Secretary-General Brown announced today that the Federation Aerospace Forces, in conjunction with the Ground Forces Engineering Corps and the Naval Observatory, will begin development of a nationwde high-altitude defense system, or NHADS.
NHADS will consist of several ground installations arranged to protect the continental airspace of the Federation against high-altitude bombers, low-orbiting satellites, and even small asteroids. Each NHADS installation will be equipped with hardened interceptor-missile launchers, two ASAT lasers, and close-in weapons for self-defense against low-level strikes.
Sec-Gen Brown had this to say about the new defense network, "NHADS will provide the best possible protection against high-speed, high-altitude penetration of our skies by unwelcome advances."
Transdynamics Consortium will be the lead systems integrator for the NHADS project.
