Rescource shortfall in Garenthas

26-10-2003, 10:10
To whomever it may concern,

This year, for the third year in a row, Garenthas has produced less food than its people have required. Our stockpiles are nearly at an end. In the short term we need 79 tonnes of food to make up for this shortfall and in the long term we need more advanced argriculture equipment to ensure that this is not repeated.

If any nation can provide for one or both of these deposits the people of Garenthas would be very gratefull. This year our computing industry has boomed and a return for your investment would not be out of the question. Please contact us.

Yours sincerly,

Minister Carslaw

Federal Government Responds To Crisis
-------------------------------------------------------
Western Asia's government has asked for the mobilization of Magen David Adom (MDA) resources and personnel to deal with the current humanitarian crisis that has been reported in Garenthas.

In response the High Commissioner of the MDA, Dr. Jack Minchas, announced that dry and canned food stores under MDA authority had been released for immediate transport to and use in Garenthas under the direction of a few of MDA's Disaster Response Crews (DRCs).

The Commissioner said that the majority of the food goods would be transported via the SkyCat-brand Ultra Large Airlifters (ULAs) that are under MDA control. He also released the list of aircraft types and numbers that have been released to this cause (see box).

The following aircraft, which are all administered and maintained by MDA authorities and bodies by license and decree of the Federal government of the United States of Western Asia, have been released into service for this mission and have been reported able and capable of the duties outlined.

3 of the MDA's 4 CV/A-7 ULAs (SkyCat™ 1000 model)
2 of the MDA's 2 CV/A-6 ULAs (SkyCat™ 600 model)
2 of the MDA's 5 CV/A-5b ULAs (SkyCat™ 220 model)
2 of the MDA's 2 C-200A PelicanULTRAs
4 of the MDA's 6 Cargo-variant B747-400ERs
3 of the MDA's 3 Passenger-variant B747-400ERs (for crew transportation)

We have also been very kindly provided with provisional authority over a number of IDF military assets for this mission, including:

4 C-200A PelicanULTRAs
5 CV/A-7 ULAs (SkyCat™ 1000 model)
8 Cargo-variant B747-400ERs

Ground vehicles will be transported by both IDF and MDA aerial transportation assets and consist of both MDA and IDF ground and aerial transport units.

Western Asian officials confirmed that strategic stores of grain and canned goods were being transferred into MDA control for distribution in Garenthas. They've also stated that talks are under way in Congress to provide agricultural support funds and equipment to the government of Garenthas, either as long-term loans or simply as foreign aid gifts. It is believed that the final deal will include some loans with a majority of the funds and the entirety of the equipment donations being "without demand of remuneration."

Dr. Minchas also stated that "at least 4" of the MDA's 240-person DRCs will be deployed to administer and aid in the distribution of these supplies, with the medical contingents providing care for malnutrition-related illness and the construction crews deploying to assist in the development of public resources to avoid further nutritional issues. He later stated that more units may be deployed, up to 7 standard DRCs, to help the government of Garenthas establish irrigation and farming systems that should allow Garenthas to produce enough of its own food.

The MDA has sent out a request for other governments to help provide some food supplies for Garenthas' benefit.

Minchas finished his announcement with a message for the people of Garenthas: "We are doing our best to help your people and your government deal with this time of crisis and panic. Our people will do their best to serve and protect you."

OOC: With a lifting capacity of many thousands of tons (and tonnes), this is probably over-kill by a magnitude but I'm interested in seeing where you will go. BTW, Welcome to NS.

OOC: 79 tons of food is...well...not much at all and won't go far. To put this in perspective, one shipment from South Korea to the North back in 1997 was about 11 200 metric tons. Hundreds of thousands of tons of food would truly be a large-scale famine.

One Ro Ro carrier from Hyperion Shipping is currently pulled from its regular duties and now is being stocked with various agricultural equipment along with all 1600 TEU containers being packed with food. Escort will be provided by two Vrakian destroyers and should arrive at the nation of Garenthas within two weeks.

If a 175-pound man fell into one end, he would come out the other end as 38 pounds of oil, 7 pounds of gas, 7 pounds of minerals and 123 pounds of sterilized water!
Now 10% more efficient!

<OOC> I just joined the site a few days ago and am still getting my feet wet. Where do people get their statistics (I see a lot of people on the forum quoting various average populations or population:military ratio etc.) is there somewhere on site or are people just surfing the net? </OOC>

We thank you for your timely aid. You need not worry about distribution or medicinical problems, we have the infrastructure in place to distribute it. Our problem is that we only just have enough arable land to feed our population, unfortunately our farms have been underproducing for a significant period of time and the trucks that should be transporting food to our cities are instead sitting empty and abandoned in what few farms are scattered around the land.

These supplies will no doubt save countless lives, with better luck and more up to date argriculture equipment it is likely that we will not end up having to trade all of our goods for extra food supplies next year. Instead we will use what we can produce to repay this kindness. If there is ever anything you need that we can provide do not hesitate to ask. The people insist.
