OOC: I miss the old days...

I miss all the old crew from back in WW5.. GDODAD met its match against the CDA.. Can anyone honsetly remember the good ole' days when the role play was GOOD in this forum? Back when random invasions and annexations did not result in 5 pages of flame, 2 pages of partial war, and 1 mod locking the thread.. I want to organize a group of old timers to stick together, RP together, ally together in hopes of setting examples for younger nations to follow and get the good ole days back.

Just Remember: THIS IS A GAME, anything that 'happens' to your nation is only in people imaginations. You can always say that one rl day = 100 years and your nation is revived.. thats the fun in Role Play. Please, RP just about anything that is not completely out of wack.
Nations I would like to join:
Klamath [now geforce4 thanks to me]
The bisons [not dark terror]
Sniper Country [still sniper country]
Bartondom
Automagfreek
Pantera

*shrug*
I was never around for the "good old days", I guess.
But I have been changing my RP a lot lately. Giving up space fleets, and restructuring everything to make it more fair for better RP...
I do know Pantera, he's in APTO, our reigon. Great RPer.

But anything to get rid of horrible RP would be great.

I have to agree with at least part of your point. It seems as if all of the epic scale wars and craziness has given way to

1. Unnecessary storefronts, with much Godmodding concerning prices
2. Revolutions that die after one page
3. Somewhat pointless "my folks take down some terrorists, come and comment" threads

And so on. This is partly because, I believe, that all the "old folks" now have nations far too large for them to want to risk in war, and they know that if it is destroyed in an RP, folks are going to hold them to that destruction. This forum is no longer a group of friends hanging out together. There are others who will intrude on the wars, mess stuff up all over the place, and generally aggrevate the good RP'er part of the NS population. Sad it is...

To disagree, however, I must hold that Geforce4 (Klamath the spammer returns) and the Bisons/Dark Terror are perhaps some of the worst RP'ers in this game. Every thread they touch turns into Godmodding, arguing, IGNORING garbage, and the extortion racket they used to run (if they haven't stopped) was one of the most poorly-RP'ed turds these forums have ever seen.

Sniper County, AMF, and Pantera, I have seen, are all excellent RP'ers. Please do not put them and Bartondom, whom I have not seen in action, in the company of those other idiots.

Skeptism:

I must agree. In the old days we were a big bunch of friends OOC that foungh IC for fun because Role Playing, not winning, is what this game is about. Of course winning your first battle is gold, but going syhco flamer over a nuke is.. well.. wrong. You're letting a fun game make your life hell.

Nationstates is a whole new world. I have made many friends on these forums..

Well We should formalize something... Maybe, if people are willing to leave their regions, for a new region and declare it a world of its own, seperate from the others.

Meh, lets brainstorm something up shall we?

I remember the Amerigo Slave Wars. I remember Russian Forces tangling with Osturia-Hungarii over the Independance of Azerbaijan, and the appearance of Pantera in the Black Sea to aid the Azeri's. I remember the first 'space' nations leaving the earth, and the flood of pole-smokers who followed in thier footsteps. I remember the WMNK evolving from a bunch of jackasses who would degrade the newbs into helpful, quality RPers. I remember modless forums and the cascade of shit that would run through here nightly. I remember the first of the Mods, and how they stemmd the tide of shit

I remember RPing, Naked, for an entire night, but I bet none of you do...

My $ky11z have been recognized!

I'll be more than happy to sign your list, but I won't be leaving my region for any reason at any time, and I'm with Skept when I wonder what the fuck DT and Klamath's(who I'll admit has improved immensely) names are doing on the same list as mine... *gives a haughty sniff*

In all seriousness, I miss the good ole days as well. It seems to me that slowly but surely the quality level of the RolePlaying had plummeted since summer began. More and more newbs and General forum scum are flocking to NS, while the Roleplayers and storytellers slip away. It fucking sucks, and I hate it.

I think about leaving alot, but then I think back to what I've created here, the stories I've told and the future that's there, just begging me to shape and mold it with a taste of Blood, Rape and Fire. I always convince myself to stay, and short of my own death, or that of 2 billion Reavers, I'm here for good.

So, when the last good RPer dies a horrible, bullet riddled and glorious death to the hordes of n00bs, MC's, Bison's, and Vampires, be watching for me. Because I'll still be here. Kicking ass, holding strong, and telling my stories.

Keep kicking ass.

GDODAD, now thats going back a long time...

Anyway, I have only ever been in one good RP war, it was a sub conflict of the Russian Forces/ADK wars, it was basically me and Lowland Clans vs Endless Crimes and Iraqstan, and basically we nuked it out for control of Gibralter, a good WWII/Modern style conflict, sadly Endless Crimes and Iraqstan withdrew and once ADK started godmodding to hell I left, I have thus since been seeking out another war as good as that one.

So I would be interested in joining your RP leigon.

Well. I am a bit young of a nation in my eyes. By the time I was a trusted roleplayer (about in May) n00bs had already hijacked this site and mods were needed. However, I will join because I was founded in March (March 16th), when there was roleplaying decency (people stopped me from fighting in my first week or two).

I am back because all of these younger nations think I'm some kind of legendary player (I only had one or two good roleplays and a few stickies.) and I decided to set an example by getting my other nation (a new nation called Sancto) to resurrect this one.

EDIT: If n00bs would respect anyone and listen to someone and stop godmoding, they'd respect a nation with a reputation.

The problem these days is that not enough people seem to realize that the point of the game isn't to win or lose, it's just to play to the game. I really shouldn't be talking though. I am not much of an RP-er and I am pretty new.

Here's what I miss about the old days: people weren't so overly fucking critical about everything. Nowadays, you can't do shit without people hounding you about how it's not realistic, how it dosen't conform to their standards. I swear to God, everybody on NS: now has top secret US government access, is a quantum physics genius, a military expert, a high ranking NASA official, and so on. I swear, everybody's an expert now.

I'm sick of people dictating to me what I can and cannot do. It fucking pisses me off that every little thing I do is criticized by a vast majority of NS players. Some of you dickheads have no friggin life, you must sit on your computer for days and study nuclear fission/fusion, deep space, and other bullshit that normal people could care less about. In your quest for "better RP", you've alienated those that aren't uber geniuses, and it sickens me. In the old days, people were allowed to do stuff that was considered not true to present day life. Now, you can't make a new caliber bullet without some fucking ballistics expert ( ) shooting you down.

Screw that, I come here to have fun, not to have some shit face yell at me because I play by my rules.
10-11-2003, 04:29
Auto, I understand where you're coming from, and I agree largely. I personally don't really care about the 'realism' of something, so long as it isn't unbalancing or absolutely ridiculous. WHere the problem lies, IMO, is in ignoring others, especially for tech level reasons; when you so, you're opening the door to people attacking your own stuff for the same reason you ignored there's. When you ignore someone for having futuretech, while have this kind of technology yourself (albeit in a more limited form), it does seem fairly hypocritical.

I hope this doesn't come off as an attack on you; in insn't meant to be. It is mrerely my own observations of NS mechanics and relationships.

As for Auto's post... well... that was... hm... I have no idea quite how to describe the fact that I've never been so terrified of a computer screen. First time in my life text actually "felt" mad.

Yeah, I agree with what he says, actually. I am an advocate of realism, but the only time I'll ever nail someone in the head with it is if they're a 5 million nation with a brand new Buran space shuttle. Other than that, realism nuts will make me have the urge to set things on fire. Break things, stuff like that.

I suppose that's almost a hypocritical statement, I won't deny that at times I can be that ballistics expert. Seeing it from another nations point of view, I think I've learned a lesson today.

"My" rules are the rules that everybody keeps claiming they're following. The rules state that you can RP with whoever you like, and ignore whatever you like, but some players think that by using that right that somehow I'm the bad one.

That didn't make a whole lot of sense....

What I meant is that if you role play a war with these "realism experts", you'll find yourself being outgunned really quickly, even with no bitching involved.

If you don't like 'em, stay away from 'em.

"My" rules are the rules that everybody keeps claiming they're following. The rules state that you can RP with whoever you like, and ignore whatever you like, but some players think that by using that right that somehow I'm the bad one.
True, as said, it is different people's roleplaying styles. Unfortunately, NS is getting big, and there's 200< active RPers RP everyday I would say. Indeed, there are a lot of different playing styles.

This is just the con side of a very popular game: a lot of people have different styles. That's why you see bitchfests being born everyday (assuming that there's virtually no bitchfest before).

Occasionally i think I'll wander out of my hermit-cave and conquer a n00b or three, tease a few space nations, or get Angelus' to build me one of those sexy automata's and, uh...

*funky 70's porno beat*

But, I may need someone else to join in that one... *peers at all the wenches* Awwww yeah...

Pantera wanders off to watch Family Guy.

What I get annoyed at is these fantasy nations that are two days old, claiming they are Vampires or something and that our M16's are shooting confetti at them.

The worst part is that people actually RP it.

Which pisses me off.

Because THAT'S A GODMOD.

So, Auto, for the most part I agree with you.

Some people expect Modern nations to RP with these uber space tech nations. How in the hell can you fight a uber capital spaceship with more lasers than half your infantry? There is no real point in RPing a war that you have no chance of winning.

Point made, but it is just one of the playing styles, common among space nations: to have modern-tech nations to be forced to RP with them.

Regarding this problem, the best thing to do is just... don't trigger them.

Here's what I miss about the old days: people weren't so overly fucking critical about everything. Nowadays, you can't do shit without people hounding you about how it's not realistic, how it dosen't conform to their standards. I swear to God, everybody on NS: now has top secret US government access, is a quantum physics genious, a military expert, a high ranking NASA official, and so on.

If I had kept Grifftonia up I would have been older. Not much, I don't think. I think I stared in early december.
I actually remember Pantera! Someone familiar!

Seriously, someone give this man (Automagfreak) a prize. Funny how some people complain about how everything's not critically accurate, and then will turn around and attack someone else with their space fleet of 100 million billion fighters. Oh, but it's alright, because they've been here since June.

This place was a lot better before Jennifer Government came out. You know, before there was a damn stock market fabricated by the people with way too much time on their hands.

I was here for WWV, and as I remeber it was a lot of flaming, partial wars, and outrageous godmodding....I guess we all remember things differently....

Hmmm, I have an uncle who was an air force pilot and majored in aeronautical engineering. My grandfather flew F4s durring WWII for the USMC. My other grandfather flew P-38s for the Army Air Force. I currently have a cousin in the navy who flies F/A-18s. I litteraly grew up around combat aviation, and spend my summers with my grandparents in Pensacola, watchign the Blue Angels, and going to the navy base to watch flight officer training. Naturally, I'm intrested in aircraft in a military sense. So when I use technologies on my aircraft which may seem complex to your insignificant paintball playing brain, am I isolating others by trying to act like an uber genius? When modern tech nations put bs on their aircraft that wouldn't work on modern tech, and I criticize them for it, am I isolating them? Probably not, but if I do, then I dont want to RP with them.

I read alot too. Mostly Clancy, but quite a bit of Coonts and Grisham as well. In fact, when I'm not in class or playing football or rughby with friends, you'll be hard pressed to not find me reading. So, when I emply real world tactics, and laugh when people try somethign that even those who dont study military tactics would find inane beyind all belief, am I isolating other RPers by acting like an uber tactician?

You may know I recently left space. I did so for two reasons. One is that it got boring, and two is that I realised taht I had no idea in hell how half the stuff worked. You like to write gothically, I like to write technically. I had no idea how alot of the technologies I was using worked, therefore I dropped it because I couldn't wrte the way I wanted to about it. Am I going off bitching at others who use space technology, or bitching to the forums because they have space armadas? No.

AMF, if you dont like it, then you dont have to play.

Lets look at it this way. I hate people who do long ass RP posts. They think they can impress everyone just becasue they can write a whole bunch of IC bull shit. Nowadays if your RP doesnt start off with a post slightly longer than War and Peace in its entirity, your considered a bad RPer. :rolls: .

Oh wait, AMF the all mighty RPer whom we should honor with our lives and first born children does that, we shouldnt criticize it.

I know it wasn't directed at me. But, like the good future lawyer I am, I'm still gonna argue the point. Just cuz people dont play the way you like to doesn't mean you can just go off and bitch at them, well, technically you can, but it doesn't make you right.

Wrong, it's not that they are not playing the way I want, it's that they are attacking me for how I'm playing. I could care less how somebody wants to paly, I don't go around pushing my values off on others, but for some reason, alot of people out there enjoy doing it to me.

My point is, either respect the diversity of style or shut the hell up, plain and simple. So what if I play in a slightly post modern society? According to some, because it's still a "modern" society, I can't have an advanced SDI system, a military comprised of slightly engineered soldiers and so on. People have to learn that not everybody thinks the same, and THAT's my quarrel.

I have a couple of suggestions here:

1- This is Trousers' rant about missing the old days. As everyone knows, this is a privilege accorded to old fogies of all types- regardless of chronological age. As such, let us try to stay on topic at least most of the time.

2- Rather than taking every single post that may or may not apply to you as a personal insult, let us assume that everything said here- unless directed at a specific person/player/nation by name- is merely a comment about the state of play in general. This will help with topic (1) above, and also keep the amount of actual flames down to a dull roar.

EDIT Bah! Never, never, never try to be witty after being awake for 30 hours!

I just can't wait until NS2 comes out... I think the few dollars a month will be worth it... I was a latecomer to RPing here and don't remember the good old days... ah what i've missed out on... can anyone give me a link to the Amerigo Slave Wars? I'd sure like to read about them, if they are even half as good as they are portrayed to be.

I think part of the problem is the diffrent RP tech levels and all the n00ks and advanced military equipment. Now, people don't dare say something about their belifs, because there are so many n00b countries that'd just kill them for that with their n00ks and space stations and crap. Even if they do say something about their ideas and DON'T get destroyed, thet'd be regarded as a spammer resulting in those 5 pages of flame.

I think it'd be fun to RP at just a WWI level. THAT would require the n00bs to actually THINK about strategy and not just "who's got the bigger guns."

*sigh*
