Designed as the flagship for Defacto Russia's military space fleet, the first Manticore-class Heavy Cruiser was a shock to the world when it was revealed not because of its capabilities, impressive though they are, but because of its live crew. In all released statements before her launch, the DRS Manticore was billed as a drone warship, a large robot to join the existing robot army of Defacto Russia. Long believed to be a puppet state of the Resi Corporation, Defacto Russia has been showing its independance through the creation of three new combat robots, and the revelation of its human military.
The Manticore is a powerful warship, equipped with Thunderbolt Neutral Particle Beam Weapons as its primary anti-capital ship armament, and Tactical High Energy Lasers for engaging lighter craft. As well, a considerable missile armament is present, including Scorpion Anti-Starfighter Missiles and the fearsome Javalin Multi-Role Heavy Missile with its powerful deuterium/tritium fusion warhead. Incorporating a variable yield D/T fusion warhead, the Javelin missile can be set for any yield between seventy kilotons and one and a half megatons, classifying it as both a tactical and a strategic fusion weapon. As D/T fusion involves no fissionable metals such as plutonium or uranium, unlike conventional fusion warheads, the Javelin is a "clean" weapon with very little fallout when used against planetary targets, and not much of a radiation blast.
Powered by a cold fusion core, the Manticore relies on ion propulsion for its locomotion most of the time. In combat situations, however, it can call upon a pair of Inertial Confinement Fusion drives for a boost in speed, allowing it exceptional performance that belies its size. As well, banks of maneuvering thrusters make the Manticore Heavy Cruiser an exceptionally agile ship.
Amongst the Manticore's many roles is the support of ground operations. For this task, its Thunderbolt NPBWs and Javelin MRHMs are more than sufficient. As well, a quartet of drop pod launch tubes are included in the design, allowing the Manticore to rapidly deploy JAMES and JULIE forces to the surface of a target planet from orbit without risking its precious landing craft.

Unmanned Tactical Reconnaisance and Attack - Steep Trans-Atmospheric Reentry (ULTRA-STAR)
Third in Defacto Russia's family of synthetic warriors, the ULTRA-STAR is a high-speed, well-armed unmanned attack craft designed for transatmospheric operations and extremely steep reentry vectors. Known in the Defacto Russian Armed Forces for diving in hard and fast on their targets and engaging the local defenders while their biologically-piloted counterparts came in on a (barely) more gentle reentry vector, the ULTRA-STAR has picked up the service nickname of "Peregrine" for its steep dives and exceptional maneuverability.
Armed primarily with a Sledgehammer Neutral Particle Beam Weapon, the ULTRA-STAR has exceptional reach and firepower. Where the charged particle beam weapons on the JAMES and JULIE units work just fine in atmospheres, they experience significant beam-degradation and spreading in vacuum where the magnetic repulsion and the lack of air pressure causes the bolt to diffuse. The magnetic repulsion is not a problem for neutrally charged bolts, however. Even neutrally charged, the ULTRA-STAR's weapon retains firepower superior to even the powerful cannon mounted on the JAMES units. A blast from the NPBW is more than capable of punching rather large holes in a World War II-era battleship.
As well, six ordinance pylons allow the ULTRA-STAR to carry a wide range of weaponry externally. These can range from air-to-air missiles, space-to-space weapons, heavy conventional and nuclear stand-off weapons, and other potent ordinance. This renders the ULTRA-STAR an even more dangerous opponant than it would already be.
The ULTRA-STAR has a great advantage over manned fighters in one main area: Maneuverability. The ULTRA-STAR can perform maneuvers and withstand acceleration stresses that would incapacitate or even kill a biological pilot. This gives them the edge in air-to-air combat against manned fighters. A further edge is granted by the point defense weapon. The Starlance system uses a COIL, or Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser. A COIL converts energy derived from chemical reactions into laser light. The Starlance, in this case, uses that laser beam to destroy inbound missiles and engage pursuing fighters.

Designed to be cheaper to manufacture than the JULIE, but just as capable in its intended field, the JAMES unit is designed primarily for infantry combat and urban operations. The JAMES unit is more heavily armoured than its sister robot, albiet slower and less well armed. Nonetheless, the single Hammerfall Charged Particle Beam Weapon packs more than enough punch for its intended application.
Heavier, bulkier, and far less sleek than the Thunderstroke CPBWs carried on the JULIE, the Hammerfall CPBW is designed for sheer brutal firepower. As versitile as the aforementioned weapon, low powered shots from a CPBW are actually more survivable than shots from a projectile rifle as the heat from the particle stream actually cauterizes wounds and prevents bleeding. High powered shots, however, tend to leave too little of a humanoid target intact to worry about bleeding. The enemy soldier is simply obliterated.
A similar effect is achieved when firing on armoured vehicles such as APCs and tanks, thus negating the need for the JAMES to carry and fire ATGM. Its primary weapon is more than capable of blowing a hole lengthwise through a main battle tank. Thanks to the JAMES unit's advanced targeting system, it is also able to swat helicopters and low-flying aircraft from the sky with its CPBW. A rapid fire thirty-millimeter grenade launcher is mounted atop the CPBW for area support, and the handling of smoke and flare grenades.
As with the JULIE unit, the JAMES is equipped with a thermoptic camouflage unit to hide it while standing still or moving slowly. JAMES units have been known to lie in wait using their thermoptic camouflage until their enemy comes into range and firing from ambush. It is a favoured tactic to employ in areas the enemy is known to frequent. So long as it doesn't make any sudden movements, the JAMES unit can remain hidden indefinately.
A pair of new sensors have been added to the JAMES unit to aid it in its assigned missions. First among these is an ultrasonic mine detection system. Effective up to a depth of four feet, the ultrasonic sensor is its primary anti-mine defense. The secondary system is often its first warning, however. The JAMES robot includes a Trace Chemical Agent Sensor designed to analyze the composition of the atmosphere in the JAMES robot's vicinity and detect threats. Prime amongst these are aerosol chemical agents and landmines.
The TCAS can detect landmines by literally sniffing out traces of explosive. Although not sensitive enough to detect the exact location of a mine, the TCAS is often the JAMES unit's first warning that it has strayed into a minefield, allowing it to deploy its ultrasonic sensor in time to save it from a disabling mine explosion. Also, further adding to the JAMES unit's survivability, it includes the same nanoscopic repair bots as the JULIE unit. As the JAMES is a more simple piece of equipment, it is easier for the nano bots to repair, but even so the repairs are not perfect. As with JULIE, though, the repairs can mean the difference between a functioning JAMES and a pile of scrap metal.

Developed to replace the SORO units designed by the Resi Corporation, the JULIE units have been a closely guarded secret until now. Equipped principally with directed energy weapons, the JULIE unit mounts a pair of charged particle beam weapons. The powerful Thunderstroke CPBWs function by accelerating a stream of electrons nearly to the speed of light. By varying the power of the bolts, the same weapon used to cause a mere crippling wound to a human being, leaving it injured, but alive, can be used to punch a hole lengthwise through a mid-twentieth century tank.
As a backup to the Thunderstroke CPBWs, and to be used when the forelimbs on which the weapons are mounted are being used for locomotion, the JULIE mounts a pair of Sunbeam Dual-Purpose Ultraviolet Laser Weapons where the shoulder blades would be on a human. The Sunbeam consists of a standard UV laser whose emitter has been ringed by an electrode. Firing in their primary mode, the weapons cause damage by ionizing twin columns of air linking the electrodes to the target using the UV lasers, then transmitting an electrical shock along the columns. This shock can be used to stun an organic target, and disable a vehicle's electrical systems, or at higher energy settings, kill an organic target, or cause significant thermal and electrical damage to a targeted vehicle.
In the secondary mode, the Sunbeam uses the lasers to cause thermal damage to the target, but this requires significant beam-loiter time, and is rarely used. As well, the Sunbeam can be used to designate targets for laser guided munitions, as well as to determine the range to a given target.
A thirty millimeter grenade launcher system is provided for area support operations, along with forty-two 30mm grenades: Thirty-two High Explosive Dual Purpose grenades and ten smoke grenades. Primarily, these are used to mark targets, as well as to engage groups of infantry.
The JULIE can propel itself on land in both bipedal and quadrupedal modes, climb sheer surfaces with and without the aid of a pair of power harpoons, and propel itself through the water using a pair of small, retractable Ducted Superconducting Electromagnetic Propulsion system. It can hurl itself through the air, or sneak unnoticed along the ground.
While stationary or moving slowly, the JULIE can take advantage of an Active Thermoptic Camouflage system to render itself invisible. The ATC system is not perfect, however. While stationary, or moving at a crawl, it will render the equipped unit invisible. However, should the unit begin drastic maneuvers, or move with excessive speed, it will become visible. Not directly, but rather as a violent blurring of the background.
Finally, a series of nanoscopic repair bots range through the robot's infrastructure through the use of a series of microscopic channels. While the repairs they make are not quite perfect, they often make the difference between continued operation and the loss of the unit. This, combined with the JULIE's superb resistance to small arms fire, grant the unit exceptional combat endurance.
SMALL ARMS
Crvena Armoury R47
Designed around the same 4.7 x 33mm caseless round as Heckler & Koch's G11 assault rifle, Crvena Armoury's R47 pistol expands on the concept put forth by Fabrique National's Five-seveN pistol. Even though the DM11 4.7 x 33mm round is longer than the standard pistol round, or even the 5.7 x 28mm round used by the aforementioned pistol, the grip fits well into the hand, and the recoil impulse is minimal, even on three-round bursts.
Incorporating a threaded barrel for a silencer, the R47 is extremely quiet when so equipped. Without the need to eject spent cartridges, the R47 makes very little bolt noise and, when firing subsonic ammunition and silenced, is extremely difficult to hear in action. Rather than an ejection port, the R47 includes a unique mechanism for pushing a chambered round back into the magazine.
The charging lever is pressed upwards to chamber a round and downwards to return it to the magazine. In the event that a full magazine is carried with one round in the chamber, simply eject the magazine and then depress the charging lever to drop the extra round out the butt of the weapon through the magazine well. When firing the weapon, the charging lever does not move at all.
Performance of this weapon is similar to that of the G11, though it is understandably less accurate over long ranges. Fully automatic fire is not provided for, though the R47 can fire three-round bursts at the G11's 2,000 rounds-per-minute rate, meaning the actual felt-recoil only affects the weapon after the last bullet in a three-round burst has exited the barrel, resulting in exceptional accuracy. As a result, and an interesting side note, a three round burst from this weapon looks and sounds like one loud single shot.

SAFETY
A safety lever is located at the rear of the frame on either side. All the way up (S) is safe, down one notch (1) is single shots, and down two notches (3) is three-round bursts. Automatic fire is not available.
UNLOADING
Depress charging lever to return any round in the chamber to the magazine. Magazine catch at the heel of the butt. Remove magazine, depress charging lever again. Inspect chamber through magazine well. Release unloading lever, aim in safe direction, pull trigger.

Designed to be cheaper to manufacture than the JULIE, but just as capable in its intended field, the JAMES unit is designed primarily for infantry combat and urban operations. The JAMES unit is more heavily armoured than its sister robot, albiet slower and less well armed. Nonetheless, the single Hammerfall Charged Particle Beam Weapon packs more than enough punch for its intended application.
Heavier, bulkier, and far less sleek than the Thunderstroke CPBWs carried on the JULIE, the Hammerfall CPBW is designed for sheer brutal firepower. As versitile as the aforementioned weapon, low powered shots from a CPBW are actually more survivable than shots from a projectile rifle as the heat from the particle stream actually cauterizes wounds and prevents bleeding. High powered shots, however, tend to leave too little of a humanoid target intact to worry about bleeding. The enemy soldier is simply obliterated.
A similar effect is achieved when firing on armoured vehicles such as APCs and tanks, thus negating the need for the JAMES to carry and fire ATGM. Its primary weapon is more than capable of blowing a hole lengthwise through a main battle tank. Thanks to the JAMES unit's advanced targeting system, it is also able to swat helicopters and low-flying aircraft from the sky with its CPBW. A rapid fire thirty-millimeter grenade launcher is mounted atop the CPBW for area support, and the handling of smoke and flare grenades.
As with the JULIE unit, the JAMES is equipped with a thermoptic camouflage unit to hide it while standing still or moving slowly. JAMES units have been known to lie in wait using their thermoptic camouflage until their enemy comes into range and firing from ambush. It is a favoured tactic to employ in areas the enemy is known to frequent. So long as it doesn't make any sudden movements, the JAMES unit can remain hidden indefinately.
A pair of new sensors have been added to the JAMES unit to aid it in its assigned missions. First among these is an ultrasonic mine detection system. Effective up to a depth of four feet, the ultrasonic sensor is its primary anti-mine defense. The secondary system is often its first warning, however. The JAMES robot includes a Trace Chemical Agent Sensor designed to analyze the composition of the atmosphere in the JAMES robot's vicinity and detect threats. Prime amongst these are aerosol chemical agents and landmines.
The TCAS can detect landmines by literally sniffing out traces of explosive. Although not sensitive enough to detect the exact location of a mine, the TCAS is often the JAMES unit's first warning that it has strayed into a minefield, allowing it to deploy its ultrasonic sensor in time to save it from a disabling mine explosion. Also, further adding to the JAMES unit's survivability, it includes the same nanoscopic repair bots as the JULIE unit. As the JAMES is a more simple piece of equipment, it is easier for the nano bots to repair, but even so the repairs are not perfect. As with JULIE, though, the repairs can mean the difference between a functioning JAMES and a pile of scrap metal.

Developed to replace the SORO units designed by the Resi Corporation, the JULIE units have been a closely guarded secret until now. Equipped principally with directed energy weapons, the JULIE unit mounts a pair of charged particle beam weapons. The powerful Thunderstroke CPBWs function by accelerating a stream of electrons nearly to the speed of light. By varying the power of the bolts, the same weapon used to cause a mere crippling wound to a human being, leaving it injured, but alive, can be used to punch a hole lengthwise through a mid-twentieth century tank.
As a backup to the Thunderstroke CPBWs, and to be used when the forelimbs on which the weapons are mounted are being used for locomotion, the JULIE mounts a pair of Sunbeam Dual-Purpose Ultraviolet Laser Weapons where the shoulder blades would be on a human. The Sunbeam consists of a standard UV laser whose emitter has been ringed by an electrode. Firing in their primary mode, the weapons cause damage by ionizing twin columns of air linking the electrodes to the target using the UV lasers, then transmitting an electrical shock along the columns. This shock can be used to stun an organic target, and disable a vehicle's electrical systems, or at higher energy settings, kill an organic target, or cause significant thermal and electrical damage to a targeted vehicle.
In the secondary mode, the Sunbeam uses the lasers to cause thermal damage to the target, but this requires significant beam-loiter time, and is rarely used. As well, the Sunbeam can be used to designate targets for laser guided munitions, as well as to determine the range to a given target.
A thirty millimeter grenade launcher system is provided for area support operations, along with forty-two 30mm grenades: Thirty-two High Explosive Dual Purpose grenades and ten smoke grenades. Primarily, these are used to mark targets, as well as to engage groups of infantry.
The JULIE can propel itself on land in both bipedal and quadrupedal modes, climb sheer surfaces with and without the aid of a pair of power harpoons, and propel itself through the water using a pair of small, retractable Ducted Superconducting Electromagnetic Propulsion system. It can hurl itself through the air, or sneak unnoticed along the ground.
While stationary or moving slowly, the JULIE can take advantage of an Active Thermoptic Camouflage system to render itself invisible. The ATC system is not perfect, however. While stationary, or moving at a crawl, it will render the equipped unit invisible. However, should the unit begin drastic maneuvers, or move with excessive speed, it will become visible. Not directly, but rather as a violent blurring of the background.
Finally, a series of nanoscopic repair bots range through the robot's infrastructure through the use of a series of microscopic channels. While the repairs they make are not quite perfect, they often make the difference between continued operation and the loss of the unit. This, combined with the JULIE's superb resistance to small arms fire, grant the unit exceptional combat endurance.

Crvena Armoury R47
Designed around the same 4.7 x 33mm caseless round as Heckler & Koch's G11 assault rifle, Crvena Armoury's R47 pistol expands on the concept put forth by Fabrique National's Five-seveN pistol. Even though the DM11 4.7 x 33mm round is longer than the standard pistol round, or even the 5.7 x 28mm round used by the aforementioned pistol, the grip fits well into the hand, and the recoil impulse is minimal, even on three-round bursts.
Incorporating a threaded barrel for a silencer, the R47 is extremely quiet when so equipped. Without the need to eject spent cartridges, the R47 makes very little bolt noise and, when firing subsonic ammunition and silenced, is extremely difficult to hear in action. Rather than an ejection port, the R47 includes a unique mechanism for pushing a chambered round back into the magazine.
The charging lever is pressed upwards to chamber a round and downwards to return it to the magazine. In the event that a full magazine is carried with one round in the chamber, simply eject the magazine and then depress the charging lever to drop the extra round out the butt of the weapon through the magazine well. When firing the weapon, the charging lever does not move at all.
Performance of this weapon is similar to that of the G11, though it is understandably less accurate over long ranges. Fully automatic fire is not provided for, though the R47 can fire three-round bursts at the G11's 2,000 rounds-per-minute rate, meaning the actual felt-recoil only affects the weapon after the last bullet in a three-round burst has exited the barrel, resulting in exceptional accuracy. As a result, and an interesting side note, a three round burst from this weapon looks and sounds like one loud single shot.

SAFETY
A safety lever is located at the rear of the frame on either side. All the way up (S) is safe, down one notch (1) is single shots, and down two notches (3) is three-round bursts. Automatic fire is not available.
UNLOADING
Depress charging lever to return any round in the chamber to the magazine. Magazine catch at the heel of the butt. Remove magazine, depress charging lever again. Inspect chamber through magazine well. Release unloading lever, aim in safe direction, pull trigger.
