Secret Project finally unveiled
For several decades, we have been gathering materials and a sizable workforce in an empty region of space, near the planet of Jupiter in the Sol system. We began construction on a vast object....it is now complete.
Altaran is ready to reveal to the world what this is all in aid of.
We have constructed a shipyard. No ordinary shipyard....this will be capable of building huge vessels for the space fleet. The shipyard is around 35km in length, and a further 3.5km deep. Plans also exist for several satellite stations, that will allow for even larger ships to be constructed.
The first project that the shipyard will undertake is the construction of the fleet's first General Systems Vehicle - needless to say, this will require significant investment, and cutbacks in Altaran's Earth-based military will ensue, allowing more of the budget that was reserved for maintenance costs to be diverted to the project.
The ship is expected to take several decades to complete....but once it is finished, it will be the pride of our ever-expanding fleet.

We have...other...commitments and will not be able to assist. Our priority is the completion of this ship, then we have other things that need to be done....

Bayorta is impressed at its fellow nations achievement. Seeing as we have yet to send a man into space our telemetric systems from one of our many satelites picked it up ;)
(I am modern/near future tech and my space program is in the same posistion as the Chinese except with a lot more funding.)

Thank you for your advice, but we do not need fighters. We make use of ROUs and LOUs (gunboats) for manueverable defence of larger ships. The latest ROU can outpace many a standard fighter (obviously they cost more than the smaller fighters, but they also make use of fast-tracking subsystems and heavier weaponry).

If any REALISTIC threat is posed to this project, then we'll quite happily annex you.
They could not shoot it from earth, since it would take many hours to reach the station, and the station would have moved hundreds of thousands of miles by then.
Also, how do you know the station isn't currently facing the other side of the Earth? Your shot could be sent straight down into your own nation.
