In the real world, Diamonds are only expensive because of the De Beers cartel. They have billions of diamonds in storage. I in fact mass produce artificial diamonds in Attica for uses in Experimental Chomham-like armor using a diamond interlace.

We have precious diamonds mined from our Neptune Operation (I'm amazed that only me and another nation own Neptune), but we find them too useful to part with them. sorry.

Well you kind of just take big sucker machine sand suck in the gas you want from the desired layer, oh wait thats not how you would get diamonds....
