The Takian fleet folded around lunar orbit, the two battle cruisers Invictus and Takian Pride leading the push towards the battleground, a large, inhabited island in the Pasific. Cordons had been set up, neutral ships and planes to keep civilian craft out of the area. A large hospital had been set up shortly offland, helicoptors ready to rescue and transport any soldier that had been wounded to the large, well stocked medical facility.

"sir, we have confirmation, final checks have been made and all weapons have been refited for the wargames. permission to send green signal to comand control?"

"permission granted, wait for all nations to give the green signal"

* * * * *

In command control High Admiral Azreal looked over the tactical readouts. Force deployments and data streamed in. He watched the Takian signal flash to green and reguarded the high commanders from the other nations on both sides.

"Taka, ready" he said.

The AS progam that would run the damage control hovered in the air, the holographic face reguarding all in attendance. "as soon as all teams are ready, Attacker Deployment will begin, I assure you, I have been programed to be complelty fair and impartial in this exercise."

'At ease General'
'Yes Sir'
They were inside the large dreadnought class starship 'Taciturnus Perditor' in orbit above the battlefield.
'General Grant, what is our current force deployment?'
'We have all forces deployed apart from our navy Sir, there currently setting up a defensive perimeter around the east side of the island, the side weve set up our main base camp'
'Good. What about this space force? Is it able to give any kind of support fire to the ground forces?'
'Sir, only the Ion Cannon Frigates can do that Sir. Only they have weapons capable of doing enough damage at that range Sir.'
'Good. I take it you mean simulated damage?'
'Of course Sir. All weapons have been modified to give only simulated damage to the enemy Sir.'
'Exceptional General. Now, i want you to send out ready signal to the High Commander.....Azreal i think. You're sure everything is ready?'
'Yes Sir, im sure. I'll send the signal now Sir'
'Good work. Dismissed General'
'At once Mike'
'I said you were at ease General, not on first name terms'
'Of course Commander Williams'
'Now, go General'
'Of course Sir, right away S-'
'NOW!'
'Yes Sir!'

((OOC: Sorry I'm late, screw the fleet pics, I'll just post the stats here, a little long though))
The Star Empire Space Navy:
"Snark" class battleship:
The pride of the Space Navy, these massive spacecraft are nearly .5 miles long and .2 miles wide. They field twenty massive laser cannon, five hundred "BB" cannons, three kinetic energy weapon launchers, and one thousand heat-seeking missiles. Thunderstraat has only built five of these juggernauts, and is sending two for the wargame.
"Hispania" class carrier:
This jury-rigged machine has only one purpose, and that is to carry fighters. It has basic crew quarters and an I.V. food supply, but that's it. ((Sort of a framework starship, if you are imagining this)) It can carry one hundred "Cresta" class interceptors or fifty "Epee" class long-range fighters. It can also carry two atmospheric hover-carriers, and four dropships. Thunderstraat has ten, and has sent four to these wargames.
"Tercel" class frigate:
Made by private mercenaries from hollowed-out asteroids, the "Tercel" can be from .03 to .25 miles in length. It has very little power for its size, only holding twenty "BB" cannons, ten medium lasers, and thirty IR missiles. Thunderstraat has confiscated more than forty from intra-system pirates, and has sent twelve here.
"Epee" class long-range single-pilot atmospheric/vacuum fighter:
A modified exploration vessel. It packs a 30-mm mass driver, three 1/25 in. "BB" guns , two Gatling-type lasers, with missiles, extra ammo or armor, etc, given to individual pilots on merit.
Twenty-five are assigned to the war game, with more possible as pilots return from distant missions.
"Cresta" class interceptor:
A small non-atmospheric fighter craft, with a two-laser focused beam weapon, five IR missiles, ten dumbfire missiles, and 1,000 explosive flechettes.
One hundred and fifty are assigned to this mission.
"Gawain" class dropship:
This standard-looking craft carries two thousand ground troops. Four fully-stocked Gawains are in transit with the fleet. ((That makes six thousand marines, plus support; is that OK?))
"MacArthur" class hover-carrier
This purely atmospheric ship has room for fifty VTOL bombers and one hundred fighters. Two are included.
Unnamed VTOL atmospheric bomber
Holds five thousand pounds of bombs or one standard WMD. Standard cruising speed Mach .9. One hundred included.
Unnamed fighter
Cruises at 1500 MPH, carries a nose-mounted plasma cannon, a focused-laser beam weapon, five IR missiles, and five heatseekers.

The fleet is arriving in geostationary orbit above Hawaii as we speak.

*the president rounded the last corner and stepped into the military command center, a large holographic display had already been set up to display the island upon which the wargames where to take place, 3 generals sat around it and watched as red dots started to appear where enemy troops had been seen*

'is everything ready?'
'the troops are moving into position on the southern parts of the island as we speak sir'

*the president walked up to the holographic display as the symbolic T's, AA's and G's started coming into the line they where supposed to be in, T's where HC-1 equipped temporary turrets, t's where SC-1 equipped bunkers for the troops, AA's where the massive AC-1 laser batteries and G's where the ground troops, H's would soonly appear from the mainland to support troops, each H stood for a single KL-60B attack helicopter*

'very well, make sure they are on high alert, the enemy will probably be deploying from above, spaceships have already been spotted and i'm certain dropships will soon be launched, see if the AA's can be overpowered to hit orbital targets, that should prove highly usefull'

"Ready to deploy, General Allger."
"Go ahead."
The main body of the fleet moved into a polar orbit around the Prime Meridian. Plane carriers and dropships launched from the huge, framework hyperdrive ship carriers.
*Remmonland defensive forces, this is the Thunderstraat marine commander Milhaus. We are landing on the large hill near the north tip of the island. We mean you no harm*
((just so your AA don't fire on us by mistake))
The carriers gently touched down the water in their first mission outside the lakes of New Jupiter. Nuclear power plants stirred to life, and the ships slowly rose one foot above the water. A team of robotic exploration helicopters rose from the decks and swarmed over the island. Ten fighter craft took off and started circling above the carriers.
The four massive dropships landed on the hill, causing the ground to ripple. Legs extended from the 'ships to sink deep into the Earth, making them effectively earthquake-proof. The entire top layer of the largest 'ship flipped over to make the main command post and barracks. One 'ship folded into a 3D imaging dome for a sphere covering the entire northern half of the island. The other two 'ships became a support barracks and a hospital.
Marines poured from the landing craft to set up defensive plasma towers. Halftracks started prowling the ((jungle? forest? desert?)) of the island. Bulkily-armored marines patrolled the tops of the dropships with huge energy guns. ((The standard imperial energy gun has micron-sized shield generators that are charged as they leave the gun. The shields force them up to nearly .1 c, so they are very harmful and very, very loud. Their only downside is a vulnerability to EMP and a low range - 500 yards. Most marine companies have several rocket launchers to counter this))

The trio of fast Meteor Class Assault Frigates moved into orbit of the moon near the Takian fleet, all the guns outfitted for the wargames. Rear Admiral Lower Half Karmal Zabi paced the bridge of his flagship, the Neptune, while he waited for the frigates to prepare. After a while, he peered out the two sides at the two sisterships of the Neptune, the Perseus and the Bellephron.

The Neptune hailed the flagship of the Takian Fleet.

This is Rear Admiral Lower Half Karmal Zabi in command of the 99th Space Combat Naval Unit... I'm here to participate in the wargames. All the ships have been refitted and we are ready...

"understood, welcome to the fray commander, we still require confermation from high command that defence is go, and then we'll begin the push. It looks like we'll have two fellow space navies to battle against, so we are planning on launching dropships with Frigates and Destroyers to guard them before the main fleet engages teh enemy to see who can provide ground support. A final reminder, all superweapons and WMD have been turned off. . . so we are flying without our Nova Cannons. hope you boys have enough firepower to make up for that loss."

* * * * *

Azreal looked over the pannel, Rinceweed, Thunderstraat, Remmonlands, and Five Civilized nations had signed in. Only Automastan and Port Neptune remained on not ready. He looked around the room at the other commanders and smirked, for most of them this would be thier first taste of Takian tactics. . . and hopefully for them, their last. To make things fair, the nova canons had been turned off. . . however he had a rather nasty surprise awaiting them . . . . he turned back to the holographical display, wishing that he could dirrect the battle, but for the sake of fairness, no general in the main command room would be allowed outside comunications. He sighed, hoping those under him would perform to their fullest.

Supreme Admiral John Bulrond looked out at the island. From his post on the command ship Alkirk, he could see the intended landing site for the ground forces committed to his control in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 9th Coastal Groups. He knew that if he was going to win this war, he would need to work very closely with the other commanders guarding this rock from the Takian and 5CN invaders.

He picked up the radio handset. "Attention all ships, this is Bulrond. Begin deployment on my mark. One... two... mark!"

With that, the coastal groups sent out their LCACs -- all 400 of them, in shifts of 50 -- skimming toward the coast. Each one was fully loaded with something, be it troops, tanks or supplies. Each one had a designated landing point on the beach.

As Bulrond watched them hover their way toward the island, he made one of his typical snap decisions. "Engineering Corps, I want you to build a dock ASAP. If the Alkirk gets hit, I don't want to be on her. I'm coming ashore when I can."
He turned to his second-in-command, Admiral Brent Spiker. "Brent, I want you in charge of the fleet while I'm landbound, understood?"
"Yes, Sir!" Spiker responded.
"Excellent."
10-11-2003, 14:33
*the president sat down in his chair after surveying the battlefield 1 last time, the KL-60B's flying into the range of the display as he sat down and dropsships being landed by 1 of his allies, the AC-1's carefully tracking the dropships and waiting for the order to fire, untill the order came that they where not to fire at those dropships, a small naval fleet appeared as well and was indentified as the second of his allies*

Commander Milhaus received the message from the Remmonlandi president and ordered his troops to set up the AA cannon. These cannon are focused-laser beams, with two stations producing a huge burst of energy at the focal point.
Twenty AA batteries were set up, with ten around the Thunderstraat base and the rest spread out evenly along the beaches.

"Sir, all but one nation has reported readiness, should we initiate wargames?"

"Aye, prepare all men, we are going to hit them hard and fast, drop to outskirts of the playingfield, then boost in under radar at the most weakly defended possition, that would be the north-western beaches. Have the Frigates and destroyers running escort, and get our gunships and bombers to hit the south-western beaches"

"sir?"

"to draw thier attnetion away from our real objective, we need to establish a presence on the island before we can hope to win. Set us on a course to skirmish with the spacefleets, just a small manuever to get attention away from the dropships. . . trace lances around, I want you to concentrate all fire on the largest ship out there, focus fire on that as soon as the go beacon flashes, and then swivel to the next largets, see if you can't throw them into panic."

"Aye sir!"

* * * * *

Azreal looked over his comrades in the bunker. The others had set themselves in.

"Gentlemen, Game on" he said. He looked over at the Remmonlands general. "I'm interested to see how your laser weapons fare against our armor, we have no combat experience against that kind of a weapon."
10-11-2003, 20:44
*a small message icon blinked onto the hologram and the president was quick to activate it*

*after only a few moments the president understood what the message said, the games had begun and the enemy attack would be upon them soon enough*

*another message appeared on screen and the president smirked, the additional 20 KL-60B's had arrived at long last and were being flown in from the north-east, a few seconds later several red dots appeared in the approach vector of the KL-60B's, who had been instructed to come in at deck level (between 10 to 50 feet above the water)*

'order those helicopters to hold their position, tell them go damned low'

general: 'sir, we need those helicopters at the island, as soon as possible sir'

me: 'yes, i know, but i think this will prove to be usefull'

General Allger stirred in his wheelchair. "Move... troops... spread..." His aide spoke up. "Spread out the troops?"
"Yeh."
The Marines spread out, forming a human wall of rocket launchers and energy rifles. Half of them dug into bunkers.
((General Rufus Allger is a 13-year-old crippled autistic savant))
10-11-2003, 23:36
Suddenly something appeared in the distance. "Curses!" Bulrond said, "Takian warships! I just hope they don't hit up our LCACs." At that moment, most of them -- 263, that is -- had already deposited their cargoes on the beach, and a few were still returning to their ships. The engineers had already started work on the dock the admiral had ordered, but it could be hours before it was ready to receive Bulrond. As for the Automite camp, it was mostly done, and the soldiers were involved in either setting up AA guns, manning their Crusaders, building the landing strip the planes would need, or playing card games.

Unexpectedly, one of Bulrond's aides came running up to him. "Sir! General Salvo on the phone!"
Bulrond rushed to his office and picked up the phone. "What is it, Jorge?"
The Supreme General of the Air Force asked, "John! How's that landing strip coming? You know when it needs to be done."
"Yes, I certainly do. It's coming, alright; judging from the looks of it, your pilots should have a nice smooth landing in an hour or so."
"Good job, John. I knew I didn't have to worry about you."

As they spoke, the 61st, 85th, and 119th Fighter Squadrons were several hundred miles from the island, hoping they would find a tidy landing strip on the island, and not a squadron of Takian fighters or bombers.

The two battlecruisers locked onto the nearest ship, thier lances "Firing" at extreme range, the low powered lasers seeking the ships as the AS system below marked range and prepared to estimate damage. Ten Frigates broke off, following twenty destroyers and about fourty large dropships. Flanked by two light cruisers and the carrier, they headed towards an unoccupied possition of space, letting the rest of the taskforce keep the enemy fleet buisy with longranged shots. The two battlecruiers warmed up thier side weapons batteries, preparing for broadsides as soon as range was reached.

'I have an idea! Do we have any dropships for our special forces with us?'
'Oh....uh, not really Sir'
'Dammit. Well, remove the bombs from....20 of our bombers. How much should they hold that way?'
'Uh, about 40 people each Sir'
'Excellent! Now get to it. And have our other fighters and bombers start attacking anything in the air or sea. Nothing to heavy. Just a sort of hit and run thing. That should keep our losses down. Also, have the larger ships bombard the enemy from long range and have our subs start work on the largest of the enemy ships. But like i said, hit and run only. Try and find a weak spot. Thats all General, dismissed'

The Takian fleet continued to pound the space fleet, neraly halfway between the moon and earth now. The frigates and dropships dropped towards the planet, shielded from fire by the massive hulls of the Battle Cruisers.
12-11-2003, 21:11

'What should they go for Sir?'

In the launch bays below the longbow interceptors were finishing last minute checks, and prepped for lanuch. Crews scurried out of the way, moving behind the blast doors as the Longbows gunned thier engines, flying out the airshield and into the AEtherial darkness of space. The onboard AI systems showed the other interceptors on teh nav screen, about 48 in the first wave, several hundred in the second, lauching from the carriers behind them. Gunships, bombers, and the atmopheric fighters followed the dropships down, as the frigates and destroyers suddenly changed course, heading towards the cluster of ion frigates, the weapons batteries carging to full power and torpedoe's preparing for "launch".

The 5CN frigates flashed through the enemy space fleet, dangerously close to the other vessels. The guns winking on and off as they fired. The 5CN frigates were both small and fast, heavily armed, heavily shield and armored, and extremely dangerous. The lead frigate, the Neptune lanced through the stream of Thunderstraat vessels striking out like a whip.

The Perseus and the Bellephron attacked the flanks of the Thunderstraatian navy, causing tremendous "damage".

Meanwhile a wing of long-range interceptors entered the atmosphere escorting the 35 dropships on their way to land on the island.

OOC: The frigates are one of the best vessels in the 5CN fleet, being heavily armed, heavily armored/shielded, and very fast. These three frigates have been upgraded with multiple overlapping shields.

The Thunderstraat vessels scattered from a command from General Allger. Half the fleet winked into hyperspace and reappeared on the other side of Earth, and swarmed around in realspace to attack the 5CN navy from the side. Fake flashnuke explosions deadened the communications of the attacking vessels. The Glamstraat, a replica of the stolen flagship, moved with astounding speed and shot at the frigates from its central sphere. Thousands if "missiles" poured from the hulls of the mighty battleships to explode in mock-nuclear detonations.

((The "Mundanstraat" style flagship looks like a split square, I think you can imagine this, with a sphere in the middle with the bridge and propulsion units. It is faster in realspace than most of our fighters, however it uses up fuel at a preposterous rate. The flashnuke vaporizes everything within twenty feet and creates a flash of light from UV to AM radio and everything in between, it tends to knock out communications and melt ships that go too close. Real flashnukes would have blinded a ton of people on the planet's surface.))

The frigates started showing hits, the hull rupturing on a few in minor places.

"fold now" The admiral said, watching as the entire fleet of Frigates and destroyers folded out of existance, and appeared behind the fleet moving to flank 5CN's task forces, the destroyers launched all ordinances, filling the sky in a heartbeat if fast moving plasma and fusion torpedoes. The interceptors met with the first wave of fighters and bombers, flying through the malstrom of laser beams and "missiles", the pilots expertly manuevering thier craft, pushing it the the limit of both human and mechanical endurance. Meanwhile the boarding parties move to thier Kamakazi boarding crafts, preparing to take the fight inside the Thuderstraat ships.

The Takian dropships hit the atmosphere, thier fighter and bomber escorts breaking ahead to clear a landing zone, while the gunships kept pace to skirmish any incoming fighters or bombers. still a long distance from the island, they dropped low and skimmed the water to avoid AA fire from shore.

The Marines loaded up their guns and biodarts, waiting for the assault...

Meanwhile, on the surface, Thunderstraat atmospheric fighters launched from the carriers. They soared toward the swarm of drophips, filling the air with radar-reflecting chaff and clogging Takian sensors.

Huge projectile cannon boomed from shore.
An enormous section of water behind the dropships turned into raging froth.

"Incoming kill sats sir, should we unleash ordinance?"

"make it so, full AA barrage, five rockets per pod, no more, I want to save a few for enemy bombers"

The radar screens flashed as the AS system input false readings for the missiles, showing the commanders on all sides where they would be, though the sheer number of them made individual counts impossible. 600 missile contacts flew towards the storm of incoming kill sats, each missile targeting and tracking the incoming ordinance. The two battlecruisers flung themselves at the Rinceweedian fleet, the 14 plasma lances scorring hit after hit against the lumbering crafts. The IDD's kicked in, flipping the ship around faster than would be thought possible for anything of its bulk. . . its weapons batteries had found range, and teh computer sent the simulation of 15 heavy weapon's batteries.

(note: Takian weapons batteries are a collection of high powered laser cannons, railgun emplacments, carbon bond buster missiles, and gama-radiation missiles.)

The marines grabbed thier modified rifles, and took the hand piece that would indicate a sword or knife wound. Dressed in thier armored space suits, they loaded into the Kamizkazi boarding crafts, the first entry units, a heavy boarding mecha and a trio of light boarding mecha were the last in, prepared to blaze a way through the coridors, as well as to shield the mariens from hostile inward fire. Courses were set to enter at airlocks and hangers, as well as lifepod slots, though under a real war they would simply cut through the hull and enter that way.

The gunships guarding the dropships disengaged to mark and skirmish with the incoming fighters. Though they lacked the manueverability of the smaller and faster atmospherice fighters and bombers, they made up for it with a 360 degree threat zone, and as the AA gunners took thier possition, the doors to the AA missile pods slid open, exposing the 25 AA missiles housed within. The dropships manuevered in quickly, burning at high speed towards the island, a few being marked as kills from the shore borne artiliary. the "dead" dropships carefuly changed corse, and headed towards the second island, ready to unload their soldiers for debriefing.

* * * * * *

The bombers streaked in, sighting the Remmonland's AA turrets as well as the Thunderstraatian artilary, ten continued to mark the AA guns, while the other ten changed course, ready to burn the artilary to molten slag. . . or at least score some virtual kills. The fighters split up as well, fifty with each group, though the lack of incoming enemy fighters was unnerving for the veterin pilots.

The rest of the Thunderstraat fighters launched from the carriers (we came ill-prepared for a land conflict) and attacked the bombers from above. The VTOL Thunderstraat bombers launched ridiculously fast and moved to hover near the Thunderstraat dropships. (I think my dropships are many times bigger than yours.)

((OOC: that can be a good thing or a bad thing, our dropships carry a platoon, or 40 troops, while our armor dropships carry 10 tanks each. This costs more as we need more ships, but each dropship we lose loses less men.))

The Takian fighters changed vectors, streaking up to meet the Thunderstraatian fighters, AA missiles gaining lock as the computer simulated a launch of two from each craft. They peppered the air infront of them with laser fire, giving the incoming Aircraft somthing else to dodge.
14-11-2003, 21:22
*as the first wave of takian bombers came to the surface the AC-1 guns retargetted them, since the dropships weren't in range yet, and opened simulated laser fire, aiming as per usual, for the engines and fuel tanks and they'd have the biggest chance of getting damaged*

The fighters drop infront of the bombers, taking the shots from the AA guns. A few register as kills, the pilots dropping thier craft and prepare to change course and land out of the way, though most register mearly as damage to the ships structure, not enough to severly hamper use or cripple the ship. of the bombers, only three fell to the AA fire, the rest of the casuties came from the fighter escorts. . . but now, it was thier turn. Firing up thier laser cannons the fighters strafed the turrets with their own laser fire, as the bombers carpeted the emplacements themselves with plasma torpedeos. The "charge" detonated, filling the hit areas with virtual flames, hot enough to melt the weapons had they been real.
15-11-2003, 18:22
*the president looked on the screen as several AC-1 batteries took hits from hostile weapons fire, the devices not built to withstand anything more then small arms fire and they immediatly registered as kills, the next moment a large red blob appeared over part of the troops, more then 20 AC-1 batteries being hit by the bomb*

*the rest of the AC-1 batteries continued to fire at the bombers even after they made their run and started on the retreat*

OOC: Heh, im actually at the north/north-east part of the island. Oh, and i'll probably post an update of the island map with all the current competitors locations on it later.

IC: On the ground Colonel Jant was getting his AA ready. The new AA laser tanks were pretty costly, but they were worth it. They had a full power range of 2 miles, after which the beams would only go to about 5 miles before becoming to weak to do any more than give someone a nice tan.

The things were positioning to fire on the Takian aircraft to help Remmonlands stop the aerial assault. The tanks had finished positioning now and were ready to fire. It would take less time than an eyeblink to hit a target. This camp only had 200 of the AA tanks, but they would be able to score quite a few hits each.

The barrels swiftly aimed at a shallow angle towards the remmonlands base and the dropships, fighters and bomber buzzing over it like a cloud of flies over a compost heap. The tanks barrels seemed to glow slightly red at their tips before red beams of light lanced out of them towards the enemy.

At this range the enemy could only just be seen, the tank crews relying mainly on the targeting computers to aim for them. The tanks kept firing at about one shot every 3 seconds, the speed more than making up for the fact that the area under the tanks was, in less than a minute, literally glowing from the heat created by the blasts of focused light. Even the tank crews inside modified haz-mat suits designed to withstand extreme heat had to be replaced every 5 minutes to stop them totally dehydrating.

In space the battle wasnt going too well. The fleet had been badly damaged, the only losses being about 79 fighters and 102 bombers returning to the dreadnoughts for storage after taking simulated fire too many times. The fleet quickly recalled all of its small craft, staying barely over the island, just enough for the ion cannon frigates to provide orbital strikes, but not close enough to give any more support than that. Basically, those people on the surface were on their own now.

Under heavy fire the remaining bombers flew in, the shots registering off of the armor, crippling almost all of teh bombers, leaving only three intact. The left and right ones broke off, bombing the heaviest formation of tanks with thier plasma charges, while the middle bomber flew over the middle of the shoreside firebase, dropping its single fusion bomb *think fuel air bomb*. The survivors climbed high to orbit, returning to the carrier for rearming, the torn ranks of the fighters joining them.

* * * * *

The two battlecruisers, scared but not damaged baddly in the battle turned thier attention onto the Ion Frigates, preparing to finish off the Rinceweedian fleet if at all possible.

The 5CN attack fighters twirled in the air as they evaded AA fire, returning fire with missiles, assault cannons, and pulse cannons. Of the dropships, one is taken out of action but the concentrated fire of Thunderstraatian AA fire. Two more were badly damaged and forced to abort the landing. The remainder landed, some safely and some crash landing. As soon as the dropships landed, 5CN troops poured out of the dropships covered by fighters and assault gunships.

In space, the Bellephron was taken out of action by the fake-nuclear barrage. The instruments were gone and the Bellephron went offline. The Perseus was also badly damaged and began to drift, but the trained crew of the vessel brought the vessel back under control and began to pilot the vessel behind the Takian vessels. Meanwhile, the Neptune with its modified Taim XV fusion engines evaded much of the fire, although some of the nukes had damaged communications and scanners. The Neptune did a barrel-roll and began attacking the Glamstraat with its beam and pulse cannons, while firing missiles.
Thunderstraat
18-11-2003, 19:27
The Glamstraat responded with a huge barrage of laser cannon, twenty firing at once form the central sphere. Missiles impacted on the outer armor, but a few got through and hit the sphere. Lasers began failing and stuttering. The last fighter around the mighty capital ship dropped offline, leaving it alone with the 5CN battle vessels.

On the ground, the TS bombers began a barrage of the landed dropships. Ground troops attacked the 5CN troops with energy guns and shoulder-mounted missiles.
Five Civilized Nations
18-11-2003, 19:50
The majority of the shots fired by the Glamstraat missed the Neptune. But two struck home, but the energy was absorbed by the vessel. the Neptune made another pass on the Glamstraat, flying through the hole surrounding the center, while firing pulse and beam cannons and shield and armored piercing missiles.

On the ground, the troops spread out and began to return fire. Overhead, 5CN gunships and fighters attacked adding to the carnage... 5CN fighters began making attack runs against the bombers.

ooc/ hmm, appears everyone is RPing his/her entire army/fleet, i'm instead mainly RPing the president in the command center, only adding pieces of the actaul army's actions in when i have to /ooc

*the president walked around the table to take a look at what was happening over at 5CN's base, the remmonlands military had finished digging in, on the background several scientists had been discussing how to make a weapon capable of firing into space, a discussion which had apparently paid off as the lead scientist walked up to the president (the 2 are close friends)*

scientist: guess what, we solved it, with your permission we'd like to produce a full scale prototype high power energy discharge weapon (aka MASER)

me: perfect, assign all availble personell to testing that system, no wait, how sure are you about that weapon ?

scientist: well, it's never been tried but we think this design will work *points to a large screen computer which is currently displaying the schematics of what appeared to be an LLAV, had it not been for the fact it was bigger and had a massive turret on top*

me: very well, produce a prototype, rig it for the wargames and send it to the front, there is no time to waste as our allies might be losing the space battle. I'm certain they'll appreciate a little help

scientist: okay, i'm on it *runs over to the other scientists, which promptly take a disc from the computer and rush out of the room*

*the president then heads back over to the screen, the 3 remaining AC-1 lasers had been dug in much better then the previous installations and would hopefully last a lot longer, someone else had managed to figure out that an SC-1 laser will work against low flying aircraft as well and instructions where being relayed across the field while the AC-1's once more opened fire, this time at the bombers and fighters which where attacking 5CN*

ooc/ yes, a Maser prototype in a few turns, it will be delivered by a simple hovercraft /ooc

Orders were sent to use underwater vents to create a huge mock geothermal power plant. Once this was operational, in about a day, the AA defenses would be nearly impenetrable. If the ground troops could hold out that long...

"Sir! The Glamstraat is under heavy attack! And that battleship has evasion routines like we've never seen!"
"Record those. Record everything! We'll need these when we mass-produce the rest of the fleet. And order the rest of the Earth Fleet to the Glamstraat. We can't let it go down."
"Yes, sir."

((*tickticktick*
OK, let's take this to a new level. 5CN is on the ground in my base, but in 24 hours my AA will be pretty near invincible. I need my allies to send major support. The attackers will have one day to overrun my base. The defenders will have one day to keep the attackers from overrunning my base. Destroying me won't be that easy, I have a few tricks up my sleeve yet.))

5CN troops began apparantly dissappearing. Dozens of men dropped from site.
Exclamations were made; had Thunderstraat invented some strange new dimensional fold weapon or something?
The result was actually very low tech.
Holes.
Hundreds of holes had been dug in the island soil. For the purposes of the war games they didn't have any spikes, but they took soldiers out of action nonetheless.

The Takian dropships hit the beach, just a few minutes after thier 5CN allies had begun storming thier possitions. Skirting sidways under the lessened artillary fire, they landed hard on the soft sand, the marrines inside swarming out and thickening the fire against anyone they encounter. The gunships roared overhead, finishing off any AA batteries that hadn't been destroyed in the initial bomber raids before working to pound enemy strongpoints, lacing through them with nose-turret mounted railguns and underwing plasma torpedeos.

* * * * *

In space, the two battlecruisers turned at the Ion frigates, while the Takian frigates and destroyers locked weapons batteries and plasma lances on the Thunderstraat fleet, swarming around them and covering them with fire.

Major General Joshua Reynolds cursed colorfully as the first battalion of his troops blundered into the holes. In fury, Reynolds ordered his army to fall back and wait for the hovertanks to move up and continue the offensive.

The Neptune took a few hits, but the gunners aboard the Glamstraat were taken by surprise... The Perseus limped behind a Takian battleship to hide for repairs...

OOC: The only reason, my vessel can do that, is because its small compared to yours...

((Actually, my flagship is pretty small for its power.))
The two "Snark"-class battleships combined with the remaining fighters to blast their way through the swarming vessels. It was a suicide mission - or so the enemies thought. The battleships concentrated their fire on the ships around the Glamstraat. One, pounded by hostile weaponry, dropped offline. The other escorted the Glamstraat around one of the planetoids. Missiles and lasers terminated harmlessly (if this had been real, it would have been just as harmless) on the rocky surface. Robots and space-suited men began working ridiculously fast on the "damages."

"The're bringing up hover tanks, sir!"
"Good! Bring up ours."
The battalion of Thunderstraat hover tanks rolled out of the dropships. They began moving harmlessly over the holes toward 5CN's offensive. Meanwhile, volunteers began popping up near the enemy tanks, placing mines and other explosives on the surfaces of as many tanks as they could. At a signal, all explosives were detonated, destroying (you name it)% of the tanks.

The "Tercel"-class frigates that the Snarks were hiding in massed in one area, creating a miniature asteroid field. They opened fire with their IR missiles, then began firing with the BB cannon. Millions of small, charged projectiles began ripping through space, colliding with the Takian fleet.

((I have heard rather often that at orbital speeds, a grain of sand can take down a satellite. The BB shot is maybe twice the sand grain size, plus there's no way to evade them.))

OOC: Im baaa-aaack! Oh, and Taka, we heard you the first time  . And Remmonlands, you're not the only one to mainly do the person commanding rather than RPing what he/she is commanding.

IC: 'Sir, our allies are piling into the enemy fleet, should we help them?'
'Of course Grant! We need everyone working together to win this!'
'Yes sir, i'll have all ships aid in the attack at once'
'Wrong. You will NOT do that. Like i said before, we need those ion cannons to give our people on the planet some support. Have the ion cannons start the orbital barrages on whatever we can hit on the enemy side, and have all of our other capital ships and small craft support our allies space forces. Oh, and have those bombers been refitted yet?'
'Yes sir. They are totally fitted for carrying our special forces, plus they have the ability to fly in space. Unfortunately they cant fly from the planet to space or vice versa. They dont have heat shielding and dont have sufficient engine power to go against gravity that much, but if we can get a few aero-space fighters down here they could get one of the bombers up into the space battle, where, well, they could do what they do best.'
'I like the way you think. Make it so. Oh, and what about the battle on the ground?'
'Were holding our ground, and few attacks have been made on us, but we should really start sending support to our allies before the ground attacks intensify too much'
'Yet again Grant, make it so. Now, you are dismissed.'
Grant stood to attention and did a sharp salute. 'Yes Sir!' Said Grant before he walked out of the command room to give the orders out to the fleet and to the ground forces.

Some of the men that fell into the holes began popping up and firing Hellfire III Missiles at the approaching hovertanks. Meanwhile, the explosions took out 15 of the tanks of the 100 tanks involved. The surviving tanks were surrounded immediately by infantry. Meanwhile, gunships began to pound away at the approaching hovertanks.

ITN bombers soared low over the approaching army, dropping napalm and firing mini-gamma soak weapons. The tightly-packed 5CN army was the perfect target.

Torpedoes hit the asteroid vessels, blasting huge chunks of rock into space but not making much of an effect. Timed pulses redirected the fragments back at the Takian forces. A very large plasma shield began to be set up.

Yes captain? the AS system responded, a noticable lag in its responce. Orders?

"Your damned right I have orders, find these hackers, trace the signal back and send a 10 MW charge via laser pulse on the return chanel, I want those hacking computers to be piles of SLAG!!"

I'm afraid I can't do that captian

"What did you say?"

Good by captian With that, sentry turrets dropped from the ceilings of the infected ships, three of the remaining fifteen frigates, and fired on the command crew. The captian continued cursing long after his transponder labled him as KIA

"Mark my words Tyre, when we get back to dock, I'm going to put in to have your memory wiped, COMPLETLY!!"

Relax captain, its just a game, besides, they only "infected" three ships, the rest of the fleet will be able to carry on to victory. I'm setting a course to return to base, and Captain, might I recomend giving me some sort of early detection for future hacking attempts? I can only fight off what I see coming

"make it so Tyre. . . make it so."

The captain sat in his command chair, sullenly upset that his own ship had "killed" him.

'Denied. If we do, they'll be unable to give orbital barrages till we re-position them. Simply get everything we have defending them. And are those fighter we sent down brining up the modified bombers yet?'
'Uh, the bombers are already in our dreadnoughts fighter bays sir'
'Excellent...excellent....have them begin the attack Grant. Time to see how well they can do in space combat. Oh, and remember, EVERYTHING we have has to be defending those frigates. Everything. And, uh, in this war game, can we still use our fighters self-destruct mechanisms?'
'I beleive so sir, but why would we want to do that?'
'General Grant, dare I say, i have a plan?'
'Yes you may sir'
'Grant, it was a rhetorical quest-....oh nevermind. Listen, since the enemy bombers have slackened off a bit, i have a question. Those AA tanks we have. Are they firing at full power?'
'Of course not sir. If we fired at full power we might actually kill people'
'But at say a 50 mile distance, would firing at full power still provide enough force to do any damage'
'Sir, firing at full power directly into the ground would create a hole 200 miles deep in 7 seconds before the tank exploded into the equivelant of a contained nuclear explosion'
'So the answer is yes then?'
'Yes it is sir. Am i right in saying you want to target the enemy space craft sir?'
'You have a very quick mind Grant. Remind me never to trust you''
'Yes sir. Should i have the AA tanks start getting ready to target the enemy space forces?'
'Yes you should. Now get to it'
'Yes Sir!'

OOC: Just so ya know, the modified bombers wont actually attack you. Instead there gonna fly towards the enemy fleets and....well, i wont spoil the surprise. I'll just tell you as i go along. And one last thing. They bombers have front mounted chaff launchers as well as back mounted, so, well, i have (another) plan.
20-11-2003, 20:17
((Thank you for playing along with that))
"We've disabled three ships with the hackers, sir."
"Only three? We need to get those out of there FAST."
He ordered the ships to scatter, run as fast as they can, and use BB cannon on any Takian ships they ran into. He also ordered them to try to take down as many 5CN ships as possible. The space battle was as good as over.

"Yes, we're taking notes."
"How long until we can mimic the Takian shields?"
"Sixty years, if we make a huge breakthrough, take back New Jupiter, and give every scientist on Kurushio Prime a big raise."

As for our shields, we have two types, the HEPD fields for physical barrages, and the absorbtion shields for energy attacks.))

Interesting, I do that too. I actually thought that war a German accent, since, as an ex-German student, I know that "der" is a form of "the". Anyway, back to IC...

Bulrond looked out over the camp. A lot had taken place in the last week, and already, most of the main battle group was in place. Unfortunately, a saboteur managed to cut the MSRA communication lines, isolating the entire group from the rest of the world (OOC: a RP explanation for my absence).

Suddenly, a young enlisted soldier approached the admiral. "Sir! Radar indicates enemy tanks closing from the northwest!"
"How far away are they?"
"No more than 60 miles, sir!"
Bulrond thought for a moment. "Alright, let me see the radio." He jogged to the radio and said, "Attention all air units! This is Bulrond. I want the 45th bombers in the air pronto, all wings and escorts. We've got Takian bogeys on the ground to the northwest; keep an eye out for AA guns. God speed."

With that, hundreds of fighter and bomber crews ran to the landing strip and strapped into their planes. One by one, they all took off, following their new orders.

Unexpectedly, Bulrond's walkie-talkie sounded. "Bulrond! What's all this about Takian bogeys?" It was Rear Admiral Otto Scheimweis.
"You heard that right, Otto. Takians. But hold your positions for now."
"Yes, sir. We'll keep our eyes peeled."

"damnit, can the fleet pinpoint what they are?"

"negative sir, we are showing inbounds are already mobile. . . it looks like fighter bombers. . . orders?"

"deploy all tanks into cover, prepare stingers for barrage as soon as w ehave lock. . ."

The tanks rummbled beside the path, the Raiders opening the stinger missile bays on the sides, and scanning the skys for lock ons. as soon as the aircraft were in range, the tanks fired a full volley, before tearing down the trail to avoid counterfire.

Azrael looked over at the Thunderstraatian general in the shared command room, and walked over to him, extending his hand.

"she put up a hell of a fight, and that was a downright brilliant play with the hackers. . . given time, you will be a hell of a force. I couldn't help but notice that your ships lack shielding. . . perhaps we could exchange notes some time, we are always interested in helping possible allies out."
21-11-2003, 04:54
As the 45th neared the Takian armored groups, one of the fighter pilots noticed something small coming toward the planes... Several small somethings, for that matter. Just a moment later, the computer identified them as Stinger missiles and tank shells.

He radioed his fellow pilots: "Incoming missile fire at ten o'clock! Shoot 'em down!" The fighters immediately broke ranks and started unloading their guns on the missiles, desperately trying to keep them from the bombers. They were met with limited success, and a few bombers fell from the sky, their crews ejecting on their way down. Meanwhile, the bombers began dropping JDAMs on the Takian convoys, and some called for Tomahawks from the cruisers in the bay. No word yet on whether this request was accepted.

Meanwhile, back at the command post, an arny technician saw a flashing light on his communications board. "Looke like a Thunderstraat signal," he thought. He ran to get Admiral Bulrond.
"Sir! Looks like our counterstrike has been noticed. The commanders from Thunderstraat are hailing us."
"Thunderstraat? Let me see this." The admiral hustled to the comm-post, as it was popularly known.
"This is Bulrond. What is it?"

((OK, I gotcha. The only reason they got through at all was because there were so many, right? Oh, and they're armor-piercing. Most of my projectile weapons have mini-shield generators. And my ultra-powerful AA is protecting my bombers.))

Huge AA cannon blasted lasers at the incoming attack helicopters. The massive lasers' minimum power was so powerful it actually fused the rotors of one of the helicopters. Tank-mounted missiles began firing at the 5CN mobile suits, and titanium webs were wrapped around Aegis legs by some missiles, others simply exploded (virtually of course.)
"Sir! Taka's coming in with more tanks!"
"Fall back to the dropships! And power up the dropship weapons!"
Originally intended to blast debris below the dropships, the projectile cannon thudded not-too-accurately into the army.

OOC: Thunderstraat, don't RP the damage done to my units... Because you did, I'm gonna ignore your previous post about the damage done... And don't make up new technologies and stuff... That's godmodding...

IC:

A dozen additional helicopters were brought down by AA. Meanwhile, hundreds of rockets, missiles, and other what not were being fired at Thunderstraat's artillery and the tanks.

The Aegis using their verniers flew into the Thunderstraatian armored column and with their beam machine guns and head vulcans began to tear it apart. Overhead, helicopters and attack fighters added to the carnage.

The Pegasus took up a position off the coast of the island and began to add to the massed 5CN firepower with its capital ship weapons...

'....Dammit. Do it. The men up in space will have to wait.'
'Aye sir'

The barrels of the AA tanks swung down again towards the new threats, back to the normal power output for the wargames and started to fire on the enemy before suddenly stopping at the order of the colnel.
'Wait, stop! I have an idea!'
'What sir?'
'Charge them up to armageddon power! Show the enemy no mercy! Mwahahaha!'

"Understood, Thunderstraatian commander. We'll send over what we can."
Bulrond turned from the radio to one of his colonels. "Jack, what can we spare to defend the Thunderstraatian AA installations?"
"Well, sir, we still have four bomber squadrons on the ground, and we could probably send two. Adding a fighter squadron would help defend them."
"OK, then, get the 19th and sixth bombers over to the Thunderstraatian positions, along with the 212th fighters, ASAP."
"Yes, sir!" And with that, the colonel went off to scramble the squadrons.

Meanwhile, the 45th bombers were still bombarding the Takian armored divisions, but were running low on bombs. It wouldn't be long before they would have to return to base for rearming, but the extra provisions that arrived every other day contained plenty of new bombs.

Suddenly, true to his nature, Bulrond called to Admiral Spiker aboard the Alkirk. "Spiker! This is Bulrond. What's your status out there?"
It took a moment for Spiker to respond. "Well, John, we're just sitting pretty. We haven't seen any bandits on the horizon... yet."
"Good. Listen, I have an idea. What if we sent the second subs to meet the Takian ships? How much damage d'ya think we could cause?"
"Well, sir, if our subs stay out of their reach, we could do some damage..."
"Dammit, Brent, I'm not worried about keeping them out of range. What if we drive them straight into the middle of the fleet?"
Spiker was stunned. "Uh, well sir, then we could really hurt 'em."
"Good. Send them out."
"Right away, sir." With that, the incredulous admiral sent word to the Second Submarine Group to head for the center of the Takian fleet. "I just hope they make it alright," he thought to himself.

er, the Takian ocean bound fleet consits of six LA class attack subs, just so ya know. When I've been saying fleet I'm refering to the space fleet *points up* them.

IC: the front group was hit in the initial barrage, six raider tanks reading destroyed or disabled in the first bomb blast. The remainder scrambled as the bombers finished ther attack run, powering down ten more in the first pass, as well as knocking out three Squallems, and evne an Appocolypse class super heavy tank showed a tread thrown by a nearby hit. As the craft returned, the tanks were ready, the stinger missiles sending up anouther barrage, as Takian snipers prepared to fire their TA-20's (20mm sniper rifles, the inside of the bullets tehy are firing would normaly be filled with explosives and thermite, sending a film of thermite, which burns at about half the heat of nuclear fission around the impact area) targeting the cockpits, fuel tanks, and any exposed explosives on the planes.

OK, thanks for the info Taka. I'll let you decide when to engage my subs. That should make the battle interesting... And Alpha, I'm afraid this is an invite-only wargame, as the title says.

The fighter pilots were about ready to freak out. A small hail of thermite and explosive bullets was heading for the bombers, along with the usual Stingers. One thought to radio back to base.
"Base! We have thermite bullets chasing us! We've gotta get those snipers out of pla--" With that, the young pilot was destroyed with his plane, as were thirteen of his compatriots. The bombers tried evasive maneuvers, but six still went down. Conveniently, though, the few that weren't hit in the cockpit did their best to aim at the remaining front-line tanks while falling. There were certainly some nasty explosions when they crashed.

When Bulrond heard of the thermite bullets, he was furious. "Thermite?! This is a major threat to our air forces! We must get rid of those snipers! But how...?"
One of his many aides spoke up. "Sir, uh, what if we send out a mechanized divvie? They could break through the Takian tank lines and sock it to those snipers."
"Brilliant! You just earned yourself a promotion. Send out the Ninth." Immediately, the 5320 soldiers of the Ninth Mechanized, who had not been deployed at the defense perimeter, scrambled to their tanks and began the move out. Bulrond also ordered the artillery at the perimeter to fire "a few volleys" at the Takian tanks -- "to soften them up," as he put it.

With the airforce retreating, the Takians moved the vehiclels marked destryed off the main road, the troops inside upset they would not be able to continue the war. A powerful Appocolypse class too the lead, its twin barrels pointing the way towards Thunderstraat.

"sir, we are picking up incoming. . . ground forces, they look mobile."

"get our light armor inside the collums, and get our troops to APC's, I'd rather they not be caught in the middle of a tank battle without some armor around them." He thought for a moment, "I've got an idea, open the side tubes on the Appocolypse tanks, send a volley of the earthshak. . ." he was cut off as several tanks cut off from the sides, rhe screens reading "artilary barrage" "What the hell?" Triangulate where that came from, redirrect five tanks to lay down an earth shaker barrage in return."

The side flaps opened, and a barrage of 50 200 mm earth shaker rockets towards the artillary, the guidance systems homing in on thier targets before marking the area as having been hit.

OOC: Fug it. I'll just have to guess.

The 40 refitted bombers screeched from the landing bays of the dreadnoughts, carrying their deadly payload towards the 5CN space fleet. The bombers dodged and weaved as they went, their 100 fighter escort mimicing them to try and avoid the enemy fire.

Meanwhile the ion cannon frigates started the barrage, blasting behind the 5CN front lines to help Thunderstraat's charge at them. The dreadnoughts positioned themselves and the enemy fleets and started to open fire, missiles blasting out of the launchers towards the Neptune and the charged ion cannons lancing brilliant beams of blue light across its hull.

On the ground the AA guns aimed upwards again, this time on half power to allow them to blast their current target. The Perseus, blasting at the Thunderstraat forces suddenly came under fire from 600 heavy laser AA tanks. The red beams would, on full power, been able to have blasted a hole through the ship in a matter of seconds at this range, but only half power was allowed, the lasers firing in groups of 20, each group targeting a different weapons system on the 5CN ship.

Back in space, the bomber pilots signaled to their occupants to prepare for boarding as they got to 500 metres from the 5CN ships, the bombers all going for the Neptune, the fighters energy core's starting to increase in power and the emergency escape devices on each fighter was prepared to be used.

Back in the air of the planet, the 500 mirage fighters and 1500 basic fighters flew towards the Perseus, making sure to stay awa /y from the beams from the AA tanks. As they got closer each fighter launched a single unguided missile at the huge ship, making a total of 2000 missiles all streaking towards the giant target that was the ship. With all fire form it directed towards the Thunderstraat forces, it was no more than a giant target. The fighters then pulled off until they were 600m away from the ship before turning around for the next attack run.

And the best part was, there was much more to come.

OOC: Taka, i still have both my dreadnoughts and a large chunk of my fighters and bombers protecting those ion cannon frigates. The reason i dont want them to attack you is that once they have a lock on a ground target then break lock, it would take a while to reaquire the lock-on.

IC: 'Sir, enemy battleships incoming. Should we divert some of our bombers to attack?'
'Yes, but keep the escorts going towards the enemy battlecruiser. We want to take that bastard out before moving on to the Takian fleet'
'Yes Sir' picks up microphone 'This is General Grant of the Dreanought Taciturnus Perditor speaking. Transport bombers 10 to 20, break off the attack and head for the center battlecruiser attacking the ion cannon frigates'
'This is gold leader. We copy your order and are having bombers 10 to 20 break off to go for centre enemy battlecruiser'
'Good luck, and...' And here Grant smirked 'Lock all S-Foils in attack position!'
'With all due respect sir, fuck off'

And with that parting remark the comm system cut off, leaving a raging Grant holding the mic.

In the atmosphere the fighters came round for another attack to finish off the enemy ship, launching another salvo of missiles then closing it to riddile it with bullets.

On the ground the troops finally got the order to move out, quickly heading out on foot and in tank towards the 5CN troops to take them out before they finally snapped out of their stupor.

Meanwhile, the Perseus, having taken heavy AA fire, began to shudder. The docking bay popped open and several emergency transports landed on the island, filled with personnel. The badly damaged Perseus limped towards the coast and the relative protection of the submarines.

The 5CN ground troops continued its withering fire upon the approaching enemy as the missile fire from the submarines increased. Overhead, the F-39C Corsairs and the attack helicopers began to pull back, because of the AA fire.

'If you say so sir'
General Grant picked up a comm mic and spoke sharply into it, saying 'This is General Grant. Commence Operation 'Lance''.
On the surface, 500 Turrets came online. Each turret was an Ion Cannon, which although hadn't been used yet in the wargames, was now more than ready to do some damage.
Each turret swivelled to a vertical angle, and a slight hum was heard in the air as each one prepared to fire. People nearby felt a slight tingling sensation as their hair stood on end.
The area seemed to suddenly be devoid of life for an instant before the turrets fired in unison, each one blasting a stream of compressed ion at its target. Each turret had the same target.
The Takian battleships.

General Grant grinned as he looked out a viewport to see the 500 beams accelerate at an incredible speed towards the takian battleships, each powerful enough to punch a hole right through one, but due to the wargame restrictions, they had been downgraded to only turn a few inches of armor plating into slag. This should be good.

The streamers of blue death shot up towards the Takian battlecruisers, the shields slamming around it as the generators simulated diverting and slowing the energy into containment fields, where it was condenced further into mass through energy converters. The generators shuddered with each hit, going off line one at a time. The first shield faltered and fell, the second dropped to 20% power as the attack fell off, the battlecruisers reeling from such a sudden attack.

"Damn it. . ." The admiral screamed at his men "where the hell did that come from?"

"planet side sir, should we pull back before they can reload?"

"negative, remove the safetly locks on the Nova Cannon, prepare the dud shell and get the AI to accept its damage capacity, have our sistership keep at those Ion Frigates, we are going to nose down and let them taste orbital artilary at its very best."

"sir?!?!"

"DO IT OR I'LL HAVE YOUR BALLS FOR LUNCH ENSIGN"

"Yes Sir!" the young man barked, inputting the orders which sent the massive hulk spinning in space. Nose towards the ground, the targeting computers struggeled at extreme range to pick up thier targets, finaly locking on moments before a second volley could be fired.

"Give them brimstone. . . "

"ordinace away"

The hunk of the battlecruiser shook as the MAC cannon fired blankly, a single laser light streaming to the surface, and the center of the Ion cannon turrets, transmiting the data of a Takatanium Charge to the surface. The AI slowed visibly as it powered down those struck, and calculated damage, as it reported the air at the center of impact had frozen solid, the temperature hitting near absolute zero at imact, and covering a wide portion of the ground. A nuke, an area was marked off where all electronics cesed to function, the exposed parts frozen into hte air, made brittle by what would have been intence cold, or simply powered down as the electrons slowed to a near stop in thier conductors. The command chamber flashed a warning, and Azrael dropped his computer at the scene before him. The island had just dropped several degrees, and laying where the Rinceweedian base had been was a mass of frozen air in the unmistakable shape of mushroom cloud. Though he knew it was simply a war game, and that no lives had been lost, he was still shocked to silence at the awesome power that had been unleashed.

((OOC: Takian High command does not consider this a weapon of mass destruction, belive me, if I used the WMD version of this the entier island would become a snowball, so I would appreciate it if you do not retaliate by nuking the island. Then again, if oyu want to shoot ICBM's at the Takian fleet, you are welcome to as space battles have different rulesets than ground actions. Rinceweed, sorry man, thats the only thing I've got that can respond. . . hope that wasn't your main base, otherwise you might be running a "whats left" campain from here out.))

OOC: I'll do my post later, but i can't help but say this. Read back to the sign up thread and you might see something fun. Each ion cannon is the equivalent of a large bomb going of in heat for every second it is firing. We have to pump ridiculous quantitys of coolant into it so it doesn't simply explode after a few seconds, and even then 10 seconds of firing is like a volcano.

But, well, guess what wins on a battle between heat and ice. Oh how i suddenly love those turrets main disadvantage. Plus, now that they are supercooled, they can't aim as well, but, well, ya didn't move, Guess what comes next. Just....i don't know, cover the ship in a fridge. It's yer best bet against this stuff.

Of course, if you miraculously get your shields back on-line (Which i won't complain about if ya do), then...well, i don't know, modify the phase variance, you could direct the beams right back at me. Oh, and that is my main base, but most of my forces have already left, so it won't matter too much, but it would be fun to fight a guerilla battle against ya.

((accualy, the air around them has solidified, meaning that when you fire the light will be diffracted all around your turrets, and will be disperced harmlessly around, as well as the fact that any unhardened circutry that isn't also well insulated has just been frozen to the point where it won't work, think EMP field.))

OOC: Actually, it's the heat im happy about, not the light. Heat+Ice style stuff=Big puddle.

erm, I dont think you are comprehending how cold this is. . . . that "ice" is solidified hydrogen, oxogen, nitrogen, ect. Its near absolute zero, and at absolute zero mass stops moving all togehter, meaning electron bonds are broken, and mass disentergrates. . . unless you follow the Hawkins Superstring theory, in which case it meary ceases to exist. Your weapons stop working because they are either frozen solid, meaning clogged exit points, electrical flow is stopped because the electrons literaly slow down unless well insulated.

Well fug. I do have one way around this, but it's kinda risky. So, you've basically fired a freeze nuke thingy? Well, remember those Ion Cannon Frigates? They are in space, and so not affected. I wonder if a few blasts from those would work. To imagine their power, imagine an ion cannon turret, except magnify it by a few hundred. The main drawback is that the entire ship has to turn towards its target to aim at it, since the ship is basically a giant ion cannon with an engine attached.

basicly, as for the ion frigates, they would most likely work, but it might work too well, cutting through not only the ice, but the turrets too

OOC: Feh, I think I have a way around that. Oh, and remember, Near absolute isn't absolute zero. Although my ion cannons are more or less useless, they can (very) slowly heat themselves up. PLUS the ice cloud will already have started to heat up bit by bit. In about 5 hours, it would be to a much more pleasent -50 degrees. At that temp my ion cannons can quite easily function and heat up the rest of the air and, well, start firing again. And one last PLUS, my troops on the ground have big guns as well as small arms. We can probably just blast our way through the ice.
Ah well, one more PLUS. Those ion cannon frigates arent gonna need the main engines anymore, just the thrusters for turnin. And guess what something like an exploding engine and its power source will do to the giant super ice cloud.
