The Sword and Sheild

*The ANS Raptor slowly cut through the early dawn water, for the past five days it had been sailing through the Nanuvit Sea seperating the Allied States and Canadian Princes. Today was the final day as it was scheduled to arrive in the Canadian port of Toronto late in the evening. The crew had been at sea for several months now, only re-supplied by sea.*
*The Raptor had been put to sea from the Reserve Fleet at Norfolk to reinforce the Allied base at Sevilla, but when it fell to Tortuga the ship was sent to Port Royal, just before it arrived the war ended and the Raptor was called back to Formosa, but before reaching that it was again told to change course to head to the Nanuvit Sea and participate in War Games. They had ended two days ago, and the tired crew was ordered to Toronto, still not home, but it was land. They were tired and weary from the long trip, nothing was stirring on the upper decks, and below most of the crew was asleep.
*Suddenly the forward half of the mighty ship threw itself up in the air, seemed to stay there for a moment, then a massive explosion blew apart the mid-section of the ship and it came crashing back down violently. Alarm klaxons filled the air as little dots ran about the decks of the ship, the crew, now awake and very much aware. A second explosion tore into the portside of the ship, throwing it onto it's side, followed by a third explosion ripping into the starboard side of the ship.*
*Water gushed in through the massive gaps, the ship's bow going down fast. A fourth explosion went off some distance away from the ship, whatever was doing this had either missed or went off too early. Of course none of this matter to the crew, seeing the ship mortally wounded they had been given the order to abandone ship. But for most of the crew it was too late, the ship was just going down too fast, those who escaped into the sea were dragged down with the ship.*
*Lieutenant Zimmer was one of these men, as the stern of the warship finally slid under the ocean, a mere few minutes after the initial explosion, he lost the fight and was dragged under. As the world darkened around him, and his lungs gasped for air, he closed his eyes and prepared for his final journey. Under him in the Raptor a pocket of trapped air finally made it's escape from the ship, blasting upwards. Zimmer felt something slam into him, then himself launched upwards. When he finally opened his eyes he was gently gliding on the calm surface of the Nanuvit Sea. Around him were scattered peices of the ship, and through his blurred vision he thought he saw several other crew around him. He grabbed onto the nearest thing he could and just floated in the water, all he could do now was wait....*
*The Arleigh Burke class Destroyer Pollard and the Perry class Frigate Carcharadon were the first Allied ships to reach the area after the Raptor was declared missing, all they found was some wide-scattered debris from the Raptor....*
