between ships)
"What are they saying?"
"There's a group of objects floating in front of us."
"Any sign of Hypertech?" (the ability to detect other constructions using their type of FTL is the only advanced technology they have)
"No traces."
"Well, then. Some asteroids. The Goddess Reva tests us."
"No, they're moving in a group. They must be working together."
"Odd. The Gods have something working here. Unleash a broadside."
At that, the 20 ships of the Warfleet spin on their sides and fire a broadside into the lead ship.
OOC: What sort of weapons are these? From how you described them, I'm thinking cannons, and what are their ships hulls made of and what do they look like?
"mark two fiv. . . FACK!! SHEILDS!!!" bellowed the radar opperator, the HEPD fields coming on line as the shells struck. The Hutchison Effect fields flashed with each blow. The shields faultered as the last of the blasts hit, the armor ringing as the shots hit it, glancing off harmlessly.
"sir. . . that was. . incoming hostile fire from the ships, but it looked primative. . . suggestions?"
"fire a warning shot at them, get one of the laser cannons and fire a warning shot, minimum power."
the frigate's port weapons battery warmed up, and as the craft flipped around, firing a single laser burst against the nearest ship.
"Bring us in, and prepare boarding crafts, shields to full. Dispatch those scouts and get a look at what we are up against.
* * * * *
The two destroyers, Alpha Blue and Beta Blue detatched the Crossbow class scout/interceptors, the agile craft shooting off to scout the ships ahead, pilots preped to take on incoming fire or interceptors.

OOC, and probably out of place: Oo... someone else uses HPDs! This is almost as exciting as finding out that someone else used Alcubierre drives!
((OOC: yeah, bought them from you a while back, eternaly useful things, as our absortion matrixes only stop energy and heat based attacks, we need our HEPD fields for physical shots and meteors.))
OOC: Their guns are cannons. Gunpowder, metal balls, one shot every 10 minutes, etc. Their hulls are the strongest metal the we had in the 17'th century (I'm not sure what metals we had back then). I'm thinking Iron, possibly steel (but I don't think we had it yet)
IC:
The "low power" laser shot rips straight through the hull of the Warmasters ship. Slowly, the Indomitable begins to spin out of control and drift out of formation.
"What kind of devils are these? Witchcraft!"
"The Spymasters report incoming ships!"
"How? How can they move without Hypertech?"
"They must be demons, selling their souls for power. We must repel them!"
"Yes, unleash another broadside! Prepare the troops! We must repel the borders!"
"woops. . . Um Captian, it looks like these ships are cardboard through and through. . . "
"hmm, I feel bad about pummeling them from afar. . . any signs of communcations from them?"
"Negative, just some odd flashes of lights. . . perhaps old Morse code?"
"Worth a try, put shields up to full and flash the running lights a few times, see if that gets thier attention."

UPN ISV The 3 Feathers, home of the Jeeves Class A.I known as Charlie to his friends, mentally blinked mildly. Either his sensors were in severe need of calibration, or the strange looking vessels had just shot cannon in space. He idly coasted closer, fascination practically emanating from his hull, this being a lot more interesting than cataloguing this fairly dull Sol-Variant system. He glided to a halt well out of the calculated range of the unimpressive laser the group of vessels he'd designated Beta had deployed and gradually slid his sensors up to the maximum power he could maintain whilst cloaked, then settled down to watch.
Charlie was something of an oddity among Jeeves Class A.I in that he was a betting sentient. So he started calculating the odds for each side, while considering the implications of deploying cannon on a starship..
OOC: I can see that there's already a large future tech audience here, so I'll use Past Xanthal. Klonor, let me know when you want me to come in.
How about right now? These alien dudes are gonna be trashed in space, but they'd be on equal ground (almost) against a past nation.
IC:
"Lantern flashes!"
"Where? Which ship knows how to fight these devils?"
"None! It's one of the demon ships!"
"A trick! They are trying to confuse us! We must capture their ships! Send one of the ships to attempt to board them, we need to revenge the Warmaster!"
"I'm sure they say us comming," the Alien Technologies
Officer persisted. "Do you see the cube, sir?"
The silvery image of the enemy ship almost filled the viewer.
"Of course I see it," said the Captain.
"It was moving when we first picked them up. it stopped when we got within two
hundred thousand miles, and it hasn't moved since."
"You worry me," he commented.
"If they know we're here, why haven't they tried to get away?
Are they so sure sure they can beat us?"
He whirled to face the A-T Officer.
"Should we be running?"
"No, sir! I don't know why they're still here, but they can't have anything to be confident about.
That's one of the most primitive spacecraft I've ever seen"
He moved his claw about on the screen, pointing as he talked.
"nothing sir, they haven't responded"
"very well, prepare boarders, we'll attach to that striken ship and enter, maybe we'll be able to interagate on of the survivors. . ." He turned to the coms system, speaking through the entire craft. "All marines to pressure suits, then prepare for boarding actions."
A flurry of movement errupted on the Frigate, as marrines streamed from all areas to equip themselves for boarding. Private Yammamoto put on his armor, slipping into the crystal matrixed suits of polymer, and grabbed his weapons, a small assault rifle and a couple of grenades. He looked over the rest of his squad, likwise armored and armed.
"sir, permision to speak, sir"
"granted son"
"what type of static defences can we expect inside?"
"hell if I know, we are marked for primary entry, so this could get nasty."
"understood sir, should we pack blades?" He pointed to the katana that hung above each bunk, the traditional weapon of Taka, wich every Takian youth was trained to use since they day they could walk.
"yes, you never konw what we are going to run into, We'll be entering sixy strong. . . ." He looked over intelegence reports of the ships "I pray we all make it back"
* * * * *
The four interceptors reached the ship, still trying in vain to hail anyone inside. They slipped around the ship, scanning it for electrical impulses, weapons systems, targeting computers, or AI programs. . . Nothing. . . not even electrical lights were registering. . . One of the pilots noted a large segment of what appeared to be glass at the front of the ship, and moved over to inspect it, being wary to stay well away from the cannons.
OOC: Are they flitting around the ship that you destroyed, or one of the still existing ones?
((OOC: one of the still running ones. I guess they wouldn't departmentalize thier ships, would tehy? ie, depressurize on part depressurizes them all.))
OOC: Yup, the ship that you killed is kaput, nobody left alive.
IC:
One of the Takian interceptors flashes past the view plate (the glass that was seen in the previous post), much to the bewilderment of the pilot beyond it.
"Sukil be Praised! They really do have flight!"
"yes, but how?"
"I don't know. They seem to be moving a bigger vessel over to us."
"Reload the cannons! We must not fail!"
"They're coming to fast, we wont be able to reload by the time they get here!"
"Then we'll fight them abord ship! Send out the messengers to all ship sections, ready the arms! I want rounds and powder distributed to every man aboard!"
OOC: Okay, here's the setup for you.
IC: The year is 1850. The Xanthalian continent is unadvanced; guns are rare, and katanas are the standard combat tool for warriors. The feudal state of Shi'in Ra has begun it's campaign of expansion and controls over half the continent. There are no large cities in Xanthal, just small to medium towns. The capital is the largest of them, Emperor Shan II leading Shi'in Ra from inside the walls of his palace. The archetecture of the continent is very much in the style of feudal Japan and China, a sign of the inhabitants' ancestry. Nobody knows it now, but the continent of Xanthal is just a century away from unification under the state of Shi'in Ra and the most rapid technological advances ever witnessed on planet Earth. For now though, the war rages on in the borderlands as the peasants plough the fields.

OOC: Can I join?
OOC: Neat. I'll have another Warfleet stumble upon your planet
IC:
With a crash the Warfleet burst forth from Hyperspace, First Gunner Gyrot leaning forward to vomit into his dinner plane.
"Damn pilots, they should warn us before doing that!"
He ignores the messenger that runs through shouting the news, instead shaking the hand can of Gloflies, rousing them from their slumber and increasing the dull glow to a feeble flicker. During the brief light caused by their alarm he check each of his four pistols (two in hip holsters, two in his boots), making sure they're all armed. This is the 4'th system that they'd visited, and if they don't find a habitable planet they might not make it back to the homeworld. The air was already growing stale and foul.
(these guys don't have the tech to store air or clean it, like we do in modern day submarines. They seal up their ships and live on the air that was trapped inside.)
Abruptly, a new messenger comes running through the ship, shputing a different message
"Planet found! A habitable planet has been found!"
Gyrot was overjoyed for more than just the possibility of fresh air, he was itching for a little action. It had been long since they'd added another planet to the Empire.
The ships of the fleet speed towards the unsuspecting planet
OOC: Can I join?
Sure, welcome aboard

OOC: Xanthal, do you mind if I have people on your planet?
5CN: Well, "my" planet is NS Earth (obviously, since that's where Xanthal was founded), so I don't have a problem with it. I'm sure lots of people are on Earth.
IC: Everyday life continues in Xanthal, the inhabitants completely unaware of their impending rendezvous with beings from another planet.
Five Civilized Nations

OOC: The Aza Empire that I refer to in this RP is the precursor of the 5CN...
IC: It was dusk. The people of the Aza Empire went back home exhausted from the day's work. The Aza Empire was the amalgation of five races, humans, dragons, dwarves, elves, and orcs. The second to last Dragonlord, Hisk Talisk, stood on the balcony of one of the towers of his Citadel and glances up, startled at the brilliant lights sparkling that were appearing in the sky. Immediately, he called forth an army and prepared to investigate the lights.
The pilot of the interceptor flashed his lights, sending a bright beam into the interior. He turned on his helmet lights to cut down the glare, and so the man outlined could make out his face. With hand signals he indicated that he was not hostile, or hoped thats what he was indicating anyways.
* * * * * *
The three craft gunned sublights, streaking towards the craft, leaving an ion vapor trail behind them. They moved along side the nearest ship, and clameped the magnetic locks, sealing the airlock to do a pressurized entrance.
Free Pacific States

OOC: Taka, you mind if I have my group on one of the planets in your system? I'm planning to become the first modern (as in 2003 tech) nation in the rp. I hope the answer is yes, if not, I'll edit this post to be in another sector. For now, I'll assume you don't mind. Here's a description of my nation, if you need it.
Free Pacific States is a typical nation in the midst of its second industrial revoloution. (First being the development of electricity, enjines, and nuclear bombs/power, second being the entrance to the computer era). It has complete control over one planet of the Taka system, and is very diplomatic with the Takan people (despite the diffirence in their tech). Free Pacific States has one sensor module (given to it by Taka for safety purposes) and has some trading with the Takans. Thats all to say. They have very little public assent, and is completly democratic.
IC:
Jim Frens sat at Free Pacific States' one and only Space Sensor States (SSS). He sat watching the screens, pretty bored, watching the dots move about on the screen. "Just another republic coming to make peace or something". Then he saw the discharge on the screens, and realized that the Takan fleet was firing. He slammed an alert button, advising his superiors (though he is a civilian) that hostile ships had entered sector and were approaching. Within minutes, most planetary defenses had been scrambled. They wouldn't be able to do much to space vehicles, but they might do something to any invasionary forces.
((Well it wasn't really my system, but if you insist, I have no problem gaining a few more planets. :D As no-one else has jumped in, feel free))
The Warleet gathers above the north pole of the planet, following standard procedure when entering a new system. Two ships are missing, but a quick scout sent to the south pole retrieves the lost ships. Slowly, as one, the ships descend into the atmosphere.
Seeking out the largest clustering of dwellings (I believr it is the Xanthal city of Shi'in Ra) they land before the largest building. As if on cue the large doors of the ships swing open and the soldiers walk out, quickly forming into the ustomary double lines.
"Ah, here come a group to greet us. Undoubtedly a group of minor nobles. Well, we'll give them a greeting."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taka, these dudes don't have airlocks. They're to primitive.
(Sorry for the hijak, but K-man. Go onto YIM...now,)
((OOC: no no, not thier airlocks, our airlocks. We are going to make a seal with our airlocks when we enter to keep it from depressurixing when we cut through the hull. sorry, didn't realize that I hadn't made that clear.
'They're cutting through the hull!"
"How? What kind of magic could do that?"
"I don't know, but the War Goddes commands us! We must not fail! To your posts!"
The crew quickly line up in the standard double line, front down on their knees, the rear ready to fire over their shoulders.
"Once they're through I want two volleys, then at them with bayonet!"
The crew members ready their slowmatches, ready to light the wicks for the guns
"frag grenades ready?"
"ready sir" the recruit said, standing to the side of the airlock. The cutting torches finshed, leaving the solid metal ring in place at the airlock to the frigate. The soldier kicked it open and threw his grenade, only to be met with a hail of musket fire. The slugs burriend themselves into his armor plates, one cracking his veiw plate, and yet anouther slamming into his knee joint, knocking him to the ground, the slug penetrating the weak segment. The rest of the marines poured through the entrance as the frag grenade went off. The leader was a Squill, the Reptillian creature flinging himself into the fray, katana bared and flashing towards the nearest foe.
OOC: Sorry, my internet was down all day...
IC: The Emperor emerges from his palace with a large contingent of warriors for protection. They appear very composed, but internally they are shocked to have such a strange and marvelous device land at their doorstep. "Greetings!" The Emperor calls out. "I am Emperor Shan the second. Who are you and what business do you have violating the territory of the great state of Shi'in Ra?"
OOC:Sorry if im jumping in... But Im just posting for my ww2 puppet, vichy france
IC: Three air squadrens of D.520's flew over Xanthal, with one more squadren(12) of Douglus DB-7 Reconnaisance Variant Aircraft ventured over the inhabited land. They knew Xanthal was a much more primitive nation, but they also knew to invade it was political suicide; after recent victorys against the flemish, many countries had a close eye on them.
"Yes sir....I am sure... It it... Yes..."Said one of the Douglas pilots, glaring back down. "It cant be a monument... Who in the world would build such a thing? No matter... HQ, we need to get a few F222's full of Commandos, see if we can check this mess out... Ohh hell, lets get one of those new brit flying boats too..."He said, as a few of the cocky D.520 pilots did a dive on the city, trying to scare a few of the locals.
"Damnit jean-paul, marque... Dont fuck around..." He said, firing a few rounds above them, as a warning. Disobedience was the worst form of military traitorship.
WWII happened in 1850? That's new...
Free Pacific States
11-11-2003, 20:12
OOC: lol, not sure how I can get involved, but since I'm in the system of the main space battle, it shouldn't be too long...
IC:
It had been only ten minutes since Jim Freens had sent his message to the military. As he sat watching boarding craft shoot across space, he silently hoped that somehow no one would die. It was then that he realized that his computer wasn't making all the racket he was hearing. Looking outside, he watched as five choppers, two Nuks (Apache equivalent) and three Blue Birds (Black Hawk equivelant). Even as he watced, a large group of soldiers with assault riflesjumped out of the craft and began to secure the perimiter of his house. From the third chopper only two men with Assault Rifles emerged. The rest wore only a holster with a pistol on it. These four men, it seemed, were incharge. Upon entering the house, the lead man looked at him.
"I'm Luitenant Slyvek, this is Admiral Quays, General Lorendo, and Agent O'Conners of the National Police Agency"
"Nice to meet you, how can I help you?" asked Freens
"We're here to look at your radar...er...sensor screen and determine the threat, as well as to make sure that you aren't hurt, and that this machinery isn't damaged"
Even as the man said this, a group of police cars pulled up, and around twelve officers and 8 SWAT Team members sprang out, taking up positions to back up the military.
"Um...well, from the look of it, theres quite a few ships. One group is firing some sort of large projectiles, and the other group, obviously Takan, is firing back with laser cannons, and attempting to board them. That's all I can tell you for now."
"Are they any threat to us?" Asked the General and Admiral together
"I really don't know sirs, I just hope they don't try to land." answered Freens. For the next hour or so, the General and Admiral set up cameras, which he was told were broadcasting to the Hexagon (lol, kind of like the pentagon), the Presidential Palace, National Police HQ, as well as a group of other major military installations. Within two hours, the president and about a hundred diffirent important men were asking him questions over the humungous conference call phone they had. He suddenly realized that his fifteen minutes of fame had arrives.
The Taka Ships:
"Reload! Fire when ready!"
The soldiers quickly speed into motion, measuring out the precise amounts of gunpowder and padding, setting up for another volley. However, before the musket ball is even put in the barrel the frag grenade explode, spweing shrapnel and fire through the corridor.
In an instant the center of the column was down, the soldiers screaming in pain or lying still on the ground.
The remaining soldiers can do nothing but stand there in horror as the massive reptillian thing launches at them.
Fortunately, one commander keeps his wits.
"At them with the Bayonet!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xanthal City:
"Any clue what they're saying?"
"No. Who could understand this barbarian jargon?"
"Not matter. Take them down."
The slowmatches light up and burn the wicks
The Squill flew throug the corridor, his blade coming down towards the nearest man still standing. The bayonet caught him in the breast plate, stopping the creaturs foward momentum, and bringing his foe face to face with a large, snarling, armored lizard, The Squill growled slightly, his inch long fangs forming a pointed smile. With his clawed hands he grabbed the musket, pushing the haples man down and pulling it out of his chest plate. Katana in one hand, musket barrel in the other, he bore down on him.
(all the remaining soldiers are attacking, not just the one who yelled)
((OOC: I am aware of this, bare with me, I'll get around to finishing up the rest, I'd rather not deal with too many thing, besides all the other marines are simply firing through the hole or moving in, the Squill was the first through, the rest will be deployed and ready shortly))
The soldiers stare in horror as their commander is beaten into submission, but they soon snap out of their stupor.
"For Eva!" (Eva is a Goddess they worship)
They charge forward, yanking the beast off the downed officer and then they lay into him. Their Bayonets slicing, their musket butts bashing, and their fierce yells wracking the eardrums.
Then the other Takan soldiers enter the fray.
His face open the Squill covers it as best he can, wincing under blow after blow as he is beaten. He feels several bones give way, and is surprised at the rapid cracking that soon follows. Pain disapates as he realized it is not te sound of his bones cracking, but the sound of boarding rifles.
The marines burst out, firing at anything that moved with thier boarding rifles. A long bayonet fixed on the end of a laser carbine, it was as efficent as it was small. About the size of a submachinegun, the bayonete alone was the lenght of the gun, and while it was practicaly useless in wide areas, the tight coradors of ships made it an eternaly useful little item to have.
The soldiers are slaughtered in an instant, all except the one beaten by the reptile lie dead on the ground. The one beaten into submissions slowly moans and shifts, then opens his eyes.
"Where's my second volley?"
He then slips back into the bliss of unconciousness
The marines secure the room, grabbing the two wounded Takians and bringing them back to the ship for diagnostics and medical attention. They lean over the baddly pummeled alien, grabbing him and carrying him likewise to the medical bay, albeit the brig's med bay.
"sir, it looks, like its all one piece, there don't seem to be any airlocks at all. . . to tell you the truth, it doesn't even look like there is any electricity."
"is that so?" the second in command, a man with short black hair that greyed at his temples, said. lets test that theory. . ." With that he thumbed the airlock to the frigate, closing the inner door, and drew a small plasma charge. "Listen up" he yelled to the two squads." I want everyone in full survival gear, I'm going ot test this. . . depressurization theory."
HAY KLONOR
REMEMBER PEDAPHILIAC?!?!
OOC: Whatever happens, you can't do anything to kill the Emperor or destroy Shi'in Ra (though you can do damage to both). I do have a past to maintain.
IC: The Xanthalian warriors draw their swords, ready for a fight. The Emperor pulls a nearby servant up to him. "Summon the entire regional guard, these people are trouble." The servant runs off to the garrison, about two miles away. The Emperor tries once more to communicate with the aliens. He spreads his arms wide in a symbol of peace.
(okay, then have it that they shoot the people around the Emperor, leaving him and anyone vital un-hurt)
Ped? Is that you? Hey dude!
SUP
dude, i cant beleieve some people still come around here.
Five Civilized Nations
12-11-2003, 16:51
OOC: Xanthal, assume that your nation is next to and an ally to mine... Send messengers requesting assistance, and I'll send some...
The Emperor, watching several of his men fall, curses. "Well, so much for a peaceful solution. Forward!" The elite Imperial guard charges toward the craft, swords drawn. There are no archers on the field. The Emperor grabs another servant after his men have passed. "Take the fastest horse from the stables. Gather the neighboring regional guards. This is going to get ugly, especially if they have friends." The servant nods and dashes off to the stables.
OOC: 5CN, Xanthal is it's own continent. We have no neighbors.
Five Civilized Nations
12-11-2003, 17:06
OOC: Or just nearby
5CN: I dunno... It would take at least a week for the fastest guy we've got to reach the nearest adjacent landmass. You could play as another Shi'in Ra region within Xanthal, or as an enemy neighboring feudal state on the continent. Other than that, you'd have to have your own guys already in the area for some reason.
Five Civilized Nations
12-11-2003, 17:20
OOC: Okay...
IC: Captain Hasmir Fenring glanced around at his squadron as it sailed into Ferris one of the Xanthalian port cities. Fenring was a leader of a squadron that defended the traders in the area from pirates. Returning to the Xanthalian port of Ferris to pick up additional trading vessels to take to the Aza Empire (precursor of the 5CN), Fenring was growing bored of his assignment.
Insert name here=Ferris (the oldest Xanthalian city which still exists (though in much different and updated form) in the 33rd century).
The messenger sent to neighboring regions rides through Ferris on his horse, calling out to the regional garrison to rouse themselves (which is taking some time, Ferris' garrison is notoriously lazy).
Five Civilized Nations
12-11-2003, 17:30
Captain Fenring is shocked by the large amounts of bells tolling. Wondering at what was occuring, Fenring immediately after the vessels docked, leapt down to the dock and began to question passerbys.
Stopping a pair of soldiers, Fenring began to question them.
"Excuse, what is happening here?"
"Garrison's moving out. Some kinda crisis in the capital."
Xanthal:
The soldiers cheer as they watch the men tumble, laughing as people go running away on horses.
The commander turns to his second in command
"Find whoever is in charge of this mudhole. He'll want to surrender"
As the subordiante hurries off a flyer roars over head, the musketeers leaning out of the windows and picking off the remaining men in the field

The Illithid bears down on the planet. The Illithid is the lead spacecraft of Jangle Jangle Ridge, piloted by Tarenteor, leader of JJR himself. He glares at the planet, zoomed in to the point where he can see the individual battles. "Lets shake stuff up, shall we?" Taren says, to no one in particular. He slides twin joysticks out of the ship control panel, activating the JJRMPAC-8352F, a massive planetary assault cannon(Ion-based). He aims the cannon at the main battle area, before slamming down the trigger, as blue beam slams into the middle of the battlefield. The Ion Cannon flicks off and shoots again, this time to destroy the battleships, targetting them one after another, scorching the land and creating massive craters.

Captain Hasimir Fenring disturbed by the recent events, ordered the 1250 fighters aboard his vessels to disembark and advance with the garrison of Ferris.
The Ferris garrison finally gets underway, quick marching to the Shi'in Ra capital.
At the capital, the regional garrison arrives. The archers come first, using stealth to get within range undetected. They open fire with poison-tipped arrows on the musketeers with deadly accuracy.
JJR, are you attacking the ships at Xanthal's city?
I'll wait for a response before posting the next action
He'd better not be, unless he had that kind of technology that early.
You never know. In a bunch of RP's there have been people with advanced tech when Earth was still primitive.
((OOC: Methinks he's given up, if he's not responded in a few days what say we ignore him and go on our way? btw, Klonor, does the Takian officer preparing to blow your ship apart from within run into any more resistance?))
Yeah. I guess we'll just ignore that space attack on the ground ships
Taka, it's probable hat nobody else on the ship even herd what was going on. They might be cheap and primitve, but they're big. Let's say they're left alone
IC:
"We have fliers incoming! (that'd be FCN)"
"What? Call the Warmaster, why didn't he inform us they had hypertech?"
"They dont!"
"Then how? What devils are these (Is it just me, or do these guys all react the exact same way?)?"
"I don't know, but we...."
At that the arrows from the Xanthalains lanuch into the air, striking the reporter right in the chest. He stumbles to the ground, clutching at his chest.
"Treachery! All right, have at them!"
With that, the double lines break and charge at the archers, bayonets lowered and ready
The Takian marine moves over to the nearest section of hull, planting the plasma charge on the inside, setting the timer for thirty minutes. He hurries back to the ship, making it to the airlocks as the plasma charge blows through the underside of the enemy vessle. The frigate's airlock doors close as he enters, the air being sucked out as the ship depressurizes. The marine shakes his head. . . if it weren't for Takian honor mandates they would just sit back and blow these ships to hell from extreme range. . . as it was, the Frigate pulled away from the hulk, seeking the next.
The enemy falls right into the Shi'in Ra trap. The elite regional guard leaps from cover and goes in for the kill on the charging ranks. At such close range there is no time for the enemy to fire, leaving them with only the bayonets on their guns to protect them from the skilled swordsmen. The Shi'in Ra begin swinging deftly at the enemy soldiers as they trap them in a pincer movement.
Meanwhile, the Ferris garrison approaches the capital. Noting the commotion and the large spacecraft they break into a run.
"Drop the powder!"
With the lantern raised into the air a pair of fliers swoop in, their side doors opening and lit powder kegs tumbleing out. They drop in the midst of the Xanthalian troops, detonating soon after

Fenring and his force, who are behind the Ferris garrison noticed that they began to run. Instinctively, Fenring and his men joined in, weapons raised, and death in their eyes.
OOC: They were right up against your troops, you probably killed just as many of your own men with that thing as you killed Shi'in Ra.
IC: The Shi'in Ra scatter as the kegs detonate. Over a dozen are killed. The remaining soldiers (about 500 of them) close in on the enemy again.
The Ferris garrison reaches the site from behind the ship and begins fighting the enemy from the rear. A score of heavy swordsmen break off and charge the ship itself, using their heavy shields to block gunfire as they close in on the hatches.
I concede the point of the powder (my guys were killed as well), but the guns on the ships are the cannons that people used back in the 17'th. They'd punch right through the shield those guys are carrying. Those swordsmen attacking the ships were just sent on a suicide run, since they can't damage the ship and the cannons will kill something like 20 at a time.
OOC: You weren't firing cannons before, you need to RP that. You only RPed gunfire. Besides, they're charging the people standing at the airlock openings, not the ship itself.
IC: The Shi'in Ra continue attacking the now completely surrounded enemy forces.
OOC: I know I wasn't firing the cannons yet, it's just that you said they were holding up shields to block them from fire, and I wanted to make sure that you know it wont do squat. I was giving you a chance to edit your post.
And there are no people at the airlocks shooting. There aren't any airlocks, merely doors that open. They were closed as soon as the soldiers climbed out.
IC:
The main cannons on the ships spit Fire & Flame, hurling huge balls of metal and explosives at the charging fools. The fliers swoop by, agai, and hover over the doors to the ships, the musketeers leaning out firing into the massed soldiers below.
The charging Shi'in Ra are decimated, the few remaining soldiers from the charge returning to the fray with the main enemy force. Some soldiers are taken down by the enemy fire from the ships, but just as many enemies are killed by friendly fire since they are in such close proximity.
OOC: Your ground forces should be just about completely dead by now... You haven't RPed a single death at Xanthalian hands yet. That's highly unrealistic.
Sorry, I thought the deaths were a given. I sometimes forget that I have to actually say "and then XXXX died before doing this". I'm used to space battles where one ship is destroyed every 30 posts. That's one of the resons I started this thread, I really need to improve my infantry RP ability. And there are still many people inside the ships
IC:
as the remaining soldiers retreat from the main Xanthalian force (and man, these alien dudes can run) the doors on the ships open again and another battalion marches out.
They take up positions in the customary double lines. The retreating soldiers, upon reaching the lines, drop to their knees.
"Aim, FIRE!"
The reinforcing rear line of soldiers unleash a barrage over the shoulders of the forward line, directly into the charging Xanthalian ground troops. As they reload their guns the forward line targets and waits for the order.
OOC: What charging Xanthalians? The last chargers retreated.
IC: The Xanthalians drop, recognizing the danger. A few fall, but most are saved by their evasive action. They move out of range behind the growing ranks of archers. The size of the Shi'in Ra force is getting larger by the minute as reinforcements from neighboring towns continue to arrive. The archers equip their longbows, ready to pick off the enemy soldiers if they are foolish enough to charge.
OOC: The beauty of fighting people with muskets is that muskets not only have a relatively short range, but are also usually horribly inaccurate. Longbows have almost identical range and are many times more accurate, not to mention that they have a higher possible firing rate.
OOC: Correct, but muskets also cause more damage and can penetrate armor that arrows can't. One of the resons that infantry stopped wearing any kind of armor until advanced synethetic fiberes were constructed was because muskets could penetrate any easily worn metal that existed at the time.
IC:
"Send up the second lantern!"
The signaller (actually, the back-up signaller. The primary one was killed earlier on) raises the second lantern, signalling to those crewmen manning the ships.
Seeing the signal, they aim the primary armament of the battleship (and this gun has a range way beyond that of a bow) at the massed soldiers (they are massed, right?). Loading a red hot cannon (it's actually a hollow ball filled with gunpowder. It's heated to melting temperature and fired before it fully mealts. Once the metal melts the gunpowder ignites. It's the primitive version of todays modern explosive shells) they target the cneter of the formation and fire.
OOC: No, they're trying to surround the area. Still, something like that would put a nice role in the ranks.
IC: Fifteen Shi'in Ra soldiers are killed by the blast, others move in to fill the gap. Finally heavy weaponry begins to arrive, a few giant crossbows and cannons. They are set up as the Xanthalian soldiers continue a slow retreat.
OOC: Okay, have I said one correct thing this entire RP? Seriously, it's as if every statement I make completely disregards what everyone else is doing
IC:
"Reload the cannons, give 'em a broadside!" (of course, since the ship is on the ground it can't give an actual broadside. It's just their way of saying "shoot lots of guns at the bad guys")
As the bigger guns (this time more than a single red hot cannon. I'd say they're loading 10 to 12 right now. It depends on whether or not the heavy weaponry is in view of the guns at the edge of the ship) reload the infantry leaders converse in hurried whispers. They break apart as there's a flurry of lanterns. Upon the conclusion the men spring into action.
The Fliers, which had landed to reload (since they had to carry like 20 things for every shot they don't have many shots on them), take off again and fly behind the retreating Xanthalian troops. Maintaining a hovering position out of the archers range the fire into the back of the retreating troops. As the Fliers keep them from backing up the infantry, which had finished reloading, unleash two volleys into the gut of the troops and charge forward, bayonets ready to spill the blood of their enemy.
OOC: That's bad tactics man. You could've just had me with the fliers, but your soldiers are gonna get decimated now.
The Xanthalians take some damage from the fliers, but (as I said before) they are out of range of the musket fire and only two soldiers fall to it. As the enemy closes in, the archers (and there are a lot of them, over 100 by now) fire at the foolish gunmen that are now easy targets. Meanwhile, the Xanthalian cannons (five of them) fire a barrage at the ship itself (judging from what you've said about the kind of stuff they use I would think that they would penetrate the hull, though there's not much they could do to the ship's systems barring a lucy shot).
OOC: Ah, but you're thinking modern weaponry. The Fliers weapons are only soldiers who lean out windows and shoot using regular muskets. The only way muskets did any real damage back then was with massed numbers (hence the hundreds of people lined up in rows). Since the fliers neither have massive numbers of troops, nor allow them to set up in the rows that allow the most effective use of the firepower they can't do any significnt damage. Only supplemental damage. So, the soldiers need to charge to actually kill large numbers of soldiers
Cannons? I thought you were bow and arrow tech
IC:
The soldiers stumble and slow under the arrows, yet keep coming. The lead soldiers (those of the lowest ranks, of course) are pierced and fall, trampled by those behind. 76 soldiers fall, and are swarmed over by the remaining hundreds. The fall upon the archers like a plague, their bayonets glinting in the light.
OOC: I just want to make sure you actually used cannons before I post damage. Cause I'm just confused over bow and arrow guys haveing cannons
OOC: Simple; the Shi'in Ra never used guns until the mid twentieth century when the technology was better (and because of tradition). They have used cannons since the beginning of the ninteenth century though, if they didn't they would be overrun by sea. Anyway, they needed some type of heavy weaponry. By the way, the idea is that the archers are lined up behind the swordsmen.
IC: The enemy catches two more arrow barrages before they reach the Xanthalian swordsmen. The two sides clash as the archers retreat again, taking potshots at the enemy soldiers in the fliers.
OOC: Just wanted to check on that
IC:
The 5 Cannon shots (it was 5, right?) impact on the armor, three shots bursting through into the interior while the other two, striking the more heavily reinforced areas over the ammunition storage, merely dent the armor.
The three shots that penetrate, however, cause havok. Ricocheting around the interior the burst through the walls of the bridge (well, it's not really a "bridge" as we say it. It's the place where the Warmaster sits and receives the messengers that have been sent to him from the pilots room, weapons room, etc.) Killing the Warmaster they effectively cut off the leadership for the ground forces. (until the ships still in orbit send down the assistant Warmaster).
Noticing the danger presented by the Cannons the weaponry on the ship targets and fires, 12 red hot shots flying through the air at the Xanthalian artillary.
Four of the cannons are destroyed, the fifth is knocked out of position. The artillery men begin aiming it again as others are sent to retrieve more cannons.
OOC: If you send down more ships we're royally screwed and you've just destroyed Xanthal's entire future. I might need to do emergency rescue tactics if that happens (i.e. a Xanthalian Dreadnaught goes back in time to deliver a smackdown). I don't mean to be unflexible, and I would accept the inevitable if I didn't have a timeline to keep. As it is though, I can only let you do so much.
(until the ships still in orbit send down the assistant Warmaster).
OOC: Just another general, I'm not talking about another army
IC:
Noticing the people leaving the battle (that'd be the artillary men going for more cannons)a Flier is dispatched to halt their movement. Of course, with the Warmaster dead it takes a while for the Flier to be dispatched and it takes a while find them.
After a long time of searching it comes upon the traveling soldiers. Touching off the fuse on a powder keg they drop it right amidst the men
(I gotta go to bed now. it's 2 am here. I'm not tired, but I need to get up in about 4 hours)
OOC: I don't think that after having that pulled so many times already they would group together very tightly. Besides, it's not like they need to go very far to get the cannons, just to the palace about 200 yards away.
IC: Several are killed, the rest fling stones at the flier (there are no archers with them) as they continue on.
OOC If they're not going far wouldn't they still be in the ground battle? Why wouldn't some of the infantry just stab them with a bayonet?
Five Civilized Nations

Fenring glanced in horror at the massive airship in the air. Drawing his sword, he ordered his archers to begin firing arrows at the airship. Meanwhile, Fenring led a charge of 200 swordsmen into the ranks of the Klonor musketeers...
OOC: Because your infantry (what's left of it after all those arrows) is still surrounded by the Shi'in Ra swordsmen until you and I RP otherwise.
OOC: Oh, okay.
FCN, the giant ship is on the ground. The things in the air would be about the size of a modern helicopter. And all my guys are mixed up with Xanthals guys, they're not all together anymore
Five Civilized Nations
19-11-2003, 17:33
OOC: Whoops...
IC:
Fenring and his swordsmen joined the Shin'Ra combating Klonor's musketeers. Meanwhile, the archers fired in vain at the airships in the sky, while additional swordsmen swarmed towards the massive airship on the ground.
The Shi'in Ra ranks are further bolstered by the arrival of garrisons from the large towns of Chin'al and Enneri, which come bearing not only hundreds of soldiers between them, but a few cannons as well. The soldiers sent to retrieve the last five cannons from the palace begin returning with them, spread out so as to avoid presenting a single taget.
OOC: You're killing more of us than we are of you, but we have lots more troops.
OOC: I know, but that didn't work out to well for the Incans (they had 50,000, the Spanish had 156. The Spanish won)
IC:
The reinforcements for the Xanthalians begin to take their toll on the infantry, as the superior numbers begin to whittle down their forces. Finally, they are ordered one last charge (they then proceed to charge)
Seeing the new forces arrive the gunners abandon the hot cannons and load with regular ammunition (since they don't have to heat is so precisely and handle it so gently they can reload a lot faster).
With a load "boom" the Cannons all around the ships (Since the ship is surrounded, I'd say somwhere from 25 to 30 cannons are firing) light off and hurl metal and flame at the troops (and yes, I do know that many of my troops will die as well. Such is the price of war)
Seeing the cannons now being brought onto the field they signal (with lanterns) to the fliers, which soon commence the powder drops.
After the Fliers finish the attack they flee back to the ship, landing to be reloaded with musket ammunition and powder kegs
Over 100 Xanthalians are killed by the blast. Several openings appear in the ranks, but they are quickly closed. The Xanthalians meet the oncoming charge with full force. The artillery, now completely set up, decides that the fliers are an annoyance and fire on them with good (though not great) accuracy. (I assume that the fliers are pretty easily taken out of commission on the ground.)
Yup. They're really maneuverable in the air, but on the ground they're just big boxes. 5 Cannons, right?
OOC: Nine. Five from the palace, four brought by the incoming regional garrisons.
OOC: Gotcha
IC:
4 of the shots strike home, punching through the armor and knocking out the hypertech systems. Two more hit, but just pass right through, only killing a few crew members
The other 3 miss the ships, traveling on and rolling along the ground into the soldiers on the other side
OOC: I would have thought the distance greater than that... Oh well.
IC: The Shi'in Ra soldiers simply step aside and let the balls pass them by before resuming their fight with the enemy. The Xanthalian cannons are quickly reloaded and fired once more at the remaining fliers.
Wouldn't they be moving way to fast for the people to just step aside? The cannon balls should have been moving at near supersonic speeds.
IC:
The Fliers, seeing the danger, take off and shoot up into the air, easily dodging the cannonballs. The ship, once again noticing the threat after it's already shot, fires a barrage a the cannon positions, a few red hots mixed in with the regular shots
OOC: After they hit the ground (assuming they don't bury themselves) friction would slow them down pretty damn quick.
IC: Three of the cannons are destroyed. The remaining six fire on the main vessel.
OOC: They bounce and roll, they'd continue to be really fats for a long distance. Ever see The Patriot?
IC:
The shots spang off the armor, hitting the reinforced sections and dropping to the ground. The shipos cannons, after the necessary reload time, return their fire with a vengance.
OOC: No... Well, whatever. I'll say six of my people died then.
IC: Three more Xanthalian cannons are picked off, but the Shi'in Ra artillerymen have learned quickly and moved the last three cannons into a position where the main ship's cannons cannot target them. These three fire a fourth salvo into the ship, aiming for weaker hull points. They have also managed to gather the accurate giant longbows about them to take out any fliers that try to fire on them.
The Fliers, seeing the cannons being repositioned, dart forward and release another wave of powder kegs, dropping them right amid the cannons and their workers. They effortlessly dodge the primitve and slow arrows that come at them, almost laughing as they fly by on the left and right (like I said, really maneuverable. They can start and stop instantly (no time to speed up and slow down), they can change direction instantly, and they move very fast)
OOC: Sorry, if they can slow down enough to drop powder kegs they are an easy target for the artillery longbows. They fire really big and tough arrows at bullet speed. Besides, they have no more kegs, they didn't have time to reload last time they landed; remember?
They had time. Remember, the first cannon shots hit them cause they were still on the ground, the second shots missed because they took off. They had time to reload while the cannons were reloading
OOC: With what? It takes just under a minute for the cannons to reload, and the longbows would have taken out any fool who came out carrying a powder keg. You didn't RP them reloading, so I'm not obligated to assume they did.
All they have to do is put a couple of barrels onto the fliers. SHouldn't take more than a couple seconds. The archers are in the midst of fighting what's left of my infantry, I don't see how they'd be able to stand there waiting for somebody to come out.
But you're right, I didn't RP them being reloaded.
IC:
The Fliers zoom in, the musketeers leaning out windows and taking shots at the men reloading the cannons, as well as firing at the men aiming the crossbows. (they still dodge the crossbow shots)
As the fliers keep the cannons distracted the main ship lifts up, rotates, and settles back down with it's main armament tnow pointed at the cannons.
3 red hots come zooming out at the cannons, the other one getting a barrage of regular cannon balls.
The Shi'in Ra take out the last few enemy soldiers on the ground, then make a hasty retreat out of range. The last Xanthalian cannons are destroyed. The Emperor sends a messenger to get more artillery, but for the moment the Shi'in Ra stay out of range and on the move to avoid being easy targets for the fliers. There is little that they can do until they figure out a better plan of attack.
OOC: This is hopeless. Is there some weakness your guys have? Something has to give here, because like I said: I can't abandon the capital.
I was thinking the same thing, this is really never going to end. How about you pretend to surrender, all the guys come out to gloat and impose the will of their great empire on you, and then you spring a trap and slaughter everyone
OOC: Are they really that dumb?
Yes. In their eyes you're all primitive savages. It's exactly like when the Spaniards came to America, they thought all the Native Americans (got to be politically correct) were stupid, ignorants, and incapable of anything. They believed that they were superior in every way. These guys think the same thing
OOC: Huh. Well, why not? But if they're really that gullible we'll have to go for a total shutout. I can't wait to see the looks on your guys' faces.
IC: The Emperor summons his aides and forms a plan. Quietly the Shi'in Ra begin gathering what they will need. Night is falling rapidly. By the break of dawn all will be prepared. So under the cover of darkness the soldiers begin to move into position, dark figures carrying objects unidentifiable in the pale light of the moon stealthily to the ship, hiding them in the brush.
The Fliers fly about, moving in larger and larger circles, searching for any troops or threats (however, since all they have are some lanterns they might happen to miss some well hidden weapons and troops).
The guns on the ship are all armed, and constant infantry patrols move around , searching for any trouble.
The Shi'in Ra quickly finish their task and hunker down in the shadows, waiting for morning.
(the same stuff in the post above happens)
Dawn happens
OOC: Heh.
IC: The morning light reveals an unarmed contingent moving slowly toward the alien vessel. They carry white flags, hoping that the symbol of peace is universal.
They unarmed group is stumbled upon by a roving armed patrol. Upon seeing the lack of weapons the shoulder theirs, making obvious gestures to stop. They cautiously advance and lead them to the center of the clearing, keeping them at gunpoint the while way.
The leader of the group waits to meet whoever is in charge and tries to think of a way to deliver the message he was instructed to. How the heck do I surrender to people I can't communicate with? I get all the worst jobs.
The Assistant Warmaster (recently delivered from the fleet waiting in orbit) steps out of the ship and walks to the delgation.
Opening his hands he asks the obvious question: "What do you want?"
Seeing that they do not understand he attempts to mime out his request, playacting his statement
The Shi'in Ra soldier speaks in early Xanthalian, the standard language of Xanthal at the time. It is essentially a mix of the Chinese and Japanese languages; Xanthalian hasn't developed many of it's own characteristics yet. He has little hope of getting through with oral language, but it buys him time to think of a way to get his message across in an alternative way.
"Um... I came here to negotiate. Can you understand me?"
The assistant Warmaster just stares at the Xanthalian, not understanding a word. He's trying to grasp the meaning, but there's a pretty good reson he's only the assistant Warmaster. Eventually, he just gets fed up.
Turning to the soldiers surrounding the field he gives the order: "Have them taken to the front of that palace and shoot them. It'll be a good example to the rest"
The rest of the crew comes out of the ship, herding the men towards the palace gates.
"Ready......aim....."
The Shi'in Ra soldier sighs. "Well, that worked well. Glad we have a backup plan..."
The archers, who had been hiding out from flier fire in the palace, rise over the walls and take aim at the assistant warmaster and his men. At such close range and with arrows at the ready there is almost no time for the enemy to react as almost 200 arrows leave their bows and race toward their targets.
OOC: Taking them up against the palace walls? That's too easy.
OOC: That was kinda the point
IC:
The arrows speed through the air with deadly accuracy, striking home on over 150 soldiers, including the newly promoted Warmaster. The remaining soldiers spin around with their muskets ready, but are unable to see the archers. They proceed with random firing, hoping to hit some of the enemy, but it's obvious they're scared ****less
The soldiers that had been lined up dive for cover as the random shots fly. A few of them are hit, the rest cower on the ground, still unarmed.
The archers on the wall pop up and fire another salvo, hoping to attract the attention of more enemy soldiers. For plan A to work, most of the enemy troops must be drawn away from the ship.
The Fliers, hearing the gunshots, take off and head over to the battle ground. They are just as unsure of who to shoot (mainly because they don't know what the hell is going on) but they do their best.
Seeing the inneffectiveness of the Fliers the remaining troops at the ship decide for a surprise counter-attack. The slowly creep off to the left, then turn towards the palace, hopeing to catch whoever had sprung the trap.
The keen observer will see that it is the aliens who have fallen into a trap. Well-hidden Xanthalians pop out of the places where powerful kegs of explosives were hidden the night before and move quickly into position, quietly dispatching anyone who got in the way. Some position themselves at the landing gear of the ship, while the others sneak from under the ship to place their explosives under the vessel's cannons. They are all in position, but they only have a few seconds left before they will be detected. They all say pay final respects to the Emperor before detonating the charges and killing themselves along with their targets.
OOC: That'll ruin your landing gear, probably making the ship fall to the ground. It should also have taken out at least 75% of your cannons.
OOC: There is no landing gear, it's resting flat on the ground. However, it is now non-space worthy, to many holes to patch. So these guys are now stranded on Earth.
IC:
The ship is now non-space worthy, to many holes to patch.
OOC: Oh well, at least I took out most (if not all) of those damn cannons...
IC: Immediately following the blast, a second group of Shi'in Ra swordsmen rush into the ship through the hull breaches, on a suicide mission to kill as many of the enemy as possible before being killed themselves. They begin slaughtering the still-confused aliens inside the ship.
Free finally of the danger from the cannons, the Xanthalians charge the oncoming soldiers in full force, the worst warriors running in front of the rest to act as human shields from the single-shot muskets. From the walls, the archers fire another volley into the oncoming enemy ranks before ducking behind the cover of the parapet.
The aliens, well trained and experienced, do not panic. They line up in their perfect rows, unleash their volleys, and charge forward with their bayonets, ready to die.
The Fliers, exhausting their ammunition and powder kegs, fly straight down, attempting to take out as many soldiers as they can on suicide runs.
OOC: They line up in perfedt rows inside the ship? How does that work? Were they ready for this in advance?
IC: The Xanthalians take losses in excess of 100 men from the fliers' attack, but know that they cannot fight them, and thus ignore them. Their supplies of ammunition will be exausted soon enough, and when they land they'll be at the mercy of the cannons sitting just inside the palace gates. The messengers sent out the previous evening had managed to get twelve, but those twelve were the last ones in the region. It would be weeks before more could arrive if these were lost. Thus, they are well-concealed to prevent a flier from detecting and destroying them.
The soldiers both outside the ship and inside the ship continue the fierce fighting against the enemy. On even ground against bayonettes and with superior numbers, their victory is all but assured as the archers continue to pick off enemy troops from the walls.
The were lined up to fight these guys, I believe they were outside the ship. The guys in the ship were all slaughtered quite easily
OOC: Okay, I was wondering if you meant the ones outside or not...
IC: The Shi'in Ra continue the fight, the remaining swordsmen from the attack on the ship itself moving to block the enemy's passage back to their vessel. Seeing their move, the Emperor diverts 100 extra troops to join them.
The battlefield and the Xanthalian forces:
-----------------------------------------------
Inside the Imperial Palace:
200 archers,
300 swordsmen,
12 cannons and crews.
-----------------------------------------------
Between the enemy forces and the palace:
600 swordsmen.
-----------------------------------------------
Between the enemy forces and their ship:
150 swordsmen.
-----------------------------------------------
Peripheral forces:
100 swordsmen.
Alien forces: 12....whoops....make that 11 infantry left alive. 2 Fliers still in the air and armed
IC:
The remaining soldiers huddle in a square, half of the soldiers bayoneting to keep the other half clear to reload and fire.
One of the two fliers still left in the air drops it's last powder keg, then follows it down it a speed dive straight at a clump of Xanthal swordsman
OOC: Suicide tactics? How the mighty have fallen.
IC: The alien flier smashes into the ranks, killing fifty Shi'in Ra. All 800 remaining soldiers on the field retreat and scatter as the archers in the palace fire one last finishing volley at the pitiful remains of the enemy ground forces. They wait for the action of the last threat: The enemy flier.
"What can we do?"
"What else is there? Aim for the palace! With our deaths we shall show these beasts Eva's displeasure!"
"But, what good will it do?"
"It....well....."
"If we die here the Head Warmaster will only send another fleet, they shall be defeated just as we were. We must get word home!"
"But how?"
"The scoutship that originally found this syetm. It's still in orbit. We must tell them so they can tell the home planet."
"Yes. Take us up, and may we never again see this accursed planet."
OOC: Well, that's done... We can't stop it.
Yup. This battle over. Cheese?
Absolutely. *Grabs and eats cheese.*

OOC: Nah, you've still got an alien starship with an increadibly simple FTL drive sitting on your doorstep; gotta preserve the timeline!
IC:
A massive shadow looms over the battlefield, the dragon casting it over a hundred meters long, starting to circle over head as it spies the holed alien starship and fleeing flyer.
'Now there's something you don't see every day,' it muses to itself, breifly persuing the flyer until the air grew thin; loosing a ball of sun-hot flame at the insect(the proverbial 'potshot') befor turning earthward.
Minutes later it's passage again cast the field into darkness, swooping low over the tiny locals and sinking it's talons into the ship's already taxed hull; powerful wings spawning gale force winds as it strugles to gain altitude under load, making it's way out to sea, across the ocean to it's home in a distant land which would one day come to be known as Kanuckistan.
OOC: Um... Wow. Are you serious?

OOC: Yup!
They're low in population, but I do actually have a few(mostly younger ones) in my military. In fact, there's one with the small Kanuckistani garrison on that resort world Indra Prime set up(we've established a shore leave station there).

OOC: What's the problem? That sucker above's ancient; the few in the military are alot smaller, shear hell logisticly, and far more realistic than, say, the giant mecha some people've been using.
OOC: I know this is probably way too late, but is it too late to join for a new theatre? (i'm guessing it is). If it's not (which isn't likely), i'll give you more information about my tech level.
It's to late, this RP is over. If you'd really like I could start it again, but it'd most likely be a different situation that the ones already in this RP
Do i have to ask permission to use this RP scenario that you came up with?
Nope, go ahead. I didn't invent it (I got it from a book I read), so it's up for grabs. Just remember, they have FTL and the ability to detect FTL, but beyond that they're still stuck in the 17'th century. Have fun!
