OOC: All the designs are modern tech, all have modern day equivalents. So if it's godmoding it's the RL nations that are producting them that are godmoding.

"In today's world we can reduce army numbers, we can reduce air power, we can reduce the number of tanks we have and still be a major world power. It is on our navy which today's and tomorrow's defense will rest. And the most cost effective investment in the history of our nation, has, and will be, the submarine."
-Admiral Marcos in his address to the Grand Council

The Dominion of Talkos has announced the goal of designing two new diesel submarine designs to render modern nuclear submarines obsolete.

Having had much experience and popularity with it's GATO class submarines, with over 200 sold it had to be taken off the market for awhile., the Dominion has decided to design and produce uprated and upgraded versions.

The main goals of this project to produce a new Tactical Attack and Defense Submarine are as follows:
1. To have the ship to ship capability equivalent of a SeaWolf or Virginia class nuclear submarine.
2. To cost 1/3 that of a Seawolf class nuclear submarine to produce.
3. To cost 1/4 of a modern nuclear submarine to maintain.
4. To be able to fulfill the standard multi-role missions of submarines.
-a. Covert Ops
-b. Supply and Transport
-c. Surface Bombardment through missiles or guns
-d. AA and AS capability
-e. Minelaying Capability
-f. Interdiction and blockade
-g. Patrol
-h. Provide Power Projection to the nation
5. Run quieter than modern nuclear submarines.
6. Use Air Independant Propulsion systems in order to give it a multiple week underwater operation limit.

Comments and questions are welcome.

Good luck :)

((OOC:When you DO end up finishing this, let the Republic know. The whole premise of sea-battles and an able navy is of extreme importance to Dimelda.))

Thank you Harmona.

And Dimelda we expect to have designs for two of the next generation submarines in about 3-4 days RL, another 2 days RL for sea trials and beginning production. Expect a week RL before they come on sale to the public, but if you wish we could TG you when that happens.

If you would wish to buy one of the Gato class diesel submarines that we are phasing out of our navy we have a limited time clearance price of $50 million dollars. So cheap that you could just ram your enemies ships. (A LA class costs about 1billion)

Gato Class Submarines:
Displacement: 1526 tons surfaced, 2424 tons submerged
Length: 311'
Beam: 27'3"
Draft: 16'10"
Speed: 20 knots surfaced, 9 knots submerged
Armament: 3"gun/.50machine gun, 6 bow and 4 stern torpedo tubes, 24 21" torpedoes (loaded tubes plus reloads: 10 forward, 4 aft)
Complement: 80
Operating Depth: 300 feet
Cruising Range: 11,000 miles surfaced at 10 knots.
Submerged Endurance: 48 hours at 2 knots.
Fuel Capacity: 94,400 gallons.
Patrol Endurance: 75 days.
Diesel engines, surfaced/electric motors, submerged
Propulsion: Diesel-electric reduction gear with 4 main generator engines,
1 aux. generator.
4 main motors with 5,400 shaft horse power.
2 126-cell main storage batteries.

The Gato's are cold war leftovers and our new subs that are coming out are expected to be about 5x as effective and more efficient in both price and manpower. These ships are excellent for an expanding navy with patrol and blockade needs, but are simply outmatched in every catagory by modern subs such as the Kilo or Seawolf class. If you wait, the new subs should be equal or superior to their modern nuclear counterparts.

Bump. We'll do it once more if nobody anwsers then we'll let it die.

((OOOC:Yes, it would be nice to get TG'd when the subs are ready. I fyou do some test runs, let me know how those go as well.))

I'll purchase 6 of your GATO submarines...
$300 million USD will be wired upon confirmation, if this offer is still running.

Yes, it's still running. Order confirmed. We will either send the subs over with prize crews or you can send over crews to take them back to your home ports. Thank you for your business.

MAJOR Problem with diesel submarines. Maximum operating depth is 75 feet. Maximum speed: 3 knots to 9 knots. These problems are due to the snorkel that is used on diesel submarines. The snorkel is needed for air to come into the engines and smoke to come out. This makes them very easy to spot by plane or satellite. Your best option if you were to choose diesil submarines, is you have batteries as a back-up powersource and so you can dive further than 75 feet.

Well, would have thought that the inclusion of batteries would have been common sense given that they've been included in all submarines since WWI. Which enables modern subs to dive to around 900ft, although one of the new technologies that are going to be included in the project is the AIP or Air Independent Propulsion System which allows the Hydrogen Diesel Hybrid engines to operate without constant fresh intakes of oxygen.

That is a good idea.
