What kind of nation are you

We always wonder before we declare war so, heres where you can list your tech level.

I'm a space-based nation.

space, though capable of RPing with modern nations should they be willing. I don't belive in Ortilary or kinetic missiles, though I'll use them should a conflict escalate to nuclear weaponry.

The Dominion is a Modern nation, if a bit Tom Clancy-ish in its technology. Modern to near future.

The odd thing is that my nation is fantasy, medieval, modern, and future. As different parts of my nation has different technologies and capabilities.
20-10-2003, 15:49
Fantasy-based, medieval-style government (feudalistic), but have recently undergone a scientific renaisance since purchasing space-tech from Lost Colonies. We are currently building up our space fleet - will post a thread of our fleet at some point.

I'm modern, and I'm thinking about getting ortillery. It's not like it's a decade or two in the future, anyway...

Im from the era of now, it seems more fun and exciting as you can base events on R/L
Crookfur

Crookfur is a modern/tomorrow nation.

If defence spending had benn maintian at early 1980s levels we likely would have had orbital artillery weapons by now (although we might not realise it as they would be the descendents of the star wars Anti missile weapons but it is rather ovious that if your laser can blow up a an ICBM as it leaves the silo then it can melt tanks fairly easily...).

Near Future technology… I use Gauss Rifles for all of my men and I have some hover technology, though I still use normal tanks, planes and ships with slightly upgraded systems.

I have a space fleet which will probably be upped should some über space nation try and RP with me, because I don’t like people from the future getting involved with people from the past and using their technology to claim they are superior (despite the fact they are smaller then them).

We are a modern nation, this is cos I'm a writer and journalist (and I know my spelling is appalling by the way before anyone says anything) and I'm here to have fun and to keep an eye on world opinion.

Hard-modern. If it isn*t in production or able to be reasonably produced right now, it doesn*t exist, IMNSHO. :? If it*s on the drawing boards or *could work with an advancement here or there*, ie ETC, it isn*t real. Also, we interact with so-called non-humans, but consider them to be simply weirdos along the lines of hard core trek fans wearing costumes and speaking Klingon or whatever ConLang they like....

Edited for an explanation.

My nation is space tech through and through, but we do have much modern technology left over from the transition so we can RP modern if we wanted to.

I'm sorta mixed...my military is modern tech, but civiallian craft and architexure are space tech(ex: hover cars). we don't have space ships though.

We are post-modern(10-20+). People should disinguish between post-modern and hard-modern more often.....

Our chief economic activity is space to ground trading. We have upwards of 30 spaceports in our region, and have a small monopoly in trading exotic space cargo to ground nations and shipping mundane supplies to space colonies. Our space influence is very little, considering, but we have an inexpensive shuttle fleet we use for customs work.

We took the route of finalizing modern technology rather than jumping to incomplete future tech, with the exception being a jump into plasma weapons(which we make primitive but reliable versions of). Our conventional weapons are all still conventional technology, but perfected, ie our assault rifle; instead of going to caseless, we made a rifle capable of firing almost any existing ammo, because we can't afford to have ammo shortages slowing down our progress. Our plasma weapons are limited to being single-shot cannons that are very powerful, we usually mount them on aircraft, and we have no interest in designing man-portable versions at the moment.

Our political system is feudalism, mixed with some motions of democracy.

Our Navy is space based, but our army is just a little bit more advanced than a standard army (well, things like the Ellosär invisibility cloaking devices and the Falcon gravs tanks are a little advanced, but the weapons still uses solid projectiles).

Calcednie is mostly hard modern...

to explain, its about AD 2000 for Calcednie right now. Technology that currently exists is fine. Technology within 5 years realistic development time, if it is not a modern priority, and if you nation has made a point of making it a priority, is likely acceptable. Note that this is unlikely to apply to any military tech as that is a priority in modern research. As a science grad student, with many scientist friends, i think i have a good grasp on what is currently possible, not to mention what is patently impossible, at least within our current frame of thought (ie, without major theoretic advance plus lots of work), though proof of concept is always good (see below)

So if you want to bring in a future tech into an RP with me, you'll have to justify why it is possible given the modern world. As time progresses, i'll probably allow some future tech, but certainly something as ludicrous as plasma or combat lasers won't be possible for 100+ NS years.

Well I'm a modern nation, but with things built to the forefront of modern tech, rather than the legacy systems most RL nations have atm.

Plus I've been in contact with sufficient future nations to have a bit of tech or too, but my nation is deliberately not pushing forwards into future-tech to avoid having to compete with the big hitters. We're deliberatey staying as a modern-tech nation in a future-tech environment... a bit 'backwards', but no threat to anyone.
