And the Children Shall Lead Them From Darkness(OpenAction RP

OOC- This is a standard, small group attempting to survive until help arrives scenario. I’m hoping someone will take the role of the attackers, they can either be guerrilla’s or a legitimate government, if they’re guerrilla’s someone can play the legitimate government, or vice-versa. Other nations can also mount rescue operations.

Captain Michael Blackthorn finished bringing the large passenger liner to cruising altitude and hit the autopilot before unbelting and heading back towards the plane’s small kitchen. He clapped a hand on the back of the seat of his co-pilot, John Myers. “Want me to grab you anything while I’m back there?”
“Sure, how about a ham sandwich and a soda?”
“No problem.”
As Michael walked back through the plane he reflected that it had been a quiet trip so far, which was surprising since a full half of his 500 passengers were either high-school students coming back from a school sponsored foreign trip or their chaperones; with the rest the usual mix of travelers. One glance down the aisle before he stepped into the kitchen showed him why it was so quiet. Every last one of the children was fast asleep, worn out from the trip. One of the few chaperones that were still awake gave him a friendly wave indicating that all was well. As he entered the kitchen, he was about to as the steward there for the food when the plane suddenly gave a sudden jerk and nosed down. Somehow managing to stay on his feet, he more fell than ran towards the cockpit.
As he enter the cockpit and gained his chair he could see that an entire panel that should have been dark lit up like a Christmas tree and his co-pilot simultaneously wrenching the plane through maneuvers no passenger plane should ever have had to attempt and yelling into his radio. “repeat, we are under attack, requesting immediate assistance from anyone out there. This is Grimdalian Civilian Flight 698 to anyone, I repeat we are under attack by hostile aircraft and request immediate assistance.”

Taking a quick glance at the air warning panel left over from the plane’s days as a military transport, Michael saw that at least three unknown jets had targeted the defenseless passenger plane. Just as he got his belt buckled, a loud explosion shook the plane. Looking out his window, he saw that half of the port wing was in flames. As he and John began to try to wrestle, the fatally wounded plane down to a crash landing Michael flipped his radio to the intercom. “Attention all passengers, we are under attack and I am declaring an inflight emergency, belt in and prepare for a crash landing.” He then switched it over to a general broadcasting frequency. “This is Grimdalian Civilian Flight 698, we have taken damage and are preparing for a crash landing, if any Grimdalian forces can hear this we need assistance, we have over 200 children on board, if you can hear this, for God’s sake send help.”

“Attention Flight 698 this is the USGS carrier Night Hawk, we have you located and are dispatching rescue forces.”
Then there wasn’t time for him to pay any more attention to the radio as the ground was rushing up, they had manage to steer for a small jungle clearing and the plane hit the ground with a tremendous crash, it took all the old combat skills of both of them to prevent the plane from completely breaking up, skidding it rolled twice, ripping off both wings and extinguishing the fire, before coming to rest against the trees at the jungle’s edge. Michael didn’t really remember getting out of the plane, but he suddenly found himself well away from the plane and facing a mixed group of passengers and crew. Miraculously it seemed everyone had gotten out, though Michael noticed that several people’s legs or arms were at awkward angles indicating broken bones.

Several of the passengers were wearing uniforms indicating they were active military personnel coming back from leave. One wearing the insignia of a Lieutenant stepped forward. “I’m Lieutenant William Baker, what happened pilot?”
Michael shook his head, “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask my co-pilot, I wasn’t in the cockpit when this whole mess started.”
The Lieutenant turned to look at John. “Well, what happened?”
“A trio of jets of unknown origin obtained target lock on the plane and launched a missile, they gave no warning and at no time transmitted any message. I managed to evade the first missile but the next one hit the wing and forced us to crash. Just before crashing we received a message from the carrier Night Hawk that they had us located and were sending assistance.”
“Very well, in that case I am operating under the assumption that we are in hostile territory and need to evade capture until such time a rescue can be mounted. Who here has had previous service in the groundforces?” The Lieutenant hadn’t bothered to ask who’d had military service, if they were from Grimdale they’d all had military service.”
Most of the adults raised their hands. William looked over the assembled group, all the adults had at least a sidearm and most of them carried an assault rifle in accordance with Grimdalian law, even most of the students had either a rifle or handgun. It appeared that the practice of teaching basic combat skills to children from an early age would be put to the test before the day was over.
“OK, each of my men will take ten of you, from now on they are your platoon leaders, understand.” It wasn’t a question. “Now form up into groups of twelve and meet with your leaders.” He looked over at a couple of sergeants, Matt, Fin, get back to that plane and pull the emergency kit from it.
“Yes sir.” They both replied.

A few minutes later, they came back with a very large rolling chest. The plane’s emergency kit held enough concentrated combat rations to feed the group for several days and spare clips of ammunition as well as a pair of grenade launchers. The food, water canteens, and ammunition were quickly divided up amongst the group. Generations of military training showing in the way the groups quickly form up. It had been decided the chaperones and the crew would stay with the students should something happen, with Captain Michael in charge. The rest would act as the main fighting force when the group was attacked by whoever had shot down the plane. Any thoughts that they wouldn’t be attacked until help arrived was banished as one side of the jungle clearing erupted in gunfire. It was clear that there were several hundred attackers at the very least.
“Captain, get the kids out of here! We’ll hold them as long as we can!” The Lieutenant yelled as he quickly organized the defense of the clearing.

With Captain Michael in the lead the mixed group of students, chaperones, and crewmembers headed for the relative safety of the jungle. As the sounds of gunfire and explosions grew dim behind them in the distance, he could only spare a moment to reflect on the chances of any of those left behind surviving.

Elsewhere in the world forces were mobilizing in response to the desperate radio call for help.

F-28 Raptors from the carrier Night Hawk arrive over the scene of the crash, but are forced to radio back that all they can find are a large number of bodies, many in an unidentified uniform. But there is no sign of the children. Face frozen in fury the captain of the Night Hawk radios back to headquarters. Within an hour the better part of a division is preparing to airlift in. Special Operations teams were soon heading for airdrops within the jungle. Grimdale's children were in danger, and those who had threatend them would soon know the full fury of the country.

The FCN Defiant, the flagship of the FC fleets, cruised calmly through the waters off off Grimdale. Things on the flightdeck were normal. Some idiot had jammed a sweet raper in the 3rd Catapult, and they had only just found out as an EA-60 was about to take off.

The carrier was state of tha art, one of the finest pieces of technology in the modern world. FC truly was a leadr in AC technology, thought the captain.

"Does that mean we can shoot 'em down?"

"I think so, sir. The plane was full of kids."

"DAMN THEM!!! Kids!!! Defenceless plane!!?? Cowards. Get several planes on the flight deck, and make sure they shoot down the attackers."

"Yes, sir. They crashed in the jungle inland, sir."

"Get the USDT Team in there, on helo's arm 'em to the teeth."

"Roger, will ask permission to send in task force."

"Grimdale better let us. If he does, move fleet in their waters, over."

OOC- Just a note, this isn't taking place over Grimdale, it's taking place over some other country who has yet to step forward. Most likely a third world nation of sorts.

The Trio of jets from before, 3 Unmarked Su-37-1820 RaysiAero E-Types came around again, popping up seemingly out of nowhere, and targetted the F-28s that were already in the area, targetting Quick-maneuver missiles on them and firing without warning.

Unbeknownst to anyone other than the unidentified forces, 12 more E-Types (An advanced VTOL-Capable jet) were scattered and hidden around the forest near the crash site, maybe over the surrounding 3 or 4 km radius.

As such, we offer our special forces teams (it's no secret that there's always at least one Jedi in every team) to help look for the the children. Anyway, I think I'll jump in (looking to get into the RP scene more, I don't do many so bear with me :( )

IC: The Remiesian navy's destroyers frequently cruise the world's seas keeping an eye on things - usually there isn't much to report but today the CIC of the RNS Page was alive with radio traffic about the shootdown.

"Sir," one of the operators said to an officer, "there's no two ways about it - somebody blew this plane out of the sky."

The officer, features taking on an even more furious look in the dim red lights of the room, nodded his understanding. "I'll run this up to the captain."

Sure enough, the captain of the Page was sitting in his chair on the sparsely populated bridge of the Arleigh-Burke class destroyer, looking out the large windows into the gloomy night, feeling the gentle rise and fall of the ship beneath him.

The Comms officer handed the thin sheet of paper over worldlessly and the captain scanned the radio synopses, his face sagging as he made his way down the page.

"Send this along to Malden (the capital)," was all he needed to say. The paper fell from his hand and the Comms officer silently departed the bridge, leaving the Captain to turn this event over and over in his mind, much to the consternation of the thin bridge watch.

OOC: We'll probably deploy troops based on how the other SF ops work out.

2 Su-37 Raysia Specials move into the air, effortlessly, and begin scanning for targets, They find 3 unID'ed fighters, and decide to engage. After all, there is nothing else that could have shot down the plane.

Meanwhile, far below, the USDT team of 6 with air cover in the name of 2 KA-60's, 3 helo gunships and 2 MAH-6's move in, looking for the down plane.

It didn't take long for word from Malden to get back to the Page, necessitating the comms officer to make another trip into the bridge.

"Sir," he said, "Malden is diverting the Avenger assault group to our location - they estimate 12 hours' sailing time (small amphib group on maneuvers)."

"Good," the captain grunted without tearing his gaze from the sea around him. "Get the Seahawk spooled up and tell Lieutenant Franklin to pick 6 marksmen - I want that bird to check out the crash site."

"Yessir," the comms officer said, racing back down below.

Meanwhile, radar operators watched as the air battle unfolded, far out of range of the Page's SM-2 SAMs.

The Aerial Armada of the USDT team closes on the crash site, loaded to the gills with fire power. The 2 MAH-6 Gunships fly over the crowd, firing rockets and raining minigun fire on the advancing hoard.

IC- The children watched in horror as Captain Michael's head exploded under the impact of a bullet. Only three adults were now left, two of whom were wounded, and they were needed to watch after the younger children. Patrick O'Conner stepped into the breach, a year from graduating, he was one of the oldest remain children. His father a retired General, he'd constantly been one to push the limits of endurance, always working harder, faster and better than those around him. And unlike the rest of the children, he already faced combat in the last invasion of Grimdale whe his evacuation convoy had been ambushed. He lead a counter attack that routed the enemy for the moment and then took the lead, forcing the group on even harder than before. They were only children, but they were children of Grimdale, and therefore some of the most dangerous people on the planet. They would get home or die trying. And if they failed, there would be many of the enemy who would join them in death.
24-10-2003, 22:17
Both Stingers float by the MAH-6's, which are moving too fast for a hit. They duck out of cover. Miniguns mounted on the sides of the helicopters blaze like hell at the guys on the ground, and the USDT team take cover. One has his shoulder blown off, before being dragged to safety.

The 2 Machine Gunners in the team set up on bipods, and lay down covering fire. The riflemen with grenade launchers smash off grenades and single shots. The 2 snipers pick off targets, from their Riflers mounted on bipods. They aim at enemy snipers first, before moving on to other targets.

An MAH-6 sweeps overhead, and rains lead on the troops, before buzzing off.

The three special forces choppers noticed the gunships under small arms fire, and quickly deploy the 20 soldiers, 9 ninjas and Jedi-in-training (Mike Horgan). They they joined the gunships, firing rockets and machine gun bullets at the enemy.
The spec/ops had to reach the kids and help defend them before it was too late.

The ninjas were fastest, flitting from tree to tree and picking off enemy soldiers with shuriken and quick bursts from their M-16s. Mike lead the platoon and reached the kids in a few minutes. He noticed the oldest kid giving orders to the others and remarked silently on his courage. He helped vaporize oncoming bullets with his green blade before they could reach him. The soldiers, under the command of a sergeant major, fanned out and let loose grenades and a hail of bullets upon the guerllas(sp). post losses.

Can we slash the laser, or I will have to leave.
24-10-2003, 23:35
The Special Ops team whirled as one at the sound of approaching marchers. What they saw appear out of the jungle was a band of children, carrying wounded adults and other children on makeshift stretchers. They were dirty, and exausted, but far from beaten. The marched in good order, most carried weapons either taken from the fallen adults or the enemy dead. Even the hardened soldiers blanched though when they saw that several of the children had scalps hanging from their belts. The largest of the children walked up to the soldiers and sketched a tired salute. "Patrick O'Conner reporting with 120 effectives and 30 wounded. We have been in constant contact with the enemy for five days. There are no other surivors sir." The look in his face and the face of the other children would have been enought to send death himself running for cover.

Looking at the group the Commander could only stare for a moment, struck dumb with the knowledge that over 300 were dead, many of them children, but more than that was the fact the children themselves had been the ones to fight their way out when the adults had fallen.

He turned to his sergent. "Radio for an evac immediately. And then get ready to move out, we're going to find the bastards responsible for this, this, outrage."

"Yes sir!"

As he watched the sergent radio in the information he thought of a stanza from an old poem.

They shall walk through fire, flame and smoke.
The heavens themselves shall rage at them.
Even the strongest of men will fall.
And it shall be up to the children to lead them from the darkness.

OOC- Just in case anyone was interested, here's the whole thing. It's just a little something I've been working on.

The Children Shall Lead Them From the Darkness

In time of war blood runs freely and the sky darkens.
The old men who rule from behind shall send the peoples to war.
Weapons will take their toll in blood and life.
Hatred will run freely and none shall be spared.

All shall be put to the fire and sword.
Cities will crumble beneath the blows of battle.
The spirits of the dead themselves shall rise up and fight.
And always some will flee to try and start again.

They shall walk through fire, flame and smoke.
The heavens themselves shall rage at them.
Even the strongest of men will fall.
And the children shall lead them from the darkness.
