Training of the Protectorate Army

05-11-2003, 03:48
The echoing of helicopter blades slowly broke the quiet of the Pacific evening. Four Bell Huey helicopters painted night black soared just feet over the ocean, sea spray kicking up into the air the water rippling violently outward by the gust of the blades. A white stylized two-headed bird (Albania’s “eagle”) graced the tailfin of the helicopter. A gold chevron with a winged black and white six sat under the windows on the sliding doors of the Huey. The barrels of MG-34s stared out the side of the Hueys manned by men in jungle cammo’ with German World War Two style helmets.
The Hueys hovered over the beach and the men jumped out immediately moving into the cover of the jungle. The Hueys rose and flew off backtracking. The eight men snuck through the jungle, their eyes alert, faces painted. The moved through the brush for hours until taking cover in stillness and silence yards before the clearing and bamboo houses and manned towers. They took note of the positions and timing of the guards waiting till the sun had set long ago. They slipped on their night vision and all but two began to crawl forward. The two men aimed their crosshairs on the men in the watchtowers and pulled the triggers.
The other six moved slowly staying low and keeping the sights of their AR-94s to their eyes, swiveling barrels. Gunfire rang out as the men took out their targets. The snipers covered them as others appeared from the houses taking their targets out quickly. It was over within minutes.
“That was pathetic,” came a voice through the megaphone.
The “dead” soldiers stood up and walked towards the center of the clearing as the older man in fatigues stopped to glare at them all. There were six in all with varying degrees of ranks and age. The snipers came from the bush and snapped to attention as did everyone else as the older man rose arm and they shouted “Hail Howes”.
“I congratulate you on your infiltration Captain. As for the defenders, I had expected more and now I see our army still needs more training. The exercise will be repeated two days from now and you will switch roles. Let’s get back to the mainland.”
The assembled left in their Huey helicopter gun ships and boats.
