The Rooivalk is a latest generation attack helicopter from Denel Aviation of South Africa.

WEAPONS

The Rooivalk carries a comprehensive range of weaponry selected for the mission requirement, ranging from anti-armour and anti-helicopter missions to ground suppression and ferry missions. The aircraft can engage multiple targets at short and long range, utilising the nose-mounted cannon and a range of underwing-mounted munitions.

The 20mm F2 dual-feed gas-operated cannon fires high-speed (1,100m/s) ammunition at a firing rate of 740 rounds per minute. Two ammunition bins hold up to 700 rounds of ready-to-fire ammunition. The slew rate of the cannon is 90° per second. The cannon is chin mounted on the helicopter.

The Rooivalk is armed with the Mokopa long-range anti-armour missile developed by the Kentron Division of Denel. Mokopa has a semi-active laser seeker head and is equipped with a tandem warhead. Range is over 8.5km. Rooivalk can also fire Hellfire or HOT 3 missiles.

Rooivalk can carry four air-to-air missiles such as the Kentron V3C Darter or MBDA (formerly Matra BAe Dynamics) Mistral. The V3C Darter has an infrared seeker and a helmet mounted sight for target designation. The Mistral, which has been selected by the South African Air Force, has an infrared seeker and range of to 6km.

Rooivalk is equipped to fire 70mm Folding Fin Aerial Rockets (FFAR) from the company Forges de Zeebrugge of Belgium with a range of warheads, selectable according to the type of targets being engaged.

Each ROOIVALK ATTACK HELICOPTER from SPARTEN costs about 10 billion dollars each. For each order you have to post a reply on saying what you want and then you have to mail the order plus the money directly to my mailbox. After that i will recomfirm and mail your order to your mailbox.

$10 billion? Sheesh, that's waaay too much for a HELICOPTER.

I'll order if you give a discount on bulk orders. I want 102, but there's no way I'm paying $1.02 trillion. More like $10 billion total.
06-11-2003, 12:01
Hey these babies are strong. Make it 20 billion for 100
06-11-2003, 12:03
ok make it 500 million for a heli no less. Isochronous gets a discount cause hes first.

Go for a Tiger... just as effective, far more reasonably priced...

Varessa: which version of the Tiger though? just about everyone who (in Rl) signs up for it adds another different version (HAC, HAP, HAD and ARH) and none of them have the same load as the Rooivalk.

SPARTEN: $500mil is way way over priced, in Rl terms to price is likely to be in the $10-20million range. All in all the Rooivalk is a good helo but still in my mind lagging behind the AH-64D but of course i happen to use my own K-47 Goth (kind of illegitmate offspring of a KA-50 and western gunship).

Typically i think this beats the apache, and i know my price does seem  overpriced but there is always room for bargening

Depends what you're after. The Anti-tank and recon. versions are the most common, and are better at their specific tasks than the Rooivalk is. The Rooivalk also has a shorter range, and lesser manoeuverability than the (so brand new its still not in service) Australian version.

The Rooivalk does, however, offer a more versatile platform in its standard layout.

It actually lost out in a number of procurement comptitions to both the Ah-64D (or WAH-64D) and the late model AH-1s.

Varessa: the tiger does suffer from the fact that not all of the versions can even use Trigat.

persoanlly the best choice of tiger would be the new spanish HAD (Helicoptere d'Appui-Destruction) support and supression helo which offers all the cool stuff from the french HAC (AT version) and the generic HAP (combat support version). The aussie version also looks nice with it's hellfire capacity

kamov and mil pwnz all the other helies :!:

500 million for 100 low-tech helos? *Bursts out in laughter* Woo, that is funny!

I disagree. The Soviets (and, subsequently, the Russians) make superb airframes, but fall very short in terms of avionics and equipment.

And Crookfur, yes, the Hellfires are very good bits of kit, to say the least...
