-Torontonias Space Program News Report-
Today, Mike Richards, the head of the R&D department unveiled a proposal for a Terraformation plan to create more oportunity for the Mercury Colony, currently little more than a small research and mining station with a population of 20,000.
In a release earlier today, the director outlined the new Technology:
[i]This technology will consist of Three parts, the first part is using the heat-absorbing technology we developed years ago, in satilites that will absorb the suns power, it will then convert it into a coolant beam that will help cool the planet as it slowly begins the road to transformation. The second stage will be the construction of a large sheild encasement, much like a bubble to protect the planet from the suns harmful rays, a much smaller version of this is currently protecting the colony. The third and last stage will take place after the sheild is built, 12 large atmosphere compounds will spew a air-like mix, with a mixture of oxygen, nitrogen, and many of the other elements found it the air on earth. At the same time, trees and plants will be build in massive 800 kilometer fields, to help convert the Carbon Dioxide in the air, into more breatheable air, therefore establishing a air cycle. During all this, water will be imported and placed in small bodies around the planet, and with the help of atmosphere control, will also establish a water cycle. After several decades, the soil should be rich enough, with the help of fertilizers, to allow the feilds to spread across the planet. Eventually, after a very long time, Mercury will begin to look like earth
The whole constrcution process is expected to last 20 years, and about 200 years for the entire process to be complete, and is estimated to cosy upwards of 200 billion dollars in total, but is hopefull that future advances will shorten this number.
