Catch-22 by Joseph Heller

At the heart of Joseph Heller's bestselling novel, first published in 1961, is a satirical indictment of military madness and stupidity, and the desire of the ordinary man to survive it. It is the tale of the dangerously sane Captain Yossarian, who spends his time in Italy plotting to survive.

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

A terrifying encounter with an escaped convict in a graveyard on the wild Kent marshes; a summons to meet the bitter, decaying Miss Havisham and her beautiful, cold-hearted ward Estella; the sudden generosity of a mysterious benefactor - these form a series of events that change the orphaned Pip's life forever, and he eagerly abandons his humble origins to begin a new life as a gentleman. Dickens's haunting late novel depicts Pip's education and development through adversity as he discovers the true nature of his 'great expectations'.

The UGL is able to fire 40mm High Explosive (HE), smoke and illuminating rounds out to a range of 350 m to destroy, obscure or indicate enemy positions.

Merlin HC3

The Merlin HC3 is the first of the next generation of medium support helicopters for the RAF.

The aircraft can be armed with two general purpose machine guns mounted in port and starboard cabin windows, and can be equipped with a wide variety of role equipment, including a rescue hoist and a roller floor to assist loading cargo via the rear ramp.

The Merlin will be the first British military helicopter equipped with an air-to-air refuelling probe, which will greatly increase the aircraft's range and reduce deployment times. An active vibration damping system reduces the level of noise and vibration inside the cabin to a similar level to turboprop aircraft, reducing crew and passenger fatigue and increasing airframe life.

Beth Gellert
05-11-2003, 03:31
Beth Gellens are generally pleased to see the motherland reducing its reliance on the private sector, and many wonder if Tony's heart finally packed in..

We also wonder if the industries represented in the "storefront" have been nationalised, as they do not seem to be offered by individual contractors so much as by the nation itself.

While there is a strong lobby in The people's socialist Commonwealth (of BG) to purchase British armaments and such, we regret that logistics make it impractical (the armed forces are presently reliant on Soviet/Russian munitions, and adopting western arms could create a supply nightmare)

In an effort to settle the matter, the Final Senate has agreed to form a national cultural historical society based on the British armed forces.

As such we should like to obtain sufficient arms and equipment for 120 men and women as such a group might be organised were they part of your nation's active armed forces.
These will be used in displays, re-enactments and the like.

Sufficient funds are being prepared for transfer as I write.

-CC J.Barrie.

PS. We wonder; have you ever considered that the name "The Kingdom of the United Kingdom..." sounds a tad..redundant? Would the subjects of that kingdom not be happy with "The Constitutional Monarchy of the UK of Great Britain?

Beth Gellert: How does 120 L85A3 Assault Rifle, 120 Jacket/Pants Combos, and 120 Pairs of Boots sound?
Iansisle: Ironic, no? I picked a few books I had read out of a "Most popular in the UK" list... plus the Odyssey and the Illiad, which were not on the list.
Beth Gellert
05-11-2003, 04:35
Thank you- I belive that The Commonwealth will go along with that, adding ten (10) L96 and ten (10) GPMG.

What with the Landrovers already in service here, vast northern tea fields, and large western..southern..eastern, and nothern breweries, at last first generation immigrants should feel more at ease.

(You know, your store-front is lacking some authenticity without those things- you need bitter, and you need tea! In the good old days the British government bought up the entire global tea crop every year, and stored enough tea in England for... fifteen trillion, I think, cups at any one time. Mmm. See if you can't restore Bently while you're at it! "Bring back the twenties... only with a communist government!" cries Beth Gellert!)

With that CC Barrie had the infamous comrade Igo escorted from the room. "If you don't mind I'm trying to buy some boots here!"

(Alright, I'll leave you alone now)

The Defence Ministry, on behalf of His Majesty King Llewellyn's Victoria Salvadorian Army and Royal Marines, wishes to secure forty five thousand (45,000) L86A2 light support weapons (at £24,120,000), eight thousand five hundred (8,500) L1A1 heavy machine gun (at £7,582,000- are they really that cheap? I might get one ;) ), and twenty thousand (20,000) GPMG (at £11,900,000).

On behalf of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, the order tendered is for thirty five (35) MR2 Nimrod (at £700,000,000), and one hundred and ten (110) Merlin HC3 (at £660,000,000).

The national sector is also prepared to spend £7.14 million per annum on importing equal measures of each available tea for dispersal into the private sector.

The Constitutional Monarchy of Victoria and Salvador hopes that the land of its distant origin remains active in world affairs to-day, and is keen to forge closer ties there-with. His Majesty's government hopes to move towards some manner of official alliance in the near future.
