OOC: Can someone give me a idiots guide to roleplaying sum-?

OOC: I'm a recent addition to nationstates and i've read many Faq's and stickys but i'm still not confident i know what i understand everything. For instance can someone invade my country out of the blue? Meaning i have some 20 million people and then log in one day to find out that ive got none or my whole government is destroyed? Or do roleplayed wars have no effect on your actual stats as a government, and any damages done are just foot notes for players and their roleplaying?
OOC: Im speaking in OOC just to be careful but how serious are these boards about roleplaying? Will i be looked down on if i make an occasional random or off-topic post?
OOC: Next, Is all trade player recorded and related? Meaning that if you _say_ that you have built an army(reasonable army, in relation to your population, tech, and economy strength) does it have to be registered anywhere? Or do you just state what you have and if anyone questions it make supporting reasons and it is up to mutual cooperation to decide what happens?
OOC: What don't i know basically, i know that is infact asking alot but i have a tendancy to not know what everyone else considers self-evident.
OOC: Thank you for your patience with my incompetance ^_^.

Someone can just invade you out of the blue, but usually other countries will help you out if the war has no justification. And no one can RP out an entire war, beginning to end, without giving you a chance to respond. As far as stats go, they won't change b/c of the war. The damage is simply RPed, and kept track of.

You don't have to 'register' your army. Many people just keep track of what they have in notepad; some post a thread showing everyone their military; to keep track of your GDP, try this http://www.esyn.org/SOTA/NationStates.html

Well, the best way to avert having your entire nation turned into a radioactive lake is to either:

A) Stay off the boards.
B) Build up one hell of a military, as in buy stuff from storefronts.
C) Become famous for making incredible military weapons.

That's the best I can think of at the moment. As for now, I can only give you a link to our storefront, maybe give you a discount so you can get on your feet.

OOC:
Alright, Im not much of a serious RPer, but:
• Technically someone can invade you for fun. Wether you ignore or not is up to you, but IMO kuwait did a real good job ignoring iraq! Attacking for OOC reasons should be ignored
• What happends to you in roleplay doesnt affect your nation OOCly. You can get nuked and nothing will happend
• You can make OOC posts to clear up IC stuff, but random or off-topic posts are generally not welcomed.
• You don't have to record or register it. You can make a .doc file about your army to keep track of it for convenience. There are also several GDP calculators to help you determine your military budget. Not registering it doesn't mean conjuring up equipment whenever you need it, you should either RP buying it (once the sale is confirmed you say "Money wired". Be reasonable with how much you buy) or develop it yourself (you can make 1 or 2 minor products with your economy. No world-class jet fighters or tanks at 1st, even if Israel has merkavas and Kfirs it went through design processes involving spying [for the Kfir], etc.)

Any more questions, feel free to send me a TG.

Hello GC,

No there is NO risk at all that your nation will be invaded. There is no war in this game, except the following:
1) Region crashing: This means that someone moves in and takes over a REGION's UN-delegate, which is perfectly acceptable according to game rules, as long as the new UN-delegate doesn't use his or her newfound power to boot everyone else out of the region (this is so-called "griefing" and may in extreme cases mean deletion of the guilty player's nation). However, none of the region's nations are directly affected by this. They may of course be affected by the new delegate's decisions in the UN, but they don't change owner or anything like that.
2) Role-playing: In one part of the forum, you may "pretend" war. This has, however, no effect in the game, except what the participants may or may not agree to. For example, if A and B role-play a war, and B makes a realistic case for having won, then the stakes of this episode could, for example, be that A lets B decide the next two government decisions. Hoever, this has absolutely NO relevance for players who are not participating of their own free will.

The only way to lose control of your nation that I know of is this: Someone may guess your password, and then "steal" your nation. This is against the rules, and if you can prove this to the moderators, the guilty one may face severe punishment - rumor has it that the moderator who goes by the name Tactical Grace, sometimes use magic to transform nation-thieves into ducks! However, it can be difficult to find out that "theft" has taken place, and in this case no action is taken (unless Tactical Grace is in "I-will-transform-some-idiot-into-a-duck" mode, but that is a different story).

Summa Summeram: Don't worry about your nation being "conquered".

(OOC: I should point out that I've done none of these, and am doing just fine.)
