From Allies to Enemies ( Talaax vs IP - Resource War )

26-10-2003, 16:44
OOC: This has been planned out with Talaax, so please don't come in here shouting godmod and such. People can join either side, but please ask first.

IC: 12:30am, IP Airbase 35 miles from Talaax Border

The paratroopers began to board the planes. All of the men were fully briefed about their mission and were very confident that they would succeed. Each paratrooper was fully laden with over 100lbs of gear, everything from food, ammunition, personal weapon to parachute and kevlar vest. As each plane filled up, it took off from the airfield and circled over head, waiting for the others.

A few miles away at various surrounding airfields, 250 fighters and 100 bombers ready'd themselves for take off. Squadron after squadron began to lift off and circle over friendly territory. Everything was on schedule, success seemed guaranteed.

Background Information
The Thorstadt Mountains in Souteastern Talaax are some of the most mineral rich in the world. The minerals there guarantee that Talaax will remain a rich country for decades. Gold, Diamonds, Iron, Silver and Oil are all in abundant quantities.

Unfortunetly the area has been somewhat of a disputed zone for many years. Ingsoc Provinces, Talaax's eastern neighbor claims the rights to the Thorstadt Mountains. Recently talks between the two nations have broken down and relations soured even more when Ingsoc Provinces allowed Catholic Rebels to position supply bases in it's territory.

Still distracted by the recent Catholic uprising, Talaax is unprepared for an invasion. It was decided by IP High Command to launch a suprise attack into the Thorstadt Mountains. Talaax suspects nothing and will likely be taken by suprise.

3:30am, Over the Thorstadt Mountains

At precisely 3:30am five and a half thousand paratroopers began to fall out of the skies onto Talaaxian oil fields, major road junctions, towns and mines. Their objective was to capture and hold these areas until relieved by the regular ground forces three to four hours later.

As the paratroopers landed, fighters and bombers screamed over head, moving towards frontline Talaaxian airfields. As they arrived they found 90% of the Southeastern Air District's aircraft on the ground. Within minutes air superiority had been achieved.

The paratroopers on the ground met little resistance as they moved to and captured their objectives. A few areas, such as the oil fields were better guarded than others and their garrisons put up a better fight. By 6:00am all but four objectives had been taken. At two oil fields, a town and a diamond mine, TIS troops fought on desperately.

At the same time RAFT troops manning the border posts heard the engines of over a thousand MBTs and over eight hundred IFVs and APCs starting up. The men of the mechanized invasion force rolled forward over the border. In most cases the border posts were bypassed and left for the support infantry. A modern-day blitzkreig had fallen upon Talaax.

Talaax is a socialist breadbasket. The idealize people like Lenin and Ge'VeraH as if they were God and Christ themselves! They are a bunch of godless commies!

OOC: Talaax is actually a friend of mine, we go to the same school. His government and nation are devout Catholics and Muslims. Just some good ol' propaganda courtesy of a dictatorship.

RAFT Headquarters, Talaaxia 7:00am

Talaax's top generals, RAFT and TIS were all seated around a large wooden table on the fourth floor of the RAFT HQ Building. Except one, the Commander of the Southeastern Military District was still there, attempting to gain control from the chaos of the attack. None of the generals had expected the attack and it would be two days at least before forces from the other military districts could start arriving in the southeast.

Marshall Ae'tius stood up while an aide dimmed the lights and the wall "opened up" revealing a projection screen. Immediately the emblem of the RAFT appeared on the screen.

Ae'tius: Gentlemen, as you are all now aware, Ingsoc Provinces has attacked us in the Thorstadt Mountains. Although we are unaware of there intentions, it is safe to assume that they are after the oil and minerals located there. The most recent reports from Lt-General Eurn suggest that there have been several airborne landings, followed by a large scale crossing of the border. The air divisions for MDSE ( Military District - SouthEast ) were caught on the ground and mostly destroyed. IP has air superiority, but not air supremacy. I want all available aircraft over the Thorstadt Mountains ASAP.
All adjacent fronts are to turn over control of their units to Lt-General Eurn. Other fronts will supply units piecemeal for now.
Navy, order all ships home and out of port. There has been no naval activity as of yet, but that could change. Get the damn aircraft carriers in the area TODAY! Get back to your offices and make it happen! NOW!

With that the generals swiftly left to fullfill their given assignments. Within 8 hours, 10 TIS Armoured Divisions, 9 RAFT Armoured Divisions, 5 TIS Motor Rifle Regiments, 8 RAFT Motor Rifle Divisions and 16 RAFT Infantry Divisions were en route to MDSE. 4 aircraft carriers, with full escort were also en route.
Within 4 hours, 12 fighter/bomber squadrons were either en route or over MDSE. The total combined forces en route to MDSE are:
4,250 Type-98 HBTs
3,000 T-80U MBTs
2,250 T-72 MBTs
1,250 T-64 MBTs
1,250 Uparmoured T-55 MBTs
1,250 BMP-2s
1,250 BMP-1s
1,250 BRDMs
1,250 BTR-70s
1.5 Million Troops total = 2/8 total RAFT/TIS Numbers
450 Su-37s
200 MiG-29s
150 Su-27s
100 MiG-31s
50 MiG-21s
* Naval units not included in list

President Anderson was watching some TV in part of his private area of the New White House. It was nearly midnight and he thought it was probably time to hit the sack.
He rose and turned the TV off, ejecting the video he was watching and putting it into its case and then back into the rack next to the TV.
Then slowly he walked out into the corridor, turning the lights out behind him as he went. His children were asleep in their rooms already so he didnt bother to disturb them. He nodded and smiled to the Head Secret Service agent who was standing in the hall way along with 4 other agents of the Night Shift.

Agent Brannigan returned the President's smile and said Goodnight as the President walked into his own room.

He had barely seen the door close when a message came into his left ear via his earpiece.
"Brannigan, this is control we have Pegasus (the codename for the Chief of Staff) on his way up to see Mullins (the Presidents codename after his favourite PC game soldier of fortune 2)."

"Roger that" he replied into his microphone in his cuff. He looked along the corridor to the other agents. They were standing still like statues but with their heads constantly moving looking for any sign of danger however unlikely it was in here. But they still looked, with their right hands only inchs from their weapons inside their jackets.

'Here goes' he thought to himself as he knocked on the President's door. A short "Come in" came a second later and he opened the door and entered. The President was standing at the enterence to his private bathroom with his toothbrush in his mouth and a puzzled expression on his face as to why he had been disturbed.

"Sir, we have General Siler coming up to talk with you. Its very urgent apparently" he explained.

The President nodded and disappeared into his bathroom, emerging 10 seconds later without the toothbrush but with a towel wiping the water off of his face.

At that same moment General Siler walked in with a Red brief case in his hand. "Sir, we have a developing situation that the Secretary of Defence thinks needs your attention.........................."

Any assistance you can provide us will be greatly appreciated. Naval and air support are our biggest concerns right now. If you could send over aircraft and ships, it would help us very much. Ingsoc Provinces has yet to fully deploy it's navy so your ships should be safe for the time being.
Ground troops would also help, but they aren't as desperately needed.

OOC: Ingsoc Provinces is a dictatorship. This war is a war over resources, resources that Ingsoc Provinces desperately needs.

IC: One week into war

The advance units of the IP Expeditionary Task Force ( which represents 1/2 of the IP Military ) Were now 100 miles inside Talaax. With each day of the campaign, however resistance stiffened. Losses among the paratroopers were the highest. The men of the Airborne Divisions had not been relieved and were continuously at the front.

Along the major east-west road, a long salient protruded into Talaaxian lines, all the way to the outskirts of the largest urban center in the Thorstadt Mountains, Socialism Tunnels. Inside the salient, which was twenty miles long and twenty-five miles wide, were two armoured divisions, one mechanized division and seven infantry divisions.

Overhead, the IP Airforce had lost it's air superiority. Talaaxian aircraft regularly engaged IP aircraft and bombed IP frontline and supply troops. All was not lost in the air, however, as the IP Air Force was able to do the same to Talaaxian troops.

Everywhere, a stalemate had set in with neither side gaining the upper hand. As the RAFT and TIS Divisions continued to move to the battlefront and the Talaaxian winter loomed on the horizon, the IP high command began to look for a quick victory....

US Forces still await intructions on where they are to deploy. With the arrival of the V Army Corps, the area is becoming even more crowded.
Military planners have bgun spreading forces out so that they are not as open to attack as they could be otherwise.

The 183rd Mountain Infantry Division has been readied in the USIH for immeadiate deployment to Talaax (Thanks for pointing it out Vollmeria) and submarines have begun leaving home ports to head there as well.

At the New White House

"Mr President Sir, we may have a small problem with regards to the Talaax war" remarked the Secretary of State as he walked into the President's office with General Siler.

"What? I was under the impression that all of our forces had landed and were ready to go."

"Yes Sir they are but we have unconfirmed reports that Freedom Country may be entering the war soon."

"Well that shouldnt be a problem should it? I mean they have always been on our side in the past havn't they?"

"Well Yessir, but we have a feeling that they have more to gain by siding with Ingsog in this conflict."

"I can't believe that!!! They wouldn't condon this act would they?"

"We believe they will" said the Head of the IHIA as he walked into the Rectangle Office."We intercepted this communique from them to Ingsog that outlines a number of troops that they are willing to send."

"S**t" remarked the Secretary of State "They have a lot to loose and not much to gain by entering the conflict on IP's side!"

"Agreed" said General Siler, "We could smash any military they send in and if necessary we could withdraw from our mutual defence pact. That should make them think twice."

"But wouldnt that push them into it? Make them think that they need to find more allies!" asked the Secretary of State.

"I dont know" replied the President "I'll give them a call, see if they drop any hints. If the worst comes to the worst maybe it would be good for a few weapons that could be traced to us being dropped to the rebels?"

"Sir that would almost be a decleration of War, I dont think that is needed at this time" shot the General quickly.

"Ok, just putting it on the table" he pressed a button on his phone and his Secretaries voice came on the line. "Get me the Leader of Freedom Country on the phone" he said.

OOC:FC if we ant sposed to know it as a fact i will change the post to make it seem more like a romour if u want?

also isnt an F-32 a plane so how would it be able to launch off a destroyer? not even sure a VTOL could do it either, it would be very tricky wouldnt it? i know ur a plane know it all (ment in a good way)

OOC: Talaax is made up of mostly Catholics and Muslims, but we are a Socialist Democracy. Talaax is a socialist state. Also, the Thorstadt Mountains are suitable for armoured combat, thanks to the many valleys, but infantry are better suited for fighting there. The fighting in my next post is taking place in the flatest part of the Thorstadt Mountain range.
IC: Socialism Tunnels Salient, Eastern Thorstadt Mountains
Seemingly oblivious to their precarious position, IP forces continue to push forward in the Socialism Tunnels Salient. Presented with such an advantageous opportunity as this, the Talaaxian High Command has chosen this sector to be the focus point of their counterattack "Operation Axe Blade".
The plan of attack was for a two pronged (sp?) attack into the ST Salient at it's base. Four TIS Armoured Regiments would spearhead the northern pincer, followed by 2 RAFT Motor Rifle Divisions and 5 RAFT Infantry Divisions. The southern pincer would be spearheaded by 1 RAFT Armoured Division, followed by 1 RAFT Motor Rifle Divison, 4 RAFT Infantry Divisions and 1 TIS Airborne Division. The two pincers would attack one hour apart and hopefully meet up on the east/west road in the center of the salient.
If the attack succeeds, 1/5 of the IP forces in Talaax would be destroyed. Depending on the success of Operation Axe Blade, a second operation is being planned. The codename for this second operation is "Operation Back Stab".
Northern Pincer 6am
At precisely 6 am all along a four mile front 400 artillery pieces begin to fire on the IP lines. For 15 minutes the shells and rockets rain down on the trenches and fox holes of the IP infantry regiment manning this sector of the salient. Suddenly the barrage ends, but the sound of falling artillery is quickly replaced by the screaming of fighter bombers. 12 MiG-31s scream overhead, leaving a deadly trail of cluster munitions and napalm cannisters on the IP lines. As they turn back towards friendly territory, 4 of them are blotched from the air by SAM fire.
But with no pause between the final expolsions of the explosives dropped by the MiGs, the sound of tank engines starting up can be heard in the distance. The soldiers look at each other in terror as panicked commanders scream into radios for help.
One hour later the process is repeated at the site of the southern pincer.
Talaax Casualties Thus Far:
Dead: 7,642
Wounded: 14,203
MIA/Captured: 1,298
Tanks Lost: 133
Aircraft Lost: 87
OOC2: RAFT = Revolutionary Armed Forces of Talaax - self-explanitory

F-117 and B-2 Bombers have been scrambled to start hitting these supply lines immeadiately (10mins RT before first strikes?)

Also 5 Darkstar drones have been moved into position near IH frontline forces. Darkstar's are UAV's that fly at about 72,000 feet using still image and real time cameras to feed information back to IH troops on the ground. They are so small, and move so slowly that radars if they pick them up (they have stealth tech) think they are birds, albeit very high flying birds.

ST Salient

The front line infantry regiments quickly collapse under pressure from far superior numbers. Immediately, Field Marshall McHale ordered all available armour to the area of the breakthrough. Unfortunetly the only armour available were the tanks already inside the salient, as the others were tied down in other sectors.
All day long the tanks tried desperately to stop the two pincers, but hampered by constant aerial attack and artillery bombardment they made slow progress. By the end of the day only one full strength armoured regiment stood between the pincers. The other reserve forces weren't due to arrive until halfway through the next day.
The situation was grim. If the Talaaxians succeeded in closing the pincers and encircling the men in the salient the fighting power of the IP Army would be seriously reduced. No tanks from other sectors were available to assist. Aircraft were very few in number, thanks to the recent arrival of IH and Attican fighters.
As night fell on the exhausted troops of the ST Salient, all of Ingsoc Provinces began to prepare for the worst. They had thrown their best punch at Talaax and everything they had, besides the bare minimum needed in IP itself, was in Talaax. This war meant life or death for an independant Ingsoc Provinces.

IC: General Allen, overall commander of the Task Force in Talaax has sent a message to the Talaax high command on when he and the Attican Empire Forces should attack the border.

OOC2: am i to the north sough east or west of the mountains? i was thinking about swinging some divisions round behind so that IP forces have to surrender or something like that??

OOC: Great minds think alike. That's exactly what I was going to have you do. I'll outline the plan in detail IC. Oh and you're north of the mountains. Attica, I'd like to change my request and have you south of the mountains. The Thorstadt Mountain range is about 500 miles in length and 110 miles wide at it's thickest point.

Subject: Operation Backstab
Greetings to all of you. On behalf of Talaax, I'd like to thank you for your support. We hope this incident will serve only to bring our nations closer.
But, enough with the nicities. By now you should mostly be in position north and south the the Thorstadt Mountains. Our intelligence indicates that the only troops manning the border positions infront of you are B- and C-class Divisions. The most recent intelligence suggests that IP's remaining A-class divisions are either engaged in Talaax or positioned in or around major cities.
Pre-war intelligence estimated the IP Military Strength at 25 Armoured Divisions, 15 of which were of class A, 7 were Class B and 3 were Class C. 15 Mechanized/Motor Rifle Divisions, 5 of which are Class A, 6 are class B and 4 are class B. The infantry strength was estimated at over 50 divisions. The breakdowns are unknown and mostly irrelevant.
These B- and C-class divisions are the ones opposing you at the border. With troops as good as I believe yours are, they shouldn't be much of a problem. The plan you are involved in is called Operation Backstab. Your forces will be acting in conjunction with and in support of the Talaaxian Airborne Corps.
Once the IP forces in the ST Salient have been defeated and the IP troops in Talaax are on the retreat, we will drop the entire TAC just over the border into IP. At the same time, your forces are to attack across the border in a large sweeping action, moving north (Attica) and south (IH). The two forces will then meet up with the TAC directly behind the IP armies in Talaax. This will effectively cut off their line of supply and create a very large pocket. We will then destroy the IP forces in the pocket, guarding against breakout attempts.
From there we will likely advance on into IP, although this is not set in stone. Prepare your battle plans, D-Day for Operation Backstab is in two weeks ( Game Time ).

ST Pocket
The beleaguered troops trapped in the ST Pocket, were now running low on ammunition and fuel. The Talaaxian troops constantly played music and propaganda over loudspeakers into the IP lines. Nerves were beginning to fray.
From all directions, Talaaxian artillery fire rained down on a daily basis and Talaaxian troops continually pressed in on the pocket. Day by day the pocket was getting smaller. The IP divisions outside the pocket could do nothing to help their comrades, for fear of another breakthrough. Now, it was only a matter of time before the IP troops in the pocket surrendered.

OOC: What about me?

IC: We have decided to half our troops being sent in, though we shall still sen din our full air assets.

The carrier is being pulled out, but the landing vessels and escorts are still on da way.

If worst comes to the worst, we will just do paradrops (with unmarked and undogtagged people) and give air superiority.

And yes, if a helo can do it, a VTOL can.

OOC: Ok talaax, umm roughly how long is 2 weeks game time?

IC: General Siler walked into the Joint Chiefs Conference room and sat down in his usual chair at the front.

"Good Morning Gentlemen and thank you for coming", he motioned to the Heads of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. "I trust that you have all read the plan for Operation Backstab, and now i want opinions on it."

"We can do it easy" said General Alexander, Head of the Army, "we may have a little challenge if FC decides to come in but apart from that it should be a walkover. We have nearly 12 Divisions against 1 Infantry and 2 Armoured which obsolete really, and the airforce are going to knock up their artillery before we go in aren't you Jim?" he smiled at General Jim Todd, head of the Air Force.

"Yup they will have a very nasty surprise, those F-15 Strike Eagle pack quite a punch you know!" General Siler turned to the Marines.

"As you know the Marines have no forces in theater but I think its a good plan. Bob has agreed that if necessary we can sail a couple of Divisions past Freedom Country if they get rowdy. Will the President go for that?" General Mikey Moore head of the Marines said.

"Not sure, depends on their level of involvement" answered General Siler "Whats your opinion Jack?"

"Navy thinks its A'ok" replied Admiral of the Fleet Jack Tomlinson " Quite glad that I dont have to risk any of my carriers anyway, but those Fly-boys will be annoyed that all they will be doing is supporting Attican Forces and not shooting down hundreds of planes!."

OOC2:Im assuming that the Ocean is South? Not sure really. and great minds do think alike a Talaax! :)

ST Pocket

The troops inside the pocket had been without supplies for a week and a half now. Ammunition was at 1/4 of what it should have been. Fuel, 1/6 and food 1/10. Many troops had already surrendered to the Talaaxians, drawing the pocket in tighter.
As night fell on the 10th day of the seige, the IP commanders decided it was time to try something desperate. The next morning, everyone in the pocket would attempt a breakout. It was a last ditch effort to save themselves and their country.
The next day the tanks and APCs lined up along the east-west road. At 6am, the artillery fired it's last shells towards the Talaaxian lines. Immediately after the tanks began to roll forward, followed by the infantry, some on foot and some in APCs.
15 minutes after leaving their lines the troops began to come under heavy fire from the Talaaxian lines. Tanks were destroyed on the road, blocking the way for others. Other tanks simply ran out of fuel. The breakout attempt was doomed. An hour after it began, it was over. 90% of the troops attempting to breakout were either killed, captured or wounded. The rest simply disappeared into the forests around them. The battle for the ST Pocket was over.
Total Casualties for IP:
Killed: 25,456
Wounded 18,789
Captured/MIA 10,521
Tanks Lost: 467
Aircraft Lost: 324
OOC EDIT: Those losses are for the entire war so far, not just this battle.

We will pull out all naval involvement.

Only the most elite will be paradropped, from old C-130's (unmarked) and unmarked M-16A3's.

We will provide air cover, using the force first entered into the conflict.

All defenses at home have been ramped up, and mountain passes are closed.

The Secretay of State walked into the Presidents dining room where he was enjoying a Roast Beef Dinner with his family and some of his close friends, all of course under the watchful eyes of no less than 10 Secret Service Agents.

"Mr President could i speak with you privately after your meal please Sir. It concerns the FC stance." The Secretary of State asked.

"Sure, actually just give me a brief version now if you can?" replied the President, taking a roast potato onto his fork.

"Ok Sir, well they have decided to pull out all naval and ground forces. General Siler is worried about their Air Force and their Special Ops troopers though."

"Ok well, we will deal with that problem when we have to. Have Chris get his people to draw up some plans for countering their Special Ops, and ask Cassie to put something on this into the speech for the Senate on Monday would you. Thanks" he smiled and went back to his beef.

"Ok Sir." he walked out into the corridor and turned left to the lift. The lift doors opened and he stepped in, followed by 2 Secret Service Agents as nobody was allowed to travel alone in the New White House during time of war.

As he stepped out of the elevator 2 floors down he nearly collided with the National Security Advisor James Phillips who was on his way to the canteen with his own escort agent.

"James, the Boss will probably want your opinion on the FC development after dinner so i'd head on up there when you've eaten" he said calmly as he adjusted his tie.

"Ok, dokey" replied Phillips to the Secretary, and then to his escort "Can you let them know I'm coming through that thing" he pointed to his earpiece "so we dont get our asses shot off". He was reffering to an incident that had happened that morning where an anti war protestor had tried to climb the White House fence and a Secret Service Agent had shot a round at his leg, which actually hit him in the ass.

"Dont worry Sir" smiled the Agent " that kinda stuff dont happen in here, just those Uniformed guys outside get a little bored you know"

"Yup, oh well off to dinner then" he walked off followed by his escort adn the Secretary returned to his office.

"Roger that Major. Get the troops moving."

OOC:The Attack plan was to have 1st and 22nd Armoured plough through enemy defences and then the 2nd Heavy Armoured, slightly further south would lead the march as it were with the 9th Infantry and 45th Mech on its flanks. Then when we get to the point the Armoured will spread themselves out and the Infantry Divisions will man the line to block enemy retreat. Sounds good Talaax?

5,000 feet Up
The pilots of the An-124s looked around nervously, trying to stay in formation without colliding with other planes. 120 aircraft were in the air, along with a large fighter escort of another 70 MiGs. Inside 75 of the An-124s were a company of paratroopers, each. Inside the other 45 An-124s were five M-551 Sheridan tanks.
As the planes drew closer to the drop zone, fighters screamed off to engage SAM and AA batteries and the red lights in each An-124 turned on. Shouts of "Stand up and hook up!" echoed through the aircraft. Chutes were checked and rechecked. Three minutes from the DZ the side doors came open, revealing a vast expanse of black beneath the aircraft.
The paratroopers looked around at each other nervously and officers checked watches. Right on time the green light came to life. Immediately the paratroopers began filing out of the aircraft and tanks hurtled out the back of the aircraft, followed by their crews.
Ten minutes later the aircraft were empty and everything was on the ground. The An-124s then turned around to return to base, passing the second wave on the way back. The paratroopers on the ground bean to assemble and move towards their objectives.
An hour later the second wave landed in the DZ and again assembled and moved out towards it's objectives. In total 40,000 men dropped into Ingsoc Provinces that night. By "Viking Hour" seven out of fifteen objectives had been captured. In the remaining eight objectives class-A troops held on desperately for reinforcements.

Colonel Brent Hanson was the officer in charge of the 1st Armoured Divisions reconnisance screen. He had 12 M3 Bradleys and 20 HMMWV's armed with TOW missiles and .50 Cal Machine Guns. His section had ploughed through the enemy defences the night before and were now heading for their next objective, a small mill, 4 miles infront of the main column. The night before had gone well, he had only had 2 casualties and both of those men had waited for the mobile hospitals to come up in the second wave. They had yet to encounter any of the armour that intelligence had said was on the border, but then again he thought, the air force were supposed to have taken came of everything they could see. Just as he thought that an A-10 Screemed overhead, waggling its wings. He saw the A-10 power off and dive behind the hill to his right, and seconds later came the dull boom boom boom as three missiles hit something on the other side .Then his radio chirped into life
"Eagle Scout this is Fortune 2 we have large concentration of Armour 10 klicks South of you moving towards the main column. Looks like old M60's with M113s and some trucks, Divisional strength OVER.!"

"Roger that Fortune 2 did you copy that Eagle Lead?"

"This is Eagle lead we copied that over" replied General McCarthy in his M1A2. "Eagle is turning towards them now, we will take up position on the ridge 2 klicks south of us and wait for them to come through the small valley there" he pointed to a map and relayed the co-ordinates to the rest of the radio net. "Get the Darkstar over there he said to the Air Force Major who was controlling it back in Talaax," I want to see what we are up against with my own eyes. Jagged 2" this was the airbourne AWACS aircraft that was controlling all planes in the air at that time "could you give our friends a little company before they get to us over?"

"This is Jagged 2, roger that Eagle Lead" he changed frequency "Crimson flight go to burner and come inbound on your target, Divisiona Stregth armour at Co-ordinates 098-987 Over."

"Roger that Jagged 2 Crimson flight Out" the 6 F-15 Stike Eagles banked to their right and hit the after burner to head right for the enemy formation.

"Jagged 2 this is Jagged 1 we have 5 Strike Eagles with PIGS onboard that could lend a hand over"

"Ok Jagged 1 bring em in so they hit just after our Eagles do Over."

"Roger that Jagged 2" this operator changed frequency and caught a glimpse of an F-16 out his window "Wallpaper flight come inbound on Co-ordinates 098-987 Over"

"Roger that out"
These F-15s headed in as well with their cluster ammunition to sprinkle onto the enemy.

USIH losses in attack so far

IC: The AWACs was the first to detect the incoming missiles, and immeadiately radio'd the F-15s that had just fired off their Air-to-Mud missiles, 2 AGM-65 Maverick missiles from each aircraft. They turned and then their threat recievers began to go crazy.

"This is Eagle Lead we have multiple missiles inbound, we are going to burner." came the nervous yet professional voice into the from the pilot. The pilot shot off his counter-measures and then hit the burner taking his fighter to nearly mach 2.5 with the 5 others from his flight following.

In the AWACS plane the controller watched on his radar screen as one incoming missile went off course and impacted with one of the Maverick missiles that the F-15s had shot. The other 5 kept coming.
The controller still watching his screen keyed up another secure frequency on his headset
"Halo flight this is Jagged 2, come inbound and splash those hostile planes OVER"

"Roger that Jagged, HALO flight is inbound." HALO flight was 12 F-22Raptors, that went to their top speed of mach 1.8 as soon as the call came through.

As soon as they were within minimum range for their AIM-54 Phoenix missiles, they opened the outer doors and fired off 1 each. The missiles promptly accelerated to just over 3,000mph and headed for the 3 enemy fighters.

"Jagged this is HALO flight, we have fired 12 Pheonix's at the hostiles, request permission to engage those large blobs over."

"Roger that target anything in the air infront of you over."

"Roger out" he keyed his communication set to speak to all of his flight. "Flight this is lead, fire ALL i repeat ALL but 1 A-A missile on my mark Over."

Eleven calls of "Roger" came through his headset.

"Fire"

Each F-22 then released their remaining one Pheonix, two AIM-120 AMRAAM's and 2 AIM-9 Sidewinders at targets in front of them.

The F-15s were slowing down and beginning to deploy more and more counter-measures against the 5 missiles. Eagle 2s threat recepter had stopped beeping. But he kept formation and deployed counter-measures like all the others.

The Missiles came in 1 minute later, hitting 3 of the F-15Es and glancing another. Two of the pilots ejected including Eagle Lead, and the damaged plane limped off home.

On the ground General McCarthy watched as 3 of the planes that had come to protect him fell out of the sky. he saw the paracutes deploy and sent HMMWV's to get the pilots. Meanwhile he focussed on the job at hand, the distruction of the Armoured Division 5 Klicks south of him.

His tanks and IFV's waited below the crest of the hill ready and waiting for the approaching enemy while the Divisional Artillery set up its Paladin self propelled guns, M109 Towed Howitzers and MLRS's a mile behind. They would fire as soon as the first enemy elements had been engaged at the hill.
The crews of the M1A2's, M3s and M6 Linebackers waited for their prey.

OOC:FC they were probably fighters and transports that the F-22s fired at but i didnt say about hits, ill leave that up to you.

*Battlezone*

"This is light dagger, missiles incoming, repeat missiles incoming."

"Jam 'em boys"

*Using custom built jammers, 5 of the Pheonixs dive domb to the ground*

"Wow, we got mutiple more missiles, hot inbound."

"Roger, Shining saber and grey sword, permission to engage in defence of aerial units. Dark Dagger, stay on the cargo's"

*Each of the flights have 5 fighters. There are 10 more fighters inbound.*

"All, fire with AA-3's"

*All 10 fire 2 AA-3's on heatseeking each (their radars are off)*

Meanwhile, 2 of the missiles hit the MA-10's. One pilot ejects, the other takes a direct hit to the cockpit. The other 3 speed by. The 3 missiles hom ein on the cargo and dagger flight. 2 of dagger are shot down, and the cargo takes a hit to the engine.

Of the 48 more missiles inbound, all hit the remains of Dagger, meaning all are down. One of Sabre and 2 of Sword are shot down, with 2 missiles each. There are only 2 cargos in the air - 1 gets shot out the sky, th eother pancakes on the runway in landing precedure. Light Dagger takes 1 more hit, eamining all are out.

The remaining 7 fighters, they each fire 2 more AA-3's, 2 AIM-9Z Sidewinder II's. They then break to engage the ground units (they target the HMMWV's) with 2 Maverick II's each.

IC: The F-22's had turned and started to head back to base when the missiles were sighted on the AWACs high power radar and on the F-22's threat receptors. It appeared that 17 missiles had honed in on one jet, and that pilot held on as long as he could, breaking from the flight and then ejected seconds before his plane was destroyed by 10 of the missiles. The remaining 7 locked onto bits of the plane and some to other planes in the area. Another 3 Raptors went down and 2 more were badly damaged. 2 Raptor Pilots were lost and another 2 were injured badly. These signalled IH's first ever F-22 losses, and the President would not be pleased to hear that.

At the New White House
President Anderson was very angry. Freedom Country jets had shot down IH planes, including 4 F-22s! He was trying to think of a rational reason for them to do such a thing, but couldnt. He still couldnt understand their invlovement in this conflict, helping somebody who had siezed the resources of a former Ally! he continued to ponder on a response to this situation.

*Air Force Base - Somewhere in IP*

The runway was in chaos. Trucks, cars, soldiers and helicopters were buzzing about everywhere. AA-3X SAM's were being set up (IH, thats the SAM version of the thing that hit your planes :) ), AAA bunkers were being hidden among sandbag bunkers.

In the hangars, plane after plane readied for take off. Several damaged MA-10's returned, and another AWAC's went up to replace the one that was low on fuel just then. Also, refueler, EW and ground attack helicopters were going up.

3 flights of 5 MA-10's (15 MA-10's for those of you who cant do math  ) were hobbling onto the runway, loaded to the gills with AA-3E's, Sidewinder II's and extra fuel tanks. Also, a wing of 3 F-37 Ground attack fighters were being loaded up with Cluster Bombs, Maverick II's, DU bullets and Sidewinder II's.

All of these were buzzing onto the airfield, ready for tke off.

OOC: That was a bit of a godmod there. How about we reverse that situation back to just after your planes attacked the tank division? Sorry for the inactivity, but I was swamped by homework.

Where's Attican gone off to?

IC: After the aircraft strafed the tank division, the divisional commander decided to split his forces. Two regiments would advance through the valley while two others would advance behind the northern ridge. (Assuming your forces are on the southern ridge) The forward echelons would be made up of TOW-armed M113s and and M60UPs (Upgraded M60, better sights, electronics and such). The second waves would include the same tanks and armoured vehicles and a few M1 Abrams tanks.
Ahead of the regiments heading into the valley a squad of motorcycle scouts were send ahead to determine enemy disposition.

IC: President Anderson today gave a speech condemming Freedom Country's attack on USIH planes in Ingsoc Provinces yesterday. He called for Freedom Country to remove all military hardware from IP territory and that any other act by FC military would result in a State of War existing between our two nations. Then in a shock move, the President said that the use of Thermonuclear weapons had not been ruled out in this conflict and that if FC were to persist in attacks against USIH forces all measures of combatting them would have to be considered. He also announced that conventional cruise missiles had been launched at the airfields which those FC planes had launched from to attack USIH forces and that more would be launched if attacks continued.
-----IHNN

Inside the New White House

"Ok General i've just announced that im willing to launch thermonuclear warheads at IP and FC, do you think that they will stand down now?"asked the President. His anti-nuclear weapons feelings would mean that he would never carry out such a threat unless his country had itself been hit by nuclear weapons

"Yes Sir we believe that it will make them seriously consider their stance in this. They are effectively providing air cover for all of IP forces in our area of operations, and as your orders our planes have only been ordered to stay clear of FC planes and attack only if fired upon. They have an advantage with their missiles, they can shoot at us before we can have planes get within the range of our missiles. Our Longer range missiles are still in development at Fort 15 sir and wont be ready for at least another year."

"Understood General. By exposing this weakness in our air force they are showing us that we definetely need improvements in this area which have previously been overlooked. Cant we buy some longer range missiles from allies or International Arms dealers."

"We are looking into that right now Mr President, we have a plane in development that could effectively counter these but it is not ready at this time." said Air Force General Jim Todd

"God dammit is anything ready? How about those subs off FC's coast?" he asked Admiral of the Fleet Jack Tomlinson

"3 Los Angeles 688 Class Attack SSN's and 1 Ohio SSBN are positoned off the coast in International Waters Sir. If we go to war they are ready to make strikes against a few FC military buildings to show them that we are not to be messed with."

"Ok, if we go to war with them that may be nessecary, but i dont want 500 dead sailors, make sure that they arent touched ok!"

"Yessir"

OOC:FC you currently have no idea they r ther ok :p :)

IC: *Presidential Speech Part 1*

"Freedom Country does not want a pointless war over resources. We do not want lives lost. We do not want to be blamed for this conflict. We are not interested in mass losses due to war between our great nations. We do not wish any harm to come of our argument.

We will NOT, however, stand around while we get threatened. We no longer wish to be part of this war. We will leave the region, though we will send in peackeepers when the conflict closes. We hope our ancestors are proud of us, and so should be our peers and citizens. We have backed in rather than spilt blood. Thankyou."

A bunch of people from tabloids and newspapers huddle round and ask questions, but back off when two uniformed guards enter the room. The president leaves through the door they came in, and is escorted to his Helicopter.

*On the walk*

"Sir, are you sure we want to leave."

"Yes, we are. Well, not totally. I have an idea. How about loaning IP some of our planes. Leaving them there, as in about 12 MA-10's and several F-32's. Make sure Freedomian pilots fly them however."

"Eh, sir, I am sure that might work. Shall we?"

"Yes. And keep the paradroppers dropping, and the Spec Ops blowing shit up."

"Yes sir."

The President is wisked into the waiting helicopter.

The motorcycle scouts of the two advancing regiments enter the valley, watching for enemy presence. The 127 men of the scout company spread out into squads, advancing along the valley floor. The men, mostly reservists in their 30s are trained enough to operate their equipment and fire their weapons, but don't possess the tactical experience of regular force troops.
As the scouts advance, the tanks of the two regiments sit and wait for a report before advancing. As they wait, some mobile artillery pieces are brought up to support the drive into the enemy offensive, along with several mobile SAMs and M113 23mm "Vulcans".
The other two regiments, advancing to the north of the valley drive on ahead of the other two, hoping to make it to the other side of the valley before their comrades enter it. Several mobile SAMs are brought up to support these two regiments as well.
The regiments are made up mostly of TOW-armed M113s and M60UPs ( upgraded ), with ten or twelve M1 Abrams tanks per regiment. These are class-B troops so they have older equipment and out of date training.
OOC: Ingsoc Provinces Armoured Divisions have 4 regiments instead of the usual 3. Each Regiment is made up of 3 battalions, which are made up of 5 companies. Each company contains 12 tanks, so each division has about 700 tanks.

USIH forces make sure that there positions are ready. The M1a2's and M6s linebackers now advance into the battle.
04-11-2003, 02:26
The scouts begin to come under fire and the company commander immediately radios back to the divisional commander to report that the enemy is in the valley. The scout company then takes up defensive positions and return fire with Eryxx AT rockets and LAWs.
The two regiments to the east of the valley begin to open fire on the enemy tanks advancing north from the south of the valley, hitting the enemy's flanks with cannon, AT and artillery fire. Despite being older tanks, the M60UPs still pack a big punch, enough to penetrate the side armour of an M1A2. The two dozen or so M1 Abrams tanks pack an even bigger punch, as to the TOW missiles on the M113s.
To the west of the valley, the other two regiments arrive in position and begin to attack the enemy's western flank with the same amount of fire. As the tanks fire on the enemy armour, three A10s swoop in low to the ground and drop several napalm cannisters on the advancing tanks. Immediately behind them four AH-64 "Apache" attack helicopters swoop over the northern ridge of the valley and begin to engage enemy tanks at will.
At the divisional headquarters, the commanders begin to radio for a reserve A-class mechanized division 15 kilometers away to begin advancing to the battlezone to reinforce the armoured division.

*Air over battle*

"This is Ghost lead, Ghost lead, asking for permission to engage ground targets."

"Roger Ghost Lead, permission to engage."

"Thankyou Checkmate, engaging."

A flight of 3 F/A-32's swoop down from the sky, and on their first pass fire 2 Mavericks each at the vehicles (they target tanks, primarily), blaze with their cannons before pulling up. On their pull up, they drop 2 FCCB-85 1,000lb cluster bombs each, on the vehicles.

"This is Ghost Lead, strafing run complete."

As they pull up, one thing gleams in the sky. The thing gleaming, is the Igsnoc Provinces Air Force badge. The plane, however is Freedomian and so is the pilot. But it is on 'loan' to IP.

IC: The Divisions 12 Patriot Missile Systems were set up and waiting something like this. There target radars were up, and all friendly aircraft were behind them still inbound. Each Patriot fired off all 4 missiles, and immeadiately started reloading whilst the Chapparals stepped in to deal with the Apaches. The Divisions own air brigade was about 5 minutes away after some mechanical problems at their temporary airfield.
The Patriots were intermixed with the artillery which had briefely paused for the missile launches but now continued. The MLRS's further up continued firing salvos at the enemy positions showed by the darkstar drones.

At the front the reconnasance screen had suffered heavy casualties, as had the 1st brigade, but now that artillery was falling on the enemy positions the enemy fire was less intense.

A satillite pass had detected that an enemy mechanized divison was only 15 klicks away from the pass, so aircraft had been called in to stall it until the 22nd Armoured and 45 Mech Infantry caught up with the 1st Armoured Division.

Talaaxian Airborne Corps
After a week of fighting and holding on, the elite paratroopers were finally getting a break from the intense fighting. The paratroopers had been grappling with various IP infantry divisions for days and were exhausted. But suddenly, the pressure abruptly let up. Although the commanders didn't know why, the pressure was letting up.
At the same time, the first reinforcements began to fly in to the three airstrips under Talaaxian control in IP. Tank losses had been the highest, but that was expected. The AA (Airborne Armoured) Divisions' losses would be the hardest to replenish, as there were only a limited number of M-551s.
All D+14 objectives had been taken and all that remained for the paratroopers was to wait to link up with the Attican and IH forces. The 'troopers expected a short wait now.

Attican Front, South IP/Talaax
At 6:30am Operation Backstab began on the Attican Front. All along the 35 miles of front the Attican forces occupied 250,000 men and 7,000 tanks began to cross the border, destination: Talaaxian Airborne Corps. Above them 150 AF-110s engaged IP aircraft and IP forces on the ground. One week into the attack, Attican forces were still mostly unopposed and driving hard towards their Talaaxian allies.
At a week and a half into the attack, IP resistance began to pick up. The Attican commander in charge of the Expeditionary Force, believes that a link up with the Talaaxian Airborne Corps will be achieved within one week, unless more significant Ip resistance is met.

The Armoured Division continues to press on both flanks of the enemy. The first echelon of the attacking regiments were completely decimated, but there were still many other tanks where those came from. All companies were told to press on, disregarding all casualties.
The Divisional Commander wanted to cut of the leading regiment from the others and destroy it, hopefully stalling the enemy advance long enough for reinforcements to arrive. He knew the objective was a very difficult one to complete with the forces he had, but he was very confident in his men's abilities.
25 miles away the Mechanized Division began to roll out of it's reserve position towards the scene of the battle. It was scheduled to arrive in 45 minutes to an hour. 30 miles away to the east, the 45th Armoured Division - an A-Class unit - also began to roll out of it's reserve position toward the battle area. It was scheduled to arrive in 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Equipped with M1A2 and Leopard 2 tanks, the 45th Armoured was a much formidable tank force than the division currently engaged.
From all over the northern front infantry divisions were being moved up to the battleline. 2 more armoured divisions were also en route but wouldn't arrive for another 6-8 hours. IP High Command were trying desperately to stop this penetration of their lines and were throwing units into the fray piecemeal. 6 Squadrons of F-15Es ( 1 Squadron = 12 Aircraft ) had been assigned to this sector of front along with 1 flight of F-117s and 4 flights of A-10s ( 1 Flight = 4 aircraft ). Several AH-64 and AH-1 attack helicopters were also assigned to this sector of front.
Artillery and mobile SAMs were being brought up to the sector. Three large 340mm railway cannons had also been brought forward and were performing counter-battery operations on known enemy artillery positions.

*Mountain Pass. Near 'November' Gold Mine*

The moon was bright. Very bright. The sky was a midnight blue, with multiple clouds. The moon lit the ground, showing the trees and lakes of the mountains of Talaax. It also lit the Gold Mine. Lights on its windows were on, and smoke belched out th chimney.

Huge figures floated through the sky. They were large, and black as death. They were, in fact, 10 C-130J's loaded to the brim with Spec Ops troops. The planes and troops were unmarked, as is the equipment. They float over the mountains, dark shawdows in the sky.

The fly over the mine, and begin to slow. Unseen, paratroops begin to drop from each, 100 from each aircraft. Also falling are several Humvees, fitted with TOW missiles. The figures are falling, falling, when their parachutes open. They can now be seen from the ground.

They land, 1 by 1, near the mine. The start to group. It has begun.

EDIT:

IC: The Darkstar Drones could not see the formations moving but KH-10 and KH-11 satillites could. Immeadiately phones began ringing, orders issued and planes were diverted. B-52s that were previously in holding patterns topped off their fuel tanks and headed towards the co-ordinates sent to them. They carried mixtures of Paveway 2000lb GBU-10 and GBU-12s and 4 of the B-52s carrier 18 JSOW AGM-154B's each. These would each divulge 24 submunitions each of which could easily take out any modern battle tank in the world. The Paveways were to slow the enemy down.

In response to Radar indications of massive enemy air movements all avaliable aircraft were scrambled, including 82 F-16 Falcons, 45 F-15 Eagles, 42 F-22 Raptors and 24 F-14 Tomcats from carriers. Landbased F-18 Strike Hornets were also scrambled armed for Air to Mud missions.

At the Battlefield (or valley) the 1st Regiment was taking a pounding. The 2nd and 3rd Regiments had gone in on the left and right respectively and were making significant headway against possibly faltering enemy resistance. They were bolstered by the news that the 22nd armoured had arrived behind and was preparing for battle with the 2nd Heavy Armoured and the 45 Mech not far behind. Above 4 F-16s dashed in firing HARM anti-radar missiles as they went trying to knock out SAMs as the Helo's came in.

The 25 AH-64D's followed the 12 OH-58 Kiowa Warriors into the attack. The Kiowas fired off all 4 of their TOW missiles and turned and fell back. One fell to a missile, the crew managig to drag themselves out when it hit the ground. The Apaches started their attack runs firing Hellfire missiles , 30mm Cannon Shells and 12 FFAR 2.75 Inch rockets each.

The 12 UH-60M Blackhawk DAP's with their FFAR's and Miniguns flanked around the back and began to fire at the enemies artillery.

The leading regiments of the armoured division were being mauled. 3 out of 5 tanks in these regiments were destroyed or damaged, but keeping with their orders they pressed on.
As the tanks pressed into the enemy lines, the 25th Mechanized Division began to arrive behind the engaged armoured division. The 25th had suffered casualties in IH air attacks on the way to the battle zone, but mobile SAMs with the division had returned the favour to the enemy aircraft ( 45 Mobile SAMs and 22 M113 Vulcans with the 25th ). Immediately, the M1A1s and M2 Bradleys of the 25th began to take up positions above the enemy on the northern ridge of the valley. From there they began to fire their 120mm cannons and TOW missiles into the enemy regiments below. The infantry with the division also took up positions around the armour, firing TOWs and Eryxx missiles into the enemy armour.
10 miles away, the 45th Armoured Division suddenly changed direction from northwest to due west. IP high command had sent down orders for the 45th to attempt to outflank the enemy forces engaged in the valley and attack them from the south east, while hopefully cutting off supply lines. 3 out of 6 of the F-15E Squadrons had been assigned to maintain air superiority over the 45th and an additional SAM battalion had been assigned to the division.
Above the battlefield, the other 3 F-15E squadrons began to engage enemy aircraft. Screaming in behind them, 4 F-117s drop several laser guided bombs into the enemy tanks below. From over the northern ridge, 16 A-10s swoop low over the ground, engaging enemy tanks with their 30mm cannons, then dropping a mixture of cluster munitions and napalm on the enemy rear areas where command posts are likely to be.
At the same time, army intelligence officers listening to enemy radio broadcasts triangulate several enemy artillery positions. Immediately MLRS's and 155mm howitzers begin to fire on the various locations. The three 340mm artillery cannons also begin to open fire on the enemy formations forming up behind the currently engaged armoured division.
The IP High Command began calling in aircraft from all over the front to begin moving to this sector and engage enemy ground and air forces. Sea bases aircraft, strategic bombers and reserve fighters begin to fuel up and get ready to move to the battlezone. One particular aircraft, a B-2 Bomber is loaded with only one bomb and takes off, circling 100 miles from the battle zone, waiting for orders to move in and drop it's special payload.
OOC: I want this to be a major engagement with several divisions from both sides involved. This battle is supposed to cripple the offensive force of the IP Armed Forces, but still do a fair amount of damage to the enemy. The B-2 is armed with a 50 megaton nuclear bomb, I don't think I'll drop it but I'm just letting you know it's there for fair warning and so you don't go and nuke me into the ground if I do drop it.
