The Trojan Empire
20-10-2003, 23:41
Let's just say this:

Trojan children go to school 300 days per year, eight hours per day. They have a fifty day summer vacation, seven day spring break vacation, and two days off for national holidays, and six days off for teacher's in services.

Most Trojans are taught one grade level ahead of the one they're at [worldwide average].

Pilon
20-10-2003, 23:51
We don't send our children to school. At age 5 they are given a node, which is installed in their brain and links them to the sum of Pilon's knowledge. We then encourage our youth to go out and experiance the world and learn new things, and above all else master the art of interfacing with and accessing the knowledge of the node called the Nodelink

All students take a test at the begining of each year. Depending on how they do they get put in level 1-5 of the grade. In these respective classes they learn at the pace assinged for that level. This way a student won't be held back by the rest of class.

Omz222
20-10-2003, 23:54
Introduction:

The Omzian Education system is a complex system, made up of 3 parts: Elementary (Ages 5-11), Intermediate (Ages 12-14), and Advanced (Ages 14-16). College is unrequired, although 95.2% of Omzian students goes to college or university.

In a typical Omzian school, there are Math Levels 1-13, Omzian Language Levels 1-8, English Levels 1-5, Science and Chemistry Levels 1-7, History Levels 1-8, Fine Arts Levels 1-4 (Art, Music, Drama), and Physical Education 1-13 (Gym, sports, basic military exercises --- long running, body fitness, basic martial arts). There are also the Omzian Socialism Ideology Education, which educates children about the Omzian government, law system, and other things related. Other classes include CAPP (Mandatory Personal Education), which educates children about how to plan their day, how to deal with strangers, etc. and sex and safety education.

The Banatolian education system runs as follows:

Pre-school (Ages approx 4-5):
Students are not required to formally "learn" anything. Rather, the focus is on a development of basic social interactive skills.

Primary School (Ages 5/6-12):
At this stage, students are taught a progressively-building curriculum. All students learn English, mathematics, science, music, social sciences and Banatolian. Most schools also offer studies in art as well. Certain schools, the "gyumnastikan", cater to more advanced students and give instruction in another foreign language (typically German or Russian) and computer studies in addition to the standard curriculum. Physical Education is also taught across the board.

Secondary School (Ages 13-19):
Students begin to experience more freedom in their subject areas from about this point. English, mathematics, science, Banatolian and social sciences remain compulsory until the student has achieved "Halvesgeschluss" - a pass-mark in an external examination at the end of the third-last year of schooling. Again, foreign languages, computer studies and art are available as electives - as are such wide-ranging fields as economics, history, geography, legal education and political education.

Following graduation from Secondary School, most Banatolians undertake some form of tertiary instruction as well as military service.

NOTE: Many subjects, particularly at the higher Secondary years, are undergoing a re-evaluation following the collapse of the Teodorescu state-socialist regime. While the subjects themselves are not expected to change, the emphasis will naturally do so.
Wazzu
21-10-2003, 06:53
School in Wazzu is 10 hours long (as long as workdays of individuals) but includes plenty of play time (seen as vital to child development). It also takes place 6 days a week, and with only a month off spread out over each year.

Teachers in Wazzu are mostly technical experts, focusing on an area of specialty. These areas all have to do with a certain area of psychology in a certain development level. Example: A teacher may have a technical education in motor skills level 7. These technical experts are mostly ignorent in areas outside their specialty, but much better then the average teaching-degree graduate inside their specialty.

The level system is used in Wazzu rather then grades. Students have several areas in which they have a level score. These areas include (but are not limited to) physical agility/dexterity, emotional health, memory, and several intelligence areas. Students must test their way up to higher levels in each area. Since students are not held back in all areas for failing one, or sent ahead in one failed area where they did well in all others, they are always learing at the optimal level.

Students are tested weekly to track their progress in each level area, and may test to get to a higher level each month. Average progression is 1 level in each area every six months. However, students are not average and tend to accel in different areas, some progressing in one or two areas every 2 months (or shorter), but other areas only after a year's worth of hard work.

Young, first-time students start in level 1 of the following areas:
1: Physical Coordination
2: Emotional Development
3: Memory
4: Problem Solving

After level 4, these areas diverge (each of the following start at level 5).

Physical coordination diverges into coordination, agility/dexterity, short strength, endurance strength, and physical hygene.

Emotional development diverges into social behavior, stress, self-control, and a dozen other areas. Students concentrate work on problem areas.

Memory and problem solving both diverge into literature, mathematics, hard sciences, social sciences, and several other areas. Students work only on those areas they are the best and worst at, leaving middle areas for study later (except for one area of choice).

Levels go as high as 40, and students stay in school until their 18th birthday. A week (usually of partying) after that birthday, they are enlisted in manditory military service for 30 months.

The first 6 months are made up of military training. Much of what you would find durring "boot camp" and later "special training" in forign nations is what is found here. Recruits are taught teamwork, communication, leadership, and other real-world usefull skills. They are also taught how to use small-arms and the basics of urban warfare (Wazzu being a city-state).

The next 4-6 months include classroom technical training in a field of their choice (chosen from a list generated by their aptitude/level score gained as a child). These include areas in mechanics, life sciences, languages, and even teaching (the future experts who start this entire process).

The last 18-20 months is field-experiance time. Enlistees (no longer recruits) go out into their field to gain real-world working knowledge. So engineers help build public works projects (which do exist in Wazzu to one degree or another), student teach, research medicines or materials, and get involved in many other projects. There are a few (7-12) weeks of re-enforcement combat training durring these last months.

All these enlistees ultimately work under qualified experts in their fields, though the low-end of the rank structure is filled by leaders picked in the first 10-12 months (and a few who appear later). It is these junior leaders who tend to get management level positions later in life.

After their two and a half years of military service, the enlistees are set free as graduates of the Wazzu educational program. Most get hired very quickly in Wazzu industry...sometimes elsewhere. Those of exceptional skill (management or otherwise) will get college scolarships from their corporations to continue their education. Many others will save money over the next 5-10 years to afford an education in Wazzu or abroad. Most never get a college education, but continue technical education throughout their lifetimes.

A small percentage (1%) go on to join the Wazzu military either full time (0.5%) or part time (0.5%). Part-time workers literally work part time, 30 hours a week (typically support jobs with some combat training mixed in) in the service, and part-time in the industry (hours varrying from 10-40 hours a week...keep in mind the average 10 hour work day and 6 day work week of Wazzu). Full-time soldiers end up as officers, special forces, and in other high-education military jobs.

Overall, why this unique and complex system?

By the time of their manditory service (age 18), Wazzu students already have college equivalent basic classes. By the end of their service, they have a specialized technical education AND field experiance.

Wazzuians are some of the best educated and hardest working people in the world. That means production efficiency for the corporations that control the nation.
West Palm Beach
21-10-2003, 07:13
The children of West Palm Beach are taught in Private Schools with variable educational styles and techniques. Due to the lack of governmental control on anything, there are no requirements for what a child must learn, instead it is up to the individual schools and teachers to come up with an appropriate curriculum.

As would be expected, this has lead to the rich gaining a substantial education, while those born poor continue to live in squallor.

Occasionaly, the luckyer and sometimes brighter members of the poor are selected to be tutored by private schools through charity donations and rich patrons.

Ravenspire
21-10-2003, 07:29
Education is a right in Ravenspire. Any citizen may enroll in any public academy at any time when a class of interest is offered, free of charge. Private institutions, which charge tuition, also exist, of course, and often possess significant unique resources, but the public education system in Ravenspire is rated among the top 1%.

Students are not categorized by age; a beginner takes an introductory course in the subject, whether he is six or 600. Students can select a pace of learning that suits them -- there are several levels of slowed and accelerated courses available, and classes may run on a standard daily schedule, at night, on weekends for several hours at a time, and so forth. There are classes that meet via virtual reality, classes by mail, classes by video, and an expansive network of libraries. The scheduling of classes is the student's responsibility, though most academies -- all public academies, certainly -- provide advisors to aid with the process.

Minors are expected to attend classes beginning at no later than the age of 6 human-equivalent years. The age of majority is 16 human-equivalent years, though majority status may be granted at a younger age if an individual proves the ability to support himself. Minors may be exempted from this requirement at the request of parents or guardians, for purposes of home-schooling, religious beliefs, or what have you. However, before the age of 16, all citizens are required to learn the principles of Ravenspire's system of law, especially as it relates to the rights and freedoms to which all citizens are entitled and the responsibilities which all citizens bear.

It is possible to study and obtain certification and/or academic degrees in almost any subject in Ravenspire, from Underwater Basket Weaving to Temporospatial Engineering.

In addition to recieving the education, every school has laptops which are issued to students at the beginning of the year. The laptops are integrated into the school network.

Also are required ID cards which must be slid through a door to gain access. Thanks to this there is no truancy, vandalisim, cutting of classes, or smoking/getting high/drinking in school. A computer keeps track of all of this and anyone who breaks rules will be caught.
